    You can actually see the moment Freya bewitched Mimir. After placing the grub/shrimp looking things in his mouth she very subtly places first her left, then her right hand over his mouth, and Mimir is subsequently restrained from speaking about Baldur's weakness as well as his relationship to Freya herself.

      Well, there's many reasons that could be. A part of me thinks the vengeance justification a red herring. And even if that is her goal, I wonder if she'd try to exact her revenge, or if at the last moment, she'd prove a better goddess than that. Keep in mind, while she's a goddess of war, she's also a goddess of peace and love. There's a lot of ways they could go with this. I'm interested to see how it'll be.

      Bruh Zeus was probably more powerful than Odin and Thor
      What are you talking about ?
      Kratos was only able to kill him when he was wielding the Blade of Olympus mixed with the power of hope, which is supposed to be the most powerful weapon in all of GoW lore.
      Zeus would probably be able to kill all 9 Valkyries and Freya at the same time without too much trouble.

    • @117blingbling
      @117blingbling 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Old man Kratos is probably going to Beat Freya and Thor's Ass without the Blade of Olympus in the next game.
      Back when Kratos was still in his prime with better weapons, he barely managed to win against Zeus.
      The only one who might give a challenge to Zeus would Be Odin, since apparently he is the most powerful of his kin in the nordic mythology.
      and still if Odin die without the need of a magic weapon that is as powerful as the Blade of Olympus that mean he would be weaker than Zeus.

    I really do love this storytelling because even though some of the stuff seems 'evil' or 'good', you get the feeling it's not always that. Freya is someone who was badly hurt, but she also made a lot of bad choices before this, and the main one she never really accepted as one that caused more pain than good, not until Boy's talk about what it might mean, to break a cycle that now could be reworked. Hopefully Freya does show up, and just as hopefully, she isn't like Athena.

      Oh I doubt very much she'll ever be like Athena, even if bent with rage, desirous of vengeance, and needing to be put down. Freya is not nearly as coldly manipulative as Athena. Speaking mythologically (even if GoW uses mythology loosely in some cases), they're very different women with very different personalities and qualities they govern over.
      Athena is a goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, strategy , mathematics, the arts, etc. You can see how such qualities could be bent and interpreted as Machiavellian. Freya, on the other hand (at least this interpretation of her that melds her and Frigga as the same woman) is a goddess of love, destiny, fertility, selflessness, motherhood, etc. The only commonality between Freya and Athena is that, in their respective mythologies, they're both goddesses of war. However, between the two, Freya is also the goddess of peace. You'll find tales of Athena doing awful things to people who slight her, even for petty slights, whereas tales of Freya/Frigga is often of her forgiving incredible wrongs.
      That's not to say she couldn't be a fight in the next game. It's important to remember GoW interprets this stuff loosely and it wouldn't be the first time the story twists the mythos of the gods a bit for dramatic effect. And also, Freya is not so perfect, even in her root mythology. Keep in mind she is a goddess of war and DOES war. It's not my intention to whitewash her. But she's also a lot more complex and capable of good I think than the Athena of Greek mythos. When Baldur is killed, though she mourns his death and tries vainly to save him even after death, she never seeks vengeance, despite having more than enough cause (against Loki, Hotor, Thokk, etc.). She's also one of the few gods that 'survive' Ragnarok.
      So, I could see her pursuing vengeance, but I also see her as one of the only gods that may abandon vengeance for a nobler goal, given time. The hint of her seeking her wings may be interpreted as her preparing to fight Kratos, or it may be a red herring. We'll see. I do have to say they spend a lot of time in this game making her a complex and sympathetic, even if flawed, character. I doubt they'll reduce her to just another boss encounter come Ragnarok, even if she is an antagonist.

    The last part about the stonemason's son is really intriguing.
    If i am corrected, the wall around Asgard in the original myth was commissioned about the same way under suggestion of Loki, and when Odin found out that the stonemason was indeed capable of building said wall Odin threatened Loki to do something to not suffer his wrath.
    So, Loki turned itself into a female horse and attracted the builder's horse so he could not finish the work on time.
    .... and Loki after consuming love with the horse gave birth to Thor's horse, Sleipnir.

    Aw man, I hope that Freya doesn't die. I mean she probably will, but that's gonna suck because I really like her character (maybe because there aren't that many LIVING female characters in the GOW series, but that's irrelevant.). She deserved better than a lot of the things that happened to her in this game, but now her story is going to end two ways:
    1. Kratos will kill her.
    2. Odin, the single most evil monster in the history of the franchise, will end her life and take one final victory over the tragic heroine.
    I hope I am wrong, but this is god of way, not Naruto, so the moment Freya swore vengeance in the name of her prick son, she sealed her fate. After hearing her story, I think she deserves better.

    I see a mutual truce happening between Kratos and Freya because maybe at the start of GoW5 Thor beats down Kratos and kidnaps Atreus and Freya happens to be watching then she tells him how does it feel to lose your own child, but they may end up teaming up and she ends up being his partner for the game to go against Odin and save Atreus, obviously the first step in the game is to get back her wings and fighting spirit so she can help you.

  • @angelenriquel371
    @angelenriquel371 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Once Freya has reclaimed her wings, it is possible that she will fulfill her promise to Kratos as she parades his lifeless body across the nine realms. Odin severed her wings because she is an actual threat and being once the all-powerful leader of the Vanir, it makes sense. Mimir also stated that he couldn’t think of a more formidable opponent than valkyries (in flesh). What would we conclude from that in regards to Freya as The True Queen of the Valkyries? I bet that Freya with her Wings would make Odin shit his pants.

Also just a noob to Norse mythology, thus on recognising small hints and nuance hints of Loki aspect is so perfectly put that it just builds and strengthens the story line. Nordic Mythology proved to be way complex than I thought. AC Valhalla depicted Odin( or Havi) as an honorable hero who fought with other Aesirs to fight against Jotun giants and Fenrir to prevent Ragnarok while here, I am seeing quite the opposite. Now, can someone tell me the real myth behind the Ragnarok.

    • @lokijack8624
      @lokijack8624 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The gods in Norse Mythology are all complex beings. They have both good and bad qualities. Valhalla (and possibly Folkvagnr) exists only for the gods to have an army for Ragnarök. In the myth, the Jötnar are beings of chaos, but they are also closely associated with nature. They also eat humans. In one of the poems Thor speaks with an elderly oarsman who is constantly taunting him and asking him where he was when certain wars happened. He answers only that he was fighting the Jötnar and admits that if it wasn't for him, they would have overrun Midgard.
      Some believe that Odin disguised himself as that ferryman. Speaking of Odin, he is the father of mankind, along with his brothers Vili and Vé (in some versions it was the god Hoenir who helped Odin and either Vili and Vé create humanity. Odin usually takes on the form of a wanderer and travels across Midgard, sharing or gaining wisdom, and helping heroes rise, like he did with Sigurd.
      Odin is obsessed with knowledge which led to him famously sacrificing his eye for wisdom and hanging himself for 9 days and 9 nights until he discovered the runes. He is shown to be generous with the knowledge he recieves. He shared the runes with mankind, as well as the mead of poetry (created from the blood of the god Kvasir) which he retreated by lying, and tricking the slaves of the Jötnar king, as well as the Jötnar king himself, as well as his brother and his daughter.
      He wants war, because he wants more Einherjar to enter Valhalla and thus support his massive army that exists only to fight in Ragnarök. He is very paranoid, which is shown in the myth where he orders the chaining of Fenrir by tricking him.
      Odin's obsession led him to learning Seidr magic after the Aesir-Vanir war, which was considered feminine magic, and required its wielder to "take on the role of a woman". This led Odin being banished from Asgard for a short while. Odin was no oath breaker, as he did not break his blood oath with Loki when the later killed Baldur and insulted the gods in the palace of Aegir. Instead, he transformed one of Loki's sons into a wolf that killed the other brother. The gods made a chain out of the brother's intestines, and they used it to chain Loki with, and placed a serpent above him that dripped poison in Loki's eyes. Loki's screams caused the earth to shake. It was only his wife Sygin who saved him from this torment for a short while, for she held a plate above the trickster's head, which she had to empty when it was filled. This was the only time when she allowed Loki to feel pain. This was obviously a worse fate than death.
      Also, my theory of why Odin allowed Loki to be counted amongst the Aesir, is because he wanted a scapegoat that can start wars, thus allowing more warriors to enter Valhalla. Also, Odin never eats, only feeds his ravens: Huginn and Muninn, and his Wolves: Geri and Freki. He requires only mead to survive (and possibly the apples of Idunn, in order to not age).

      next next game probably. I doubt the developer would cut it short and only do a two game series, they're definitely going to milk it, making the next game end boss being thor and the following game to be Odin.
      if Freya is supposed to die on Ragnarok, she would live to the third game. I can see her playing an Athena sort of role in the next game though.

    • @allen845
      @allen845 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +cyberwolfy37 I doubt very seriously she'd play an Athena-style role, even if she becomes an antagonist. It's just not her character, and Athena's goddess qualities are not the same as Freya's. It's easy to style Athena as a schemer; she's a goddess of strategy, wisdom, skill, etc. So making her the one orchestrating things behind the scenes in the previous games was easy.
      Freya (or Frigga since this interpretation of her assumes both Freya and Frigga are the same woman) on the other hand is a goddess of love, motherhood, fertility, etc. Even when you see her in this game, she's never manipulative. I imagine she'll be a lot more direct.
      If it's vengeance Freya wants, she's going to send people to do her bidding or whisper in the ear of gods to convince them to fight for her; she's going to confront Kratos herself. If that happens, it'd be a hell of a fight. Going by mythos, she's formidable to say the least. But I also wonder if she'd really do it, go on a hellbent quest for vengeance and exact it. While she may be a god of war, unlike Athena she's also a god of peace and love. I have to wonder if the time and development they spent with her in this game was to build her up as a potential enemy, only to have her be the one god capable enough to forgive in the end. Her getting her fighting spirit back may be a big red herring.
      Then again, who knows? Wouldn't be the first time the developers twisted the gods a bit for the sake of dramatic effect. I'm sure it'll be interesting.

      It's ironic that she's Goddess of motherhood while she's a horrible mother to begin with. And she should know better than that since Baldur's death is basically her own fault.

    Hold the fuck up
    If Freya/Frigg is attributed to a single goddess in this world, SHE KNEW KRATOS WOULD KILL BALDR! Frigg is capable of clairvoyance, and the entire reason Baldr received the blessings is because she was gripped by visions of her son's death at the hands of Loki. We also know that Loki disguises himself and sabotages Baldr's return from Hel by refusing to weep for him. Atreus showed Baldr compassion and mercy, but Kratos killed him. Is Atreus the god Loki and not the jötunn Loki, or is Kratos supplanting Loki's place in the mythology?

      Only if you regard Marvel. There's alot about how Marvel portrays Norse Mythology that's inaccurate. For instance, Hel (or Hela as Marvel calls her) isn't the daughter of Odin and sister to Loki and Thor. She's the daughter of Loki and a giantess and the sister of Jormungand and Fenrir. Also, Thor isn't blond, it's been stated that Thor's hair is supposed to be red. Loki was never adopted by Odin as a baby. Of course, there's stuff about how it's portrayed in this game that's also inaccurate, Like Freya being married to Odin or being queen of the Valkyries, but the game overall is more accurate than Marvel.

    • @azazel166
