All of the Darwin's Natural Selections raw recipes are free from hormones, antibiotics, grains, by-products, and meal.
Darwin's is only sold online, and it ships only to the United States. Each box is shipped with dry ice to keep the food frozen.
We purchased the introductory box which contained 10 pounds of raw food for $14.95. The box contained 5 packages that were 2 pounds each. We received 1 package of turkey, 2 packages of lamb, and 2 packages of chicken. Each package is divided into 4 individual pouches that hold 8 ounces of meat.
Darwin's is similar to a monthly subscription box. After the purchase of the introductory 10 pound box, a monthly recurring order of 20 pounds is automatically set up that can be cancelled at any time. It can also be customized to include whichever flavors you prefer. The timing can be also be changed to receive them more or less frequently. The current prices for each 2 pound package are: $11.38 for turkey, $17.38 for lamb, and $9.98 for chicken. So, depending on the varieties and quantities that you order, an average 20 pound order could cost around $120 to $160.

The reason we tried Darwin's is because we were looking for an alternative to Rad Cat, which went out of business. Darwin's is very similar to Rad Cat. Neither contain vegetable or fruit fillers, but Darwin's does contain the bones of the turkey and chicken necks, and Rad Cat was bone free. Rad Cat also contained better cuts of meat. However, Darwin's is similar enough to be a good alternative to Rad Cat. Most importantly, both cats loved the turkey and chicken recipes of Darwin's.

About Jericho & Thunder:
Jericho was born in 2007 and was adopted from the Humane Society on September 28, 2007, as an 8-week-old kitten. She is either a Korat or a Russian Blue.
Thunder was born in 2009 and was adopted from an animal rescue shelter on July 21, 2017, as an 8-year-old senior cat. He is a Maltese cat, which means he is a gray/blue cat whose breed is unknown. Thunder is FIV+ and in the early stages of kidney failure.

At the time this video was recorded I was unaware of the tremendous benefits of bones in a cat's diet. Our previous raw food didn't include the bones, but instead had added supplements to take the place of what bones do naturally. I appreciate that this food includes the bones.

Thank you so much! Yes, they are both doing well! Right now they continue to eat wet food in the morning, and then they eat raw food in the evening. This allows Thunder to continue his prescription wet food in the morning.
My vet is not being cooperative about giving Darwin's the prescription needed for the prescription formula of their raw food. Most vets are trained by the big name pet food companies and it's hard for them to wrap their minds around other options. I am still hoping to persuade her.
My work schedule has been so crazy that I have not had time to be as active on TH-cam that I used to be. As a result I decided to change the focus of my TH-cam channel so that I am primarily only doing videos that either review cat products, or videos that feature cat products (such as toys that they are playing with). I no longer have time to just post random videos of the cats being cats. I came very close several times in July, August, and September to completely deleting my entire TH-cam channel, but because I continued to receive so many positive comments about how helpful my review videos are that I finally decided in September to keep the channel going for that purpose.
I deleted over half of the random cat videos that weren't as good quality, and I continue to weed more of those out periodically, aiming only to keep the best of the non-product videos. My cats are enjoying that I am no longer constantly recording them. 🙂

I started feeding my cat raw and the first brand she tried was from Savage Cat. She initially ate kibble but introducing savage cat was the easiest transition and she found a liking to it right away. The 5lb bag or chicken only lasted her a week and a half and it was $77. I saw this review of Darwin’s so I decided to go ahead and order the introductory trial because it was so cheap and they deliver. It’s been 3 days since I’ve received Darwin’s raw food and my cat is having a hard time eating it so a lot of it goes to waste and it stinks more for some reason.
I normally leave out food at night to defrost in her auto-feeder so when she gets hungry she will have something to eat and she normally licks everything clean, almost as if it was a newly washed plate lol.
I did that the first night I received Darwin’s and she didn’t even touch it. I even tried topping it off with kibble treats she would go crazy over and she wouldn’t even finish an ounce of the meat.
I also noticed her fur isn’t as soft and her breath was starting to smell. Even when famished and i prepare her food, she would look at it and smell it and then walk away. Even her stool and pee began to smell but when she was eating Savage Cat, I wouldn’t even realize she’d gone to the bathroom!
Worried that my cat hasn’t been eating much the passed 3 days, I decided to get another 5lb tub of the Savage Cat chicken today and my cat licked the plate clean! I gave her more than what i normally give her and she ate all of it!!
Seems like there is also a quality difference where Savage Cat comes way above Darwin’s. I haven’t tried Rad Cat as I started feeding my cat raw after they went out of business, but if you’re looking for another commercially produced raw cat food brand, I definitely recommend Savage Cat. Although a lot pricier than other raw foods brands, it’s soooo worth it because their ingredients has everything your feline companions need to live without any veggie or fruit fillers, and ingredients that you can’t even pronounce or have ever heard of!

Great review! I was curious about Darwins. Nice to see how Thunder and Jericho liked it. Did you get the Kidney Support food for Thunder? The ingredients on that one look interesting with beneficial herbs and restricted phosphorus.

Yes, I recommend everyone who is willing to have their cats try raw food, to get the introductory box and see if their cats like it. Just be sure to cancel the subscription if you don't want to continue afterwards.

lol my fur baby didn't care for the lamb either lol. but he loves the turkey and chicken! i switched my kitty to a raw diet after my older kitty passed away 3 years ago due to kidney failure, but found out it was due to the type of dry/wet food i was giving him at the time(long store). so of course i started researching better diets for cats and choose Darwin's. Furbaby is a happy and healthy kitty!!!!

Bone is very important for calcium and phosphorus in your cats diet. I don’t like the fact that it has tomato pomace and synthetic vitamins. Definitely needs shoulder or thigh meat.

Interested in making the switch myself, but was wondering if you're still using Darwin's? Looking for a good brand, but I've been reading a lot of bad reviews about recalls, the FDA stepping in, hundreds of pets getting sick, food safety violations, etc.
Yes, we still use Darwin's and we haven't had any issues. My cats love the turkey and the chicken and gobble it up very quickly.
Oh really sweet ones. We have two grey cats too in the house which are brothers but dont like each other. So we had to isolate them. Now Pavel is living in the same house but in the household of my sister who is living above. Now we have peace again. However they are russian-blue and gets on with the other cats and dogs in the house. Our russian Vlasi and ragdoll mister Jankins as well as our sled dogs eats raw food too and like it.
What do you think about becoming friends we all would very happy about. 😄

Waren die Nierenwerte bei Thunder im roten Bereich? Haben sich die Werte verbessert? Bei unseren Tierarzt gibt es bloß eine Sorte Diätfutter. Die frisst meine Mausi nicht. Thunder wurde in letzter Zeit nicht getestet, daher weiß ich nicht, wie seine aktuellen Nierenwerte sind, aber als er das letzte Mal überprüft wurde, zeigte er, dass er sich im frühen Stadium des Nierenversagens befand. Ich weiß nicht, welche Marken von Lebensmitteln in Deutschland verkauft werden. Daher würde ich Ihnen empfehlen, mit den Lebensmitteln fortzufahren, die Ihr Tierarzt empfiehlt. Hoffentlich läuft alles gut für dein Kätzchen.

My cat ate some Darwin’s yesterday, about 1/3 of the serving. She then stopped eating and just sat there. I immediately knew something wasn’t right. Couple minutes later, she walked away and started vomitting. She didn’t touch food again until about noon, but wouldn’t even come close to Darwin’s, so I gave her Tiki Cat and he appetite returned and she’s fine. What could have cased her to vomit Darwin’s? I gave her raw beef pieces, raw salmon and shrimp, and chicken wing- and she never had a problem.
I'm sorry that you had that experience. I no longer use Darwin's simply because of the additional steps it took to ensure that it was properly thawed and that it didn't go bad.
@@JerichoAndFriends Well, Darwin’s ended my cat’s appetite for raw food. She won’t touch anything raw now. She used to eat shrimp, salmon and chicken and even raw beef pieces- won’t eat it after she got sick from Darwin’s. I’m so angry because now I don’t know who to transition her to raw. Do you have any recommendations? I’m just so frustrated because she loved raw food until she got sick from Darwin’s.

I stopped feeding raw food, so I don't have any specific recommendations, other than perhaps waiting awhile and then trying again with a different brand. I tried different brands of raw food, but ultimately returned to feeding my cats canned food because my cats preferred it and it was more convenient.

Great review. I know it’s been a year and you are no longer using this. I am in search of an affordable raw frozen option for my two senior cats (14 years) I am just starting their transition to a raw diet. I’ve been using Stella and Chewy’s frozen chicken so far, and they seem to like it. I’m just looking for something of equal nutrition at a better value for the price and weight. Shipping would be an added bonus. I was going to try this for the 10 lbs offer. Just wanted to see what you or anyone else suggest as the most affordable raw diet option. While still holding on to nutritional value of course. Thanks!

Did you decide on anything? I have a rescue, probably middle age, but he only has 2 tiny front teeth left. Grocery store wet food is getting scarce and I want something he can eat easier.
@@woodstream6137 I’ve stuck with Stella and chewy frozen raw for one cat..and Stella freeze dried raw (that I re-constitute in water ) for the other. (The coldness of the frozen upsets her stomach) Overall I’m very happy. Just had to find the cheapest place in my city for it. Turned out to be Pet Supplies Plus…which I believe is a national chain.

Are you still feeding Darwin's? If so what is your feeding schedule like for 2 cats and how much does it cost you to keep doing? I have 3 cats and would like to switch them but not sure on the cost. Also, do you let it get room temp before feeding them or do you serve it right out of the fridge?
I am no longer feeding them Darwin's. When I did I gave them a serving in the morning and one in the evening. Because cats rely on smell, I didn't give it to them straight out of the refrigerator while it was cold. Instead I warmed it up for 15 seconds in the microwave. This wasn't enough to cook it, but was enough to get the chill off and allow it to have more scent than it would have if it was straight from the fridge. I would then stir it well and divide it up between the 2 cats after I warmed it. I didn't want to bring it to room temperature on its own because I didn't want bacteria to grow on it. On the rare occasion that the cats didn't eat all of what I served them within 30 minutes I would discard the rest because of my concerns about bacteria. Each of the individual pouches would cover one day for my 2 cats. So I warmed half of the pouch in the morning and divided it between the 2 cats, and the other half in the evening.
I stopped using it because of cost. There weren't any health issues caused by it. As long as you follow the safe handling instructions and don't leave it out for longer than 30 minutes, there won't be any bacteria issues. It's very healthy.

What's wrong with bones? They need to eat bones for calcium. If they don't have bones they need to get calcium from egg shells or supplements.
You are absolutely correct. I wasn't aware of that at the time that I made this video. The previous raw food that the cats ate didn't include the bones, instead it had supplements added to take care of what the bones do naturally. I am thankful now to have a raw food with the bones included.

Why don't you like that it contains bones?
At the time that I made that video I didn't realize the benefits of having the bones included. The previous raw food that the cats ate and enjoyed was just the meat with nutrients added. Since that time I discovered that including the bones took care of the nutrients that were being artificially added in the other food.
