As a person who samples drums, you got the best sounding drums I've ever heard
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Here’s a sample pack I made that is dedicated solely to this kit: jakereedmusic.com/store/super-dead-drums-sample-pack

You know you're really into the dead drum sound when you have custom drum covers/mufflers for each drum in your kit!
Same!
I’m saving this video for “educational”purposes only! Naw, I’m bout to jam out with you! 😅😂
It’s like the 80s had to compensate for the lack of reverb in the 70’s.

It sounds so much like Teardown's soundtrack by Douglas Holmquist

This is exactly what drum ASMR would be like.
There was a guy who made an ASMR song using acoustic instruments (mostly percussion and shakers). I’ll try and find the name of the video, it’s very good.
Thanks!
Listen to snares played with brushes in stereo. That is legit through and through ASMR for me.
@@JakeReedmusic Post 30 minutes playing whatever you want with those 70's sound, I'll watch this ASMR all day! These drums sound really sexy and tasty for my ears.

@@SKATE87410 you heard the guy
What are you even talking about lmao
Kick drum has too much sub frequency, should hard cut anything below 30hz and leave that for the bass.
@@TampaSkwad imo.. 30hz and lower is Way too low for bass, even a low B0 fundimental from a 5 string is still just above that threshold, ur not gonna get any useful frequencies from there. in rock music typically anyways, the bass is actually highpassed a bit to leave the sub area for the kick drum, staying in just the bass area. (unless youre making say, dub lol)
That bass drum sounds like it has a whole mattress stuffed in it. I love it.
trying to play as quiet as possible so he doesn't wake the neighbors, because he was recording this at 4 am. very respectful dude.

I heard Strawberry 23 and it perfectly overlays this beat.

yes, almost like playing with pencils on a couch, pillow, mattress etc.
haha! That reminds me of a story an old studio dude here in LA told me. Back in the day when they were recording lots of disco (think of all the excesses that came with that) he was telling me that one time he was on a session where they were getting the "kick" drum sound by literally mic'ing an overstuffed leather chair and hitting it with a baseball bat. How's that for ingenuity? LOL
@@JakeReedmusic thanks for sharing that. as a kid playing with pencils, i never would have imagined using a baseball bat

HANGING OUT
DOWN THE STREET
that is probably some of the cleanest mixing i’ve heard on an acoustic drum set. I can’t hear any bleeding whatsoever, it’s amazing.
Thank you!
What’s bleeding?
@@jesse879 notes crossing over each other basically
@@rbw7556 Not quite.
Bleeding is when the audio from another instrument is coming into a spot mic.
See those two mics on the upper left? They're place over the Toms.
Ideally, each mic will only capture the sound of the Tom upon which they're set - but both mics are actually gonna capture a bit of the other Tom next to it. And a little bit of all the other drums in the kit - even cymbals.
The amount of sound from an off-axis source (ie a sound you DON'T intend to be the primary signal captured by a mic) is called bleed.
It won't be super loud in the recording, and there are methods audio engineers can use to minimize bleed. But yeah, this mixing is stellar.
You may not immediately appreciate it, but this is some VERY good work.

@@JakeReedmusic I just found it, I like the video.
This is one reason I prefer 70’s music. 80’s drums bounce off canyon walls and echo for a thousand years. These drums are so clean
I wish most '80s music didn't have such horrid drums.
Huge reverb on the snare drum in particular is absurdly corny.
@@TheMaineSurveyor The other day I searched up "Brother Louie," hoping I'd find the 1973 gold classic by Stories. Instead, I was greeted by an '80s song of the same name, by Modern Talking. I decided to give it a chance, as the millions of views had to be good for something. But oh man... just try and listen to the drums on that song. Maybe I've just been spoiled with the beautiful rhythms that define "that '70s sound." Nostalgia can be more blinding than the sun.
Has more to do with how drums are recorded. The sound of the 80s was born out of compression and noise gate. That's why it sounds unnatural.
@@michaelscott-joynt3215 It's hideously displeasing to the ears when you compare it to the silky smooth sound of '70s drums.
This feels like if acoustic was digital, it sounds oddly perfect.
