    This video came out 2years ago , I would like to say thank you for posting the build , I have this kit and it’s a tremendous help showing how you built the kit. It makes it so much easier to see it being built and to look for any problems with the fitting of the parts, I subscribed to your channel, 👀 looking forward to seeing future builds!!

      have you read 'Night Fighter'...C F Rawnsley (Radar operator, Cannon reloader) to John Cunningham flying a night fighter version of the Beaufighter. Some great recollection whilst flying this aeroplane...Even by later standards this was a very heavy armed and fearsome weapon...

    Good result, looks an enjoyable and (hopefully) not too fiddly build, thank you.
    Well, just finished mine in the same scheme, not a patch on yours, but a few new techniques attempted and some succeeded, others 'have room for improvement'... No real vices to the kit, excellent that you can make some parts in modular form, ie, the engines and undercarriage. Fit is brilliant, the undercarriage just clicked into place securely, with no need for cement. Purchased the 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito last week as a comparison, although it's someway down the build list. Only downside was that this pushed the limits of my spray booth causing some inventive improvisation.

    Even TAMIYA’s old kits are fantastic, detail may not be on point but that’s to be expected from an older kit, but the fit.. my lord, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy building models so much. A good build where everything fits and comes together nicely just makes you excited about the build! A kit that doesn’t go together nicely makes me frustrated and I don’t have a good time building it, and that’s what got me out the hobby when I first got into it a couple years back, BAD kits. But now that I’m back in and I know manufacturers and stuff, I’m really enjoying it. TAMIYA kits are by far my favourite, they’re for the average hobbyist like myself. If you’re looking for a tank to build I highly suggest tamiyas 1/35 KV-1, it’s a brilliant kit and the detail is there, fantastic kit. Thanks for the video! It was amazing to see someone building a model out of the box like it’s suppose to be and not a bunch of excess parts!

    • @GregsModels

      I don't have the actual ratios, a few drops at a time until it looks off black. One thing to bear in mind, the colour mix will dry lighter than what you see in the pot wet. Apply your mix on some scrap plastic, just to see what it dries like.

    • @GregsModels
      @GregsModels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Providing the part has no load bearing or is very tiny, no. But for large seams, the paint needs to be removed for a good bond. But sometimes I throw caution to the wind and ignore these rules👍

  • @allangarant3907

    HI Greg, nice kit and your detailing is quite nice. This kit looks very simple compared to the Revell that i have stated to build. Engine for the Revell was more detailed then the Tamiya and also the landing gears. i think i bit off more than i can chew with this kit, by the way it's the IF Nightfighter. I have the Tamiya Beaufighter TF.Mk.X which willbe the next build. Thanks for your video's and keep them coming.

  • @carmium
    @carmium 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Enjoyed that very much, but a question to toss out the ether: Why, when kits are so detailed and well-fitting these days, have crew figures not changed since the early days of plastic kits? Granted, these are better examples of the type (and beautifully painted!), but still with the staring-forward, arm along each leg in one lump design? Can a company like Tamiya not provide:
    1. A separate head that can be posed looking right or left.
    2. Two separate right arms, one waving, one reaching the yoke/stick.
    3. Two separate left arms, one on the throttle, one closing the canopy.
    - especially in 1/48 and up?

    Canadian viewer. You made a black finish come alive. Awesome. Quick question. I see you do not use a gloss coat before applying decals. I presume if you sand the surface of the paint, this smooths out the texture? I think silvering of decals is caused by a rough texture and not necessarily the sheen of the surface? Thanks.

    • @GregsModels

I've been researching this particular flight for a while now and was part of the group who petitioned Dartmoor National Parks into letting the families erect a memorial to the crew near the crash site, Fullamoor Farm near Grenofen in Devon. The family in NZ were never told much but through research the plane was fitted with the then top secret ASV radar. On the way home from an anti submarine sweep they encountered fuel problems and were diverted to RAF Harrowbeer near Plymouth on the way there the struck 2 barrage balloons and crashed near the air base. Damgaged from the second barrage impact, their wingtip then hit a tree and the plane spun round hit a hedge and came to a stop very near Fullamoor Farm House.
      I'm working with the Revell 1:48 B24D but it has the old fashioned raised panel lines and I'm trying to decide whether to keep them or recess them instead?

    Excellent modelling. Just about to embark on my own Tamiya Beaufighter, back dating it to a Mk 1 used for centimetric radar trials. What ratios of Tamiya flat black, royal blue and grey did you use and which grey?

      Sorry I don't have the ratios its all done by gut feel. The principle is just enough to knock the harshness of the black. With grey, you won't need much a few drops but the blue a little bit more. It's all about experimenting, remembering that the wet paint mix will dry a lot lighter.

    Built 2 of these in 404 squadron markings. The kit is definitely a nice looking bird when done, although I do feel it could have been better especially the engine details.
    Not yours, the kit itself. Your finished model looks great.

      I got mine from the local art shop; maybe Ebay under self-adhesive decorative stones.

    Do you know about how much of each color you used for the overcoat?
    Flat Black : Royal Blue : Gray?
    I know some people add red or hull red. Just so it doesn't look black black.

      It's just a few drops of each, remembering that what's mixed in the pot will dry lighter.

    Very nice build as usual Greg, and is it just me or does that pilot look like James May? those collector rings were works of art- nice one

      Modelling for Tamiya is one of May's side hustles.

    Why did the Beau have dihedral on the tailplane? Was it just about take off and landing speed?

      @GregsModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't tell you for why early Beaufighters had dihedrals before going straight.
