ICE-T and his entourage were doing a concert in North Carolina, with Dougie Fresh, KRS One, and Eric- B and Rakim. After the show, I stood in the parking lot and saw Rakim walking with his people... I said Peace God to him, and He stopped, and turned to me and greeted me with the mathematics on the spot... He took the time to build with me on degrees and I knew then that he's one of the nicest , realest brother's you'll ever wanna meet. Peace to you Rakim, and to the Breakfast Club. Great interview.

    I didnt grow up on hip hop. I grew up on gospel. So I heard his music unbiased with fresh ears. I was introduced to Paid in Full at 18 by my then girlfriend from New York nearly 20 years after it came out....and needless to say I BINGED his music. Still sounded fresh and novel to me then. This man needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap and preserved.
    51 years old...we all still get excited to see this man being interviewed over 30 years later on one of the biggest platforms in the world. This, kids, is longevity and music with substance and stay power.

      @subzero3639 The Bible teaches that God is holy, just, merciful, gracious, loving, and sole creator(Genesis 1:1, Psalm 24:1). The Bible also teaches that man is born with a dreadful sin nature(Psalm 51:5, Ephesians 2:3) and transgressed God's law(Romans 3:23). Since God is the righteous judge, He will punish sinners according to His eternal standard. According to God's word, that punishment is an eternal,physical, and conscious torment(Daniel 12:2,Matthew 25:41, Matthew 3:12, Revelations 14:10-11, Revelations 20:10) in Hell-separated forever from the goodness of God. The good news is that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ who is equally eternal(John 1:1) and equal in rank and importance(John 5:18, John 10:30) to the Father and the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin to be the means for escape from the domain of darkness and wrath of God for those who repent and believe the gospel. Jesus lived a sinless life and voluntarily and lovingly died on the cross by taking upon Himself our sin and the wrath of God that His elect deserve. Jesus was buried and resurrected(1 Corinthians 15:1-5) on the third day from the grave- demonstrating His power over sin and death and is seated at the right hand of the Father (Ephesians 1:20-23). Your good works or deeds of the Law are not sufficient. Jesus who is fully God and fully man is the complete and perfect sacrifice. It is not grace plus merit, faith plus works, or even Christ plus unrighteous man that will justify the sinner. As a vile wretch, you can be be justified(declared right before God) by only free grace alone, through faith alone and in Christ alone(Romans 3:28, Ephesians 2:8-9). Will you repent(a change of mind that results in the abandonment of sin and turning to the Lord Jesus Christ) and trust in this unchanging Gospel(Mark 1:15) or will you remain an enemy of God?

      He did shout out Killer Ben in Fort greene but i hear what you're saying. Dudes use street connections for street cred but he had so much respect that he left all that gangsta shit out... and was still the most hardcore rapper out. In that generation we didn't glorify bad activites we kept it hush cause we wanted our elders to respect us more than we wanted the youth to respect us

    • @seekingtruthonly.4299
      @seekingtruthonly.4299 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Gangstas don't really exist. Theres two types of people in the street. 1. There are guys who do things for money, but it's really not them. Their plan is to get paid and get out, but sometimes they get shot or locked up/caught up. Outside of getting caught up, they don't want their activities known. Sure they do things people consider gangster, but it's not really who they are. It'sa means to an end. And 2. Is guys who emulate the first group and mimic something that's not them, but they want to be "known" as gangstas. They are real flashy and trying to be seenas something they're not for a reputation. Neither is really a gangster, both will do things square people consider gangster and get labeled as something they're not, but they each have different motivations.

      Melle Mel who Rakim studied is the Pioneer of Lyrical rap. He invented the term emcees (not M.C.) also. Kool Moe Dee is also a pioneer of word play and flows, he invented super fast rhyming and thesaurus heavy words. Grandmaster Caz is a lyrical pioneer on the story telling, clever word play, humorous hard core style of rapping. They all had songs before 82 out. They all were rhyming in the 70s. Rakim is the extension of them and he admits that.

    The 80’s is often criminally overlooked when ranking lyricists. What the casual fan doesn’t know is that the Bigggies, Tupacs and Nas of the world were inspired by artists like Big Daddy Kane & Rakim. The late 80’s in particular after ‘86 had some nasty lyricists including KRS-One, Master P, Guru, Chuck D among others. I’m glad that I was able to experience that generation and see the culture evolve to what it is today
