We talking Strong Island man it crazy this album had such deep impact on the Westcoast. Im happy you guys are breaking this classic down this real hip-hop zone.
The way these emcees are breaking down the lyrics so meticulously is dope to see and hear. This is Hip Hop! Also, the audio and visuals of this Podcast is top notch. 🏆
It’s what we needed because no one ever breaks down the rhymes and it’s great that great lyricist especially someone like KING CROOK is breaking down the rhymes is fire
you could almost say Rakim helped birth the west coast sound as well. it was the first time we heard that slower melodic heavy bass sound wit the smooth delivery
The original release for Eric B Is President was release on 12” Vinyl 1986 with My Melody on it . The Album version is the Remix of Eric B Is President both versions are great, But check out the Original version if you yet haven’t it has the lyrics they took out . Rakim since a kid is top dog for me then Kool G rap and Kane in that order. Great job on this Podcast really enjoyed it ! Rest In Peace Rap the Puerto Rican Brother in back of the Paid In Full Album cover with all the Jewelry and Fila outfit.
Listening to Tray reminiscing about when Paid In Full was dropped gave me chills! I felt the same way; hip hop was something to listen to but I wasn't living it (from DC so gogo was my thing). I heard My Melody on the radio one Friday & it changed my life! Rakim's rhyme style & flow was so unique at that time it made all other MCs seem elementary!
Also, shouts to y'all for this ep and for the show in general. It's dope to see Great MC's be fans and pay homage to other Great MC's like this. One thing that always blows my mind about Rakim is from an old interview he did with Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on the old Juan Ep podcast. Rakim said he used to play the sax when he was younger, and when he started rhyming he wanted his rhymes to have melody like a sax. So, he'd hum out the flow to himself and then figure out the words that fit into it.
mane rakim and d.o.c tha 2 brothaz that influenced me 2 put my all into that pen, and still 2my favorites to this day… rakim was a fool on my melody mane “tha melody that i’m stylin’, smoov as a violin/ ruff enuff 2 break new york from long island” “tha rhyme is rugged @ tha same time sharp/ i can swang off anythang even tha strang of a harp” REAL jedi emcee wit dat thang mane✌🏿 kang.shit👑
I've always felt like Tray Deee had a Rakim influence in his flow structure and cadence. Rakim influenced most elite MCs if we being honest. The first cerebral lyricist, his compound rhyme structure was crazy. My Melody got entire sentences that rhyme
Seeing you all looking so well and so happy, while showing your deep love for this culture, makes this long-term fan of Long Beach's finest very happy too. All the best and congrats on a great series.
This interview felt good. Rakim has always been my favorite emcee since 87. Tray Deee, your verse on snoops downtown assassin is ridiculous. Crook, you killed pendulum swing. Salute legends!
❤🎤Amazing Tribute to the ..God.🎤.Emcee 🎤💙There is Pre Rakim & Post Rakim, just like Jordan, Tiger & Gretzgy....if you know you know. He came from a Musical and sports background, drum roll He didn't cuss in his Music. Love all you guys, Thank you for what your doing. I don't comment much, but this hit me at the right time. Crook if you happen to see this, thank you for all you do, it makes me proud. I was blessed to meet some of your blood in the midwest and shed a few deep tears during deep but beautiful conversation. I listen to 100s of content creators, no hate, but maybe 1 out of every 100 I listen to I might stay connected to one and share it with alot of artist that I know. Much Love to you, HSG and the rest of your family. Have a Great weekend...💙✌🏽❤️✌🏽
Cuhz yall killin that stupid hip hop music u can feel thru the screen I got instant juiced rappin with yall love yall (& u can get a smac to this The DYC Pod Ain’t No Joke!)
My uncle somehow got a dub tape of the album months prior to it being released. I remember being a 7/8 yr old listening to this before the radio station was playing in Oakland.
I would personally like to see yall discuss Eastsidaz albums or No Limit as a whole. Romeo miller, C Miller, Master P. Great episode and I never heard this album
The video for move the crowd was very prophetic. The recitation at the podium as a professional leader, as well as a military general in a political convention type setting. Deep Please review Nate Dogg's first album G Funk classics.
I stumbled across y'all a week or 2 ago. The first ep I was was the Outkast joint. I'd love to see y'all do more of their albums, and some other classics like Illmatic, Ready To Die, Section 80, Doggy Style, etc. over time.
Great content as usual! Y’all reciting the bars got my hype like when I first heard the song in 86-87. I would like yall to review: Goodie Mob- Soul Food Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Black Moon - Enta Da Stage The Roots - Do You Want More???? Twista- Adrenaline Rush Devin - The Dude Souls of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity E-40 - In A Major Way
My mom is dead and gone now, but long before she died and was in her fullest of health and mind you,she never listened to rap music and l spit I ain’t no joke to her and when I was done, She said to me; Sammy, you can make some money because you sound just like those guys singing that new music that they are playing on the radio. PEACE TO RAKIM! .

Dope episode. Can't wait until they breakdown Duces and Trays the Old Fashion Way. Tray Deee's verse on Cool is legendary.
