Man, this film didn't just made me see a titan fight but also made me feel it. The sounds and the close-ups fit perfectly not only with the giants, but also how they interact with the environment. The crashing against the buildings, the stomping on the cracking cement roads, the sound of the waves, it's so realistic that it makes you think they're absolutely real. As a giant robot fan, I want that feeling again
back when 4DX movie was still a thing watching this movie was such a feast, and I didn’t even like those 4DX things to begin with. It’s basically a robot nerd’s carnival in the best way possible.
Man this is a documentary, they are real i saw them
Right! The jaegers and the kaijus *feel* heavy.
You can really FEEL the impact of the blows, this movie was a masterpiece
Yeah in this movie you are aware of the mass of those jaegers! I really love the part at 1:00 when Gipsy is stopping itself. You can hear the machine giving all it's got!
This movie more than any other reignited for me the thrill of the Monster vs Mech battles I grew up on with the likes of Ultraman. (Yes I'm OLD)
Yeah, it's sad the second movie didn't have the same impact and weight to it.
Especially after coming back from uprising clips, this movie does an absolutely amazing job at making jaegers feel like giant steel boulders, each step cracks the ground and every movement carries the power to level houses.
And god damn it FEEELS that way.
@@LimpForASimp_ nah it's just humiliating now

No movie has ever sold "scale" the way this does. The punch of the animation, the sound, it's all perfect. I've lost count of the many times playing D&D when I've referenced this movie when something thunderous happens, "you that sound of the robot in Pacific Rim..." and everyone goes "yep I get ya".
The 2014 Godzilla sold the scale equally as well.. but as time goes on they started losing that scale
@@firstlast9846 Speed is a big factor. The newest Godzilla and Kong movie had the monster's move way too fast for their size.
On that D&D note: I paint all of my paladins armor like Gypsy 😂
Part of it was that the camera was always placed in a way that implied people or the helis were filming the fight. You're never looking at the Jaegars, but rather up or down at them. Not to mention, the fights (minus the first and last one) were always in a city and the buildings and people gave a relative scale to compare to.
Its why the next one didnt quite capture the sense of scale that this movie so masterfully did

@@SimplyPlain probably like a plasma railgun. If it’s pure plasma, the charge makes sense, but if it’s a railgun styled cannon, then it might have a clip
This movie was absolutely incredible. It deserves a respectable sequel, not the plastic sci fi original movie that it got.
With the way it ended, I don't think it was supposed to have a sequel. Just show that it's pretty much impossible to finish a story with Hollywood.
@@alexisgirard9376 it shouldn’t have, but it did because they thought it’d draw in the cash. Uprising might get a sequel, since they set it up with a cliffhanger about them taking the fight to the precursors
@@gipsydangeramericasmonster9632 What an original idea, they certainly didn't do that the first movie.
Also, am I the only one who had a weird feeling at the end of the movie, since it's quite rare for movies these days to end a story without having a cliffhanger.
@@faariskausar3179 already did, at least it's far better than uprising.
I quite enjoyed both tbh.
A lot of people complain that action movies have their fight scenes take place at night, but Pacific Rim actually makes that work in its favor. The Jaegers' headlamps and the Kaiju's visceral bioluminescence makes everything just...pop.
It also helps emphasis the kaiju and jaegers size. Scenes during the day are somewhat harder to determine scale because the city isn't alive in the same way it is at night. The lights from the surrounding buildings and vehicles, etc etc really frame how gargantuan this fight is.
I Feel That As Well And I Think The Alien's Figured That Going At Night Would Be A Better Offensive Approach Due To Everyone Not Being 100% Battle Ready. I Mean Look At The 2nd Movie When The Kaiju Took Over The Jaeger's It Happened At Night. Noone Is In Their Armor, Noone Is Patrolling Literally Ripe For The Picking. They Must've Realized That Every Day Time Attack Has Been Thwarted Because Humans Are Most More Aware During The Day And Resting At Night. I Still Love How At Night You Can See The Detail On The Bodies And The Fact They Glow.
The night settings quite simply add a needed layer of mystique to the scenes.

This was what I loved about Pacific Rim, that mechanical, clunky, robotic feeling from those fights. The mechs seem very clunky and mechanical, which I love because it makes it feel that it isn't a gundam mech where none of those mechs ever pay attention to details. Uprising doesn't even deserve having pacific Rim in its title, Uprising is honestly just a gundam copy done poorly.
Best part about it is how they operate the lower limb. The way they walk inside the Yeagers head. That massive mechanical work of art like a rolex watch. You can feel the gravity of the scene when they work thier legs inorder to move the giant machinery unlike in the uprising where their foot is just stepping on a touch screen. I never liked giant robots nor giant monster movies because i think they're lame and childish but this... This is the only movie with giant robots and monsters with a stupid plot that i really love. And no matter how many times i watch it, it doesn't get old.
A good Gundam show does pay attention to details, though they’re not hulks like here
@@badbeardbill9956 not that kind of detail, I was commenting on how fake gundams feel, their operation is soo smooth and quick with no recoil or clunky feel to it, making it seem less authentic; like instead of watching for its operations and how the pilot uses the mech, your there to just look at its gaudy appearance and guns

Iconic.
Not gonna let it happen again like knife head
This battle is amazing.
When newt drifted with the kaiju brain, the precursors were able to see the plan to nuke the breach with striker, typhoon and cherno. Because of that, they sent out 2 kaiju that specifically counters all 3 jaegers. Otachi has a sharp tail to rip off the small head of typhoon, acid breath to tear down cherno's thick armor, and leatherback as an emp to disable striker's electric core and to tear apart cherno with brute force.
On the other hand, gipsy was a last minute launch, meaning the precursors didnt have a counter for Gipsy, making her at a huge advantage. Also the fact raleigh and mako are the types of fighters to quickly analyze the kaiju's main weapon, they stood no chance fighting gipsy
I absolutely love that fact. Things like this that stand out in a rewatch makes movies like this epic.
Welcome to the Slaughter House Kaiju bastards.
You're right but it's even better. Otachi and Leatherback had the tools individually to take out Cherno and Typhoon and together can take out Striker, Leatherback's EMP is essential for that but the same EMP could take out Typhoon too, whereas both Otachi and Leatherback both can take out Cherno: Otachi has her acid and jaws; Leatherback has dextrous hands that can pull Cherno over. Most importantly both new the secrets that kept those to jaegers alive so long: Cherno's head being in their chest with a decoy on top prevent the kind of sniping that defeated other jaegers like Typhoon and they knew that Typhoon had three pilots, this is why Otachi has three combat limbs (two arms and a tail). Also note that both kaiju have the capcity to easily bypass the anti kaiju wall should they have to.
What you say about gypsy is also true but there's more to that too. Mako rebuilt Gypsy; Newt helped design the weapons and defenses of the older jaegers but he had no hand in rebuilding Gypsy. So the kaiju were using old, out of date info they had on gypsy, didn't know about her improved internals or her swords.
I love this movie.
More detail: Cherno Alpha has a fake head, the real cockpit is in the torso, maybe that's why the Cherno keep fighting for 6 years straight. After the drift from Newt, the alien (I don't call them precursors because Pacific Rim 2 doesn't exist) knows exactly where the cockpit is as well as they could drown them (due to the old pilot suit doesn't have design for fighting underwater), you could see Leather Back destroy the cockpit at their torso's mech
@@Gibbons3457And also at the second fight, they released 1 level 5 Kaiju and its immediately overpower Gypsy to destroy the sword, then concentrated all attacks to Striker since it carried the bomb. The plan was simple, destroy Striker or bait it to detonate the nuke before they came to the drift. However, they did not know Gypsy also has a reactor that can act like a nuke. Only after the second connection they knew about it but it was too late for them, they did not have any time left to change Kaiju's passcode and release another Kaiju for Gypsy, meanwhile they let human knew how to enter the drift.
it also helps the fact that since gypsy isn't on by the time the emp was blasted, it didn't fry any of her electrical circuits. and none of them were prepared to counter a jaeger that is a hybrid between digital and nuclear.
Coming back to this, I remember how great this movie was. Everyone here has already explained the greats of this but what's most underrated is how smart and adapting the Kaiju are in this movie. Leatherback was created solely to brutally slug it out with Cherno Alpha and use its EMP on Striker Eureka. Otachi was created to use corrosive acid on Cherno while its tail made it easier to handle Crimson Typhoon's triple arms. Eventually the Kaiju would create more kaiju at the end to counter Gypsy Danger and Striker Eureka when they took the fight to the Kaiju. Such a cool movie. It makes me a little kid watching it.
Quick edit: I also love how the pilots progress and develop. Raleigh learned from his mistakes when in the first part of the movie, the Kaiju played fake dead and that's what costed him his brother and the trauma. Now you see him pass on this to Mako and the two make sure that Leatherback is truly dead before they move on to make sure Leatherback isn't faking death. Mako eventually conquers her fears and is able to compose herself more and more throughout the movie.
I just rewatched it yesterday and it's amazing how it doesn't feel like a 2013 movie, you can see it's not "avengers-styled movie" like Uprising but you can see it's old, you just don't know how old.
Both Otachi and Leatherback could handle Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha on their own. Leatherback's EMP could have dropped Typhoon, and Otachi was holding off Cherno whilst casually decapitating Crimson Typhoon, even before Leatherback dropped in to deliver to 'coup-de-grace'. Cherno's EMP was essential for dealing if Striker but he needed space charge it, which Otachi was there to provide. The duo were a Jaeger hunting, kill team, and so well designed without the movie having to explain it to us in detail. It's just there to find for the audience.
It's weird though how Otachi is pregnant. If the Kaiju are assembled, like organic machines on an assembly line, how are they reproducing?
@@teawrecks1243In my opinion the precursors knew that there were only 4 jeagers left and were confident they would win since without gypsy 3/4 of the jeagers would be dead. They probably sent itachi pregnant so that the baby could help terraform.

whish pacific rim 3 is directed by del toro
And its a prequel not a shitty sequel
where both raligh mako and chuck fight
Every time I watch this scene 1:26 always get me pumped up.
I love this line, that words always come to my mind when I am doing something hard
2013: CGI is excellent and the action scenes are memorable/great.
2024: CGI is terribly bad and the action scenes are generic/boring.
wat, the CGI still holds up, better than a lot of stuff today
0:01 when youre failing a class but find the quizlet that has all the answers to the test
3:34 the most badass cowboy boots you ever seen
Del Toro said that Gipsy Danger must ve looks like a John Wayne. How in those old cowboys movies. Because Gipsy Danger Is the hero of the movie.
One of the details I love the most about this movie is how the pilots look like they actually gotta put physical effort into moving the Jaeger’s with their legs(where their feet magnetically attach in the conn pod) what a crazy workout that must be. In Uprising they literally didn’t even bother to add the leg attachments they just jump in like they’re chilling on a treadmill.
or that things of that size take a while to move around in general, but the animators still made it feel great.
Amazon explaining how my order was lost 1:08
Destroy by fucking monster
*"Empty the clip! Empty the clip!"*
The most badass movie line ever.
I wish i could watch this in IMAX again, the roars were unreal
After 7 years still Goosebumps guaranteed
This movie was everything everyone ever loved about kaiju and giant robots. It's so kinetic you want to throw a punch just watching this. Guillermo's use of the occasional physical shots with a real prop blended with CGI like when Leatherback gets socked in the face just makes it feel more real. This wasn't a sci-fi kung-fu fight. It's a brawl to the death for the fate of mankind.
1:08 when you step in a lego.
Lool XD
1:12 - Stepping on Lego
1:15 - Pain Scream
Lmao underrated comment, this made me laugh so hard
No matter what anybody says, this sequence (in continuation with the further fight with Otachi) is the best action sequence in the history of cinema...
1:29 Am I the only one that thinks gipsy danger sprinting is the coolest thing ever
no
It's the horn sound bite that gets me going
@@taylorrussell3158 right?? Especially the horn at 0:13🔥
when he said "EMPTY THE CLIP! EMPTY THE CLIP!" i felt that.
I love the part in the beginning when he said get ready this is for real
2:24 Leatherback : STOP I am the pure result of superior precursor bioengineering and you YOU ARE NOTHI..
Gypsy : *TALK TO MY HAND*
Talk. To. The. Hand.
Talk to the fist
2:21
Gipsey: WHAT ARE YOU?!
Leatherback: An idiot sandwich
Gipsey: AN IDIOT SANDWITCH WHAT?!
Leatherback: An idiot sandwich Chef Gipsey
0:10 such a epic scene
Agreed
2:11 "Amazon shipping update: Package lost in transit"
Bro- XDDD
LoL 🤣🤣🤣
I like the fact that pilots don't waste time during combact to say forced badass things like "-i think we pissed him off -yea"
Yes, and what they do say is stuff that encourages their copilots and keeps up communication with others
it's looks like 60FPS? Wonderful
That's because it is in 60fps.
Ye it is 60
Te amo
oh it is in 60fps
Where do we watch the entire movie in 60fps?
3:14 I love how Gypsy tilted the Kaiju's body before blasting it for maximum damage.
The fact they choose the fight scenes on night with a storm as the background plus the city lights just makes everything blend together so well
Empty the clip...EMPTY THE CLIP !!!
Excellent quality 👍👍👍
To be honest, i love the Jaegers in the first movie more than the second movie.
I do too you can actually feel there weight when there fighting
🤨what seconde, movie that uprising crap is not a sequel
What make Gipsy danger look so powerfull in this scene is, the interior/helm is not damaged at all not like other jeager when battle
They learned with the previous incident. Improved the head/neck area, make him more powerful, strong and added more firepower and versatile weapons like the sword.
gipsy should wear helmet. so no more yancy moments
I like how gipsy picks up leatherback like an angry toddler at 2:32
Always gives me goosebumps. I watched this as a little kid and I want it back. Gosh this movie is amazing
you can always find them in the drift!
The CGI was excellent, I love the acting, the designs, the duologue! NOT to mention the freaking EPIC SOUNDTRACK!!!!
This movie is almost a beat-for-beat recreation of ID4 and it's awesome. It knows what it wants to be and doesn't hold back. There's no pretense or condescension; it's just a good time with great moments. This was an amazingly fun time.
Watching this movie in our basement with surround sound, and in 3D? There’s nothing like it. Simply one of the greatest movies of all time.
Just love how the helicopters puts lights above them making it like they're in a stage act
This will go down in history as one of the most iconic monster movies along side
Godzilla
Kong
Gamera
Ultraman
And other iconic movies
What about the mega Kaiju?
@@StellarBelt No.
@@lordshotgun7168 That Was My Opinion
@@StellarBelt No one cares.
@@lordshotgun7168 That’s Not Very Nice
Ive always enjoyed the fact none of the fights in the movie are heavily one sided. It brings in more tension and makes every fight interesting and fun to watch.
This movie couldn’t have gotten its theme tune more right, I love it. Seen this movie more times than I’d like to admit lol
This is the best film that I've ever watched. The film combines two genres: action and science fiction. The filmmakers have invested a lot in the action scenes, the combat and the appearance of the giant robots as well as the monsters. Moreover, the content of the film is not too complicated but very attractive. It is the bravery of humanity to fight for peace, and to kill the giant monsters. The huge level of robots or monsters also contributes to giving viewers a feeling of being overwhelmed, creating suspense and a climax for each battle segment. I believe this is a movie worth watching and leaving viewers with an unforgettable feeling.
1:27 "let's do this together!"
Well duh aint that kinda the point 😂
I’m geeking out so bad at the library rn... ahhh!! I love this movie
It has been 11 years, still waiting for Pacific Rim 2
0:34
I love that moment.
Some camaraderie that shows how they really did achieve world peace ✌️❤ ✊🏽
🤣🤣😭😭😭😭🤣🤣😭 I always did love that moment.
The way Leatherback's body jiggles and vibrates with every movement makes him look so real. I could believe he's a real animal if not for his size.
0:03 this scene only is far more better than the whole uprising fiasco
I swear the funniest thing about this movie is the people's absolute denial of the existence of its sequel ha ha🤣
It was that BAD💀
Watching this in Imax wasnt just amazing, it was literally an experience like no other! My favorite memory of my dad and me go to see this!
Gypsy danger: picks up the shipping crates for added weight to punches
My phone: your amazon delivery has been delayed
This may not be the best movie of all time but it’s by far the coolest.
1:44 that uppercut had more impact than any other blow in the sequel
nice to see people actually acknowledge that the sequel is still very much a thing even with how bad it is.
