Wait. I don't drink beer. So if I had drunk beer regularly since I turned 18, I would have spent an absolute fortune on it. I can now spend this all on synth gear/software instead! Thanks Ian! 🤪
Go for it! And please invite me over to play with it all... 😄
This is a very well thought out point. I’ve oftentimes thought that we should consider the time we can spend being entertained by scrolling through presets and settings. Well said!
Cheers, Mastt. It's not always about making music 😊
This perspective certainly opens up new doors!
Just don't step through too many at once 😊
In addition to a few hours of entertainment, which is valid in its own right, there's also the possibility of learning something, or being inspired by a particular sound. Plus the process of finding your way around a new piece of soft gear is good brain exercise!
Hi Barry - Yes indeed. My main reason now for getting new stuff is the never-ending search for inspiring sounds 👍
The way I see it is that when it comes to your interest that is money well spent. We live in such amazing times in terms of music technology and could have never got our hands on e.g a mellotron or a b3 back in the day. There is the artistic side of plugins as well.....they look cool....so in a way you are buying a bit of art or you can appreciate the design. We could probably do all our music on Synth1.......but GAS makes the world go around
Heck, I think you've totally demolished the argument against G.A.S. 😄
NOOOOOOO !!!. I have watched it !!!! I am doomed 🤯
🤣 I sincerely hope not...
@@IanWaughToo late!!! 😄 Just hours before I had already bought Aurora by UVI. At 39€ (less VAT for me, so just 32€) as a recurring customer, it was a too good one to pass. And, well, your video was usefult to relieve my pain 😂
@@JoseVGavila Glad to have been of assistance 😄
I bought so much "bargain" software that I never even downloaded that I had to put a halt to it.
Yeah, that happens sometimes. I haven't installed all the bits in Kontakt 14 from 2 years ago 😢
I agree and most of my purchases in life have been bought using this philosophy. Not really bought much since Black Friday. But SSL Flexverb and Delay pops up at £40 the pair - why not. Do I really need yet another reverb and delay - a resounding NO. But as you say its something that will deliver joy infinitely longer than the equivalent value of a takeaway and a couple of beers that will be forgotten by next weekend. Hardwear has been limited however by running out of physical space for me and the gear in the same room. Not eating and just buying software is slowly opening up possibilities on the hardware side too. So a win win!! 😂
We each have to find our own path, but I don't think I could give up pizza 😊
good way of looking at it. Ian, you have some hardware space on the top shelf of your stand get a bit of hardware GAS. What is the claw thing for? back right, to clip camera in?
Hi Tim - I'm keeping the top shelf for the perfect synth 😊
Yes, it's mainly for Grandmother vids but has had little use of late...;
@@IanWaugh hmm perfect synth, is there one?
@@DisciplinedCommotion That's the point 😄
Although I am waiting to see what Behringer's DS-80 is like...
2023 was a successful year for me in that I managed to go the whole year without purchasing one piece of equipment. I wonder if I shirked the discipline when I celebrated by selling one guitar, getting a successor and also grabbing a new pedal processor. I would be well served not to get anything else through the remainder of the year. Question is: will I?
Do you feel better served to get a pint of beer for £8, Ian - or that software? The pint’s entertainment pales by comparison.
It does indeed although it is usually accompanied by friends and that's difficult to put a price on. Although I probably could if pushed... 😊
You can (and probably do) share the music you make using that plug-in with those same friends, don’t you, Ian?
@@Shred_The_Weapon I try... 😊
Oh that means I will have to get everyone of those silly little Behringer synths.
I have the pro VS Mini
.
So I'll have to get the rest of the matching set
Mind you since I gave up drinking alcohol. I find I have a lot more money
Hi David - Yes, not drinking can fund a lot of synths 😄
This is a very dangerous video lol, but bargains are bargains
And they offer sooooooooo lmuch entertainment vvalue 😄
Is this the right time to say I’ve just bought a new motherboard and cpu?
@@TheSemtexCow Such things are beyond price... 👍
@@IanWaugh actually 60% off lol bargain buy buy buy
@@TheSemtexCow And it's always good to save money... when spending it 👍😄
This video is dangerous indeed. If I skip going to a Taylor Swift concert (in a good seat) I can buy me a Eurorack modular synth! On the other hand, I'd never, _ever_ go to a Taylor Swift concert...
And I think the whole music world would benefit 👍
'Game Changer' software from a certain developer anyone?
All software is a game-changer 😊
