    Hello California Gardening! I love your channel! I have had success with growing blueberries. My experience has been that you need 2 different varieties or you won’t get any fruit. I have a tiff blue variety and another variety I don’t know the name of. I have them in pots next to each other and have had lots of blueberries since doing that. I hope that helps and keep up the great work! ☺️

    I have many of the trees you have. You need to put the blueberry in a pot, so that you can acidify the soil. You can use peat moss as a top dressing and
    acidic soil mix. You will need a few plants if you want any sort of production. South moon and emerald are the best. I suggest panache or violet de Bordeaux instead of the mission fig. You will get 30 to 75 figs per plant if you use a 5 gallon pot. If you go to 10, you will get 100 to 200. A jujube or two will give you winter fruits as will a fuyu persimmon. We can also grow apples here in so. Cal. You can ignore the chilling hours for many, such as Fuji or cox orange pippin. I also suggest a pluerry or pluot.

I have 23 fruit trees myself in San Diego, all in the ground. You have a wide selection, however, they do seem to be a tad close together? Hello, thank you for your beautiful videos. I have a question about banana trees. On my family property there is a group of banana trees that will not produce any edible fruit. It's growing in a corner spot next to a barn with good sun. We are in south Louisiana with a lot a clay in the soil . Do you think that I could dig up a couple of small trees and move to another area and make them grow good bananas?

      REALLY depends on where you are. L.A. and orange counties have some of the mildest weather. Riverside, where I'm from, gets colder and hotter than L.A. despite being an hour away. And Palm Springs is almost always hotter than that. Still hotter is Indio/Coachella/Salton Sea. 124 degrees is not unusual in summer.

I have recently moved to Brentwood, California and want to plant some fruit trees in my backyard. This will be my first time gardening. Which fruit trees will you recommend for a newbie like me? Also what should be the distance between two fruit trees? The soil is very hard clay, do I need to amend it before planting fruit trees? where do you buy the tropical fruit trees from? Please guide.

    • @CaliforniaGardening

      Recommended distance is 5 feet but you can get away with a distance of 3 ft for most dwarf trees. For clay soil, amend with planter mix (available at Home depot and local landscape supply companies in bulk). Keep adding compost and planting mix every 3 months and soil will be very fertile in a few years. Good luck!

    I love your content so much. I'm curious, where can I get these fruits trees by seed?

    Do they all do well during freezing weather?

      Not sure yet. Some of them did survive the last winter though. A little concerned about the sugar apple (sitaphal) and lychee tree

    Can I ask why you chose different avocado variety from the Gem avocado tree?

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats because the GEM is not sold now. Gwen is the next closest.

    Where do you buy your garden soil?. I want some good soil which I can use to make my own potting soil.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For containers, I mix my own, I have several videos posted on how to mix. For raised beds, my contractor got black farm soil initially and then I have been adding home made compost on top of it

      @@CaliforniaGardening yes I watched few of your videos on potting mix. I really don’t like the potting mix I get from the shops. After watching your videos I am inspired to make my own. But don’t know where to buy the soil.
