In this stellar episode of AJIO Presents The Ranveer Show, we host Dr. Vikram Sampath. He is a popular Indian historian, noted for authoring biographies of Gauhar Jaan and V. D. Savarkar.
Bangalore-based historian Dr. Vikram Sampath is the author of 8 acclaimed books of history including biographies of Gauhar Jaan & Veer Savarkar & Bravehearts of Bharat on unsung heroes of India. He was elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Historical Society of the UK, a winner of the Sahitya Akademi's first Yuva Puraskar in English literature & the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Research in New York. He has a Ph.D. in history & music from the University of Queensland, is a trained Carnatic vocalist & has established India's 1st digital sound archive for vintage gramophone recordings called the Archive of Indian Music.
This video is a breakdown of the Indian Freedom Struggle. The Indian independence movement was a series of historic events with the ultimate aim of ending British rule in India. It lasted from 1857 to 1947. Few leaders followed a more violent approach, than the others. This became especially popular after the Rowlatt Act, which permitted indefinite detention. The Act sparked protests across India, especially in the Punjab province, where they were violently suppressed in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Indian independence movement was in constant ideological evolution.
He is one of the most knowledgeable guests on the show. Hope you enjoy this episode.

I’ve been studying Ramayan for years and I don’t understand why ppl keep saying that Ramayan has very linear characters. Each character have so much subtlety. Bharat wasn’t perfect, Sugreev wasn’t perfect, same with Dasarath. Even look at Raam, he was so full of emotions. The fact that each character is so human is why I love this book.

From USA. I have recently come across this epic and I am almost finished. This is the best story to ever be told! I can not express the many feelings and thoughts from my experience so far. I am so glad this has come to me. Thank you.

I'm reading lots of Indian history these days and the difference between what India was and what she has become today is absolutely flabbergasting and astounding.

In addition to being the grandest epic of India, the Mahabharata also pioneered the idea of non-linear story telling which is followed by many movies and novel plots today. The story of Mahabharata actually starts many generations AFTER the war with a descendent of Pandavas doing yagna blissfully unaware of his own identity and history. The story unfolds as a flashback retold by a serpent that appears in the yagna!! Even within this retelling there are multiple backstories of varying depths to give sufficient depth to even minor characters of the story. This innovative structure is also a reason why the epic has outlasted all other tales.

Great conversation, the nuances of Mahabharata are elegantly illustrated here, true indeed aspects of the epic deals with raw emotions, it's sublime too, enacts fall from grace, then entertains divine intervention etc. Thank you Ranveer, loving this.
