    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Burn in is the process for exercising new audio equipment. Most headphones require at least 40 hours of burn-in time to reach their optimal performing state. The main purpose of the burn-in process is to loosen the diaphragm of a newly crafted headphone and to stress the headphone driver. Most audiophiles agree that the sound quality will be noticeably improved after burn-in.
Remember: not all speakers will sound dramatically different after break-in. Some improve only marginally, some might not change at all while others can change in a drastic way.
    How do I do it?
    -------------------------
There are different ways to burn-in your headphones (or earbuds). The most common ways include running a variety of music, white noise, pink noise, radio noise, frequency sweeps, etc. through the headphones at a medium volume. Note: too high of a volume can cause damage to, or even kill your headphones!
There are no statistics stating which method works best. Music is an obvious burn-in candidate and works quite well if you have a broad range of musical genres in your playlist. Playing only one type of music however will not exercise and stress the entire audio spectrum.
How long should I do it?
    ----------------------------------------
The general rule is about 40 hours. Some people burn-in their headphones quickly playing them 40 hours continuously after bringing them home. This may not be good because, the diaphragm may be too weak at this time and should not be pushed to the limit. The best thing to do may be to plug your headphones into your computer or mp3 player, set the volume to medium, and let your music play for up to 4-5 hours a day for 5 days (perhaps, while you are at work or sleeping). After that, your headphones will most likely sound their best. Note: you do not need to listen the whole time. Use it at your own risk!
    Directions for use
    ------------------------------
Please connect your headphones to your computer, remove them from your ears, turn the volume to mid-level (medium), press play on the player below, and let it play for the desired time.
Do not listen to your headphones while the burn-in file is playing!
The audio burn in file contains a nonstop loop of: White noise, pink noise, radio white noise, 20-20000 Hz frequency sweeps, 10-30000 Hz frequency sweeps, 20-200 Hz frequency sweeps, as well as a minute of silence in between each for a rest period.

Thank you! I have tried your video on my speakers, headphones, and I do notice major improvements even after 1 hr of running it. It went from barely hearing a bass line to be able to hear a well articulated and well sustained bass. I also have a set of Bose speakers on my A/V setup that i used for many years and I have been complaining the volumn is not enough (always have to turn it up to listen clearly for movies) - now after running it for only 1.5 hr i can hear it more clear and the sound went from more flat to more "3D". This is amazing. Thank you!

I just want to thank you again for the video as it has made trememdous improvements to all my headphones, speakers, for a cost that is next to nothing! This is Amazing!
If someone still doubt if this is a myth or it is placebo effect, i can say it is definitely real. I have a Bose sound system with two additional tower speakers for left and right. For past 10 years i have been complaining the sound is not great, and I don't know why. I tried different things, made adjustments to everything i can think of. But still the same. I even have guests came over for a movie night saying they cannot hear very clearly. And I have been thinking may be my amp is not powerfull enough, etc.
But after running this video for 2-3 hours, it made huge difference. But if you do the same, please make sure *all* speakers, including center and surround ones, need to run the audio from this video. What i do is unplug the left/right channel speakers and put the L/R speaker wires to the speakers i want to burn in, like those surround speakers and center, then run this video/audio with 2 channel stereo mode. This is to make sure those speakers are burn in without the Dolby or other sound mode avoiding the sound to come through those speakers.
So now, after the burn in, even my surround speakers run so well that I can finally have full experience of 5.1. I can feel like i am actually there in the movie (because the sound from the surround is also crisp and clear). One way to describe it is almost like, if i draw a parallel with visual, it is like going from looking at a pixelated picture, to a HD high resolution picture, but in the audio sense. You hear the sound and you feel like you are hearing the real sound coming out, and it is not from a speaker. It is that good! Try it and see!
Again, thank you for posting this video!

it will probably work if you have studio grade headphones,i don't know about cheap ones, but in high quality gear you can tell the difference if you have sensitive hearing.I got the DT 990 pros which have razor sharp highs and this thing here tamed them down.I could barely play my games before, like after some hour I was getting ear fatigue and wanted to take them off.Now i can play for hours no problem because the highs are more ''mellow''.And I imagine I used this video once.I still need to do some more burning in I dont even think i have 40 hours of use already. So yeah if you have problems with sharp highs try this it will probably help.

How appropriate that there are a pair of AudioEngine speakers in the pic....I just bought a pair and the bass is non-existent. The stage is wide and clarity is great. They even go really low (they have a bump between 30-45Hz). Over 120Hz they are excellent, but the most audible bass (60-120hz) is missing. I'm hoping this will help. PS - I noticed the Oppo PM3s too. I'm thinking maybe the A2+ speakers I bought are just too neutral for my taste (much like the PM3). Any thoughts?

I recently bought (earbuds) Brainwavz Jive, at first they were ok, I heard some bass, then after 2 hours all bass and clarity just went missing. The volume was somewhat inconsistant too - is this possible?

From memories the used hd 700 I owned had more clarity and dynamic. I've heard that the hd 700 require 400 hours of burn in according to amazon reviewers so should I play this all week? p.s I got a pair of AKG k702's today and so far they sound over 9000 times better than my old £20 turtle beach head set :D

    • @TechTipIL

Do you have an amplifier and/or DAC for your K702's? They will benefit more than marginally with proper power.

Plugged into a £200 sound card, also the A5+ apparently has an amp built into it, so i guess i could use them to power my headphones too

So I go through earphones like bottles of water. I wear them for at least 10 hours per day and so like most things they break after about 2-3 months of use no matter how cheap or expensive they either get broken connections (door handles 😂), just wear out and die in one ear from over use or earwax. So I bought another new pair of earphones yesterday and they were cheap ones (most I’ve spent is like $200) these ones were about $15. I couldn’t hear most of the lyrics of the songs of the drums even changing the sound settings on Spotify. 30 mins of this video and wow! I can hear the difference. Definitely going to have this video run overnight

    • @hehehehe9240

burning in a headphone is basically exercising the headphone like how you exercise your body. If you keep doing it at the recommended time (40hrs) then your headphones will loosen the diaphragm and sound making it stressed out and do better after it's burn in/exercise. Stressed out doesn't mean it's breaking you will also feel stressed out after an exercise too so it's not a bad thing.
