    I did not see a failure there, I seen success. What you showed was the reality of hunting and trying to figure it out. You did not fake the difficulty of getting into the back country. It was fun to see someone experiencing the same kind of difficulties, I have experienced, and learned from. Thanks for showing the good, bad and ugly. Showing your frustration, and recovering from it.

    Your hunt videos are so real. Nothing faked or cut out. Makes me realize that I give up too easy when I am in the backcountry. A good hunting partner or mentor does change it from a solo effort but can bring a new level of satisfaction.

    • @MindfulHunter
      @MindfulHunter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In hindsight, they would’ve been very handy for some of the deactivated roads. I’m not sure if overall it would’ve been worth carrying the extra gear though as there wasn’t that many of those that I was on, and the rest of the country was either too broken or too brushed in for skis. I would like to get some experience with them in the future, though.

      Absolutely love it so far. But to be fair it only got down to about -15°C at night so I don’t really feel like I’ve pushed it to the limit yet. I’m heading back out in three weeks and it will likely be much colder so I’ll post a full review after that but so far it’s looking good.

    Love the artsy fartsy stuff with the poem and some of the camera angles and shots, andthe reflective soliloquy at the end. Could do with a little less of the play-by-play of getting around in the mountains. Love your work, keep at it! Just don't forget that hunting is a minimum 50% "failure" rate or more in most places! In some sense not accomplishing the goal of punching the tag, which is always the overarching goal, is a separate consideration of whether you succeeded or failed. I'm right there with you in that stage of the hunting journey...7-8 years in, two tags punched. Happily one of them was a mountain goat! Awesome critters to hunt, love every minute in the mountains, even the miserable ones.

    You’re hardcore, Jay! Cool film. I’ve posteholed before in deep pow and was exhausted walking 10 yards, don’t know how you managed to summit. Have you considered using skis to skin your way up? I’m taking some lessons from you about risk mitigation and figuring out the most likely and consequential failures in the field and how to mitigate that risk (have an extra map- redundancy, prioritize durability over weight savings on specific pieces of gear). Was really hoping to see you get a goat but at least you figured out that your system is so dialed you can pretty much surthrive in the most harsh environments!

    • @MindfulHunter
      @MindfulHunter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks brother. That’s a very common question. I’ve been getting about skis. And while there were some sections where it would improve my efficiency, the majority, the train I was in was either two broken or too timbered for me to use skis. I would like to look at figuring out someway to work them into the system, though cause I do think that could be a limited application.

      Dude, it’s one of my favourite things about that Bino harness. And I don’t know if you saw the film where I lost my phone, but it was because I was running a different Bino harness or at least that was one of the contributing factors. @@bradenherle8774 it’s the Alaskan guide creations, Kodiak cub, Max. And I totally hear what you’re saying but it’s unbelievable how tight it is when it’s in there like you have to use two hands to get it out and the elastic fabric that they have on there is ribbed which creates even more friction, and then the life proof case I have it in is rubberized, which creates even yet more friction.
