    Great video! Jim and I enjoyed your story. What a grand view on the mountain ridges and being along to see the brutal hike to your big mule deer. Heavy Hunts live up to their name! You and your dad looked exhausted at the end of each day, but excited to get hunting the next morning. Thanks for sharing the awesome experiences, the OnX Hunt details, and more. Keep up the great work telling your story and sharing it with us.

    I never comment on videos. When I watched yours I feel prompted to comment. So I will. Not knowing you from the man in the moon, I gather from this short video, you and your old man are good people. I believe you have the character to separate right from wrong. Pretty cool you showed what you considered yourself, the wrong shot. Knowing the possible backlash. When videos are authentic, they are felt more than watched. Hunting is challenging. Heart beating, mind racing, sometimes leads to a improper shot. Experience and composure can’t be taught. But you’ve learned a bunch from this trip. Your adventure with your dad will live with you forever. Not a doubt, the next Muley in your crosshairs… the shot will be on time. Nice buck man! Hard work pays off. Good job!

      Thanks Chad. Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I have tried to be authentic in the few videos I have posted. I realize I didn’t make the best choices on that shot. I don’t like hunts that can contribute to giving hunters a bad name. However we are all human and sometimes we make mistakes. I could have scrapped the film and not shared But I felt like the experience and the story were worth sharing. Glad you enjoyed and thanks again for the comment!

    A great hunt in brutal backpack hunting conditions! Well done!
    Since you mentioned it, I was “surprised” at the shot but not disappointed in it. We’ve all been there. Work so hard for a shot opportunity and there it is. You take it, when patience may have been better. But in the end you have a great buck on the ground and you took the shot you had, that you had confidence in making. Hopefully you’re done beating yourself up over it by now!

    • @heavyhunts
      @heavyhunts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea. It’s just not the way you hope it goes down exactly. It took me so long to get steady on that log, and when I finally felt solid I just the shot because I felt like I had wasted so much time already. It was weird watching the shot back for the first time because I was actually surprised myself at how hard he was quartering. The more animals I harvest the more I try to tell myself to slow down and enjoy the moment and be patient but sometimes it’s hard to do! Thanks for watching!

    Awesome buck! Great video, well edited and high quality. I appreciate your review of the shot placement, it tells me a lot about your desire to consistently grow as a hunter and show what actually happened on the hunt. Great video and great buck! You made two good shots and the buck is dead. I once shot a nice 11pt whitetail in the throat patch at 8 yards. I had a few people question the shot. • @heavyhunts
      @heavyhunts  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Works great. Heats up the tent in no time. Could wear a t-shirt in the winter when the stove is on. I went with the SXL because the bigger the chunks of wood you can put in, the longer it will burn at night without needing more wood. None of these light backcountry stoves can hold a ton of larger wood but I’m happy with this one!

      @@ExplorersWorkbench it packs down into a nice small bag but I usually strap it to the outside of the pack just because i try not to squash down the stove pipe and spark arrester/draft parts. It seems to work better on the outside of the pack because of its shape also. But very lightweight and worth packing on colder hunts!

      @@sonyou98 It was just a reminder to those who aren’t used to hunting in the west and the typically longer shots. A lot can happen between you and an animal that is 300 or 400 yds away. Especially if most of your experience on live game is at something less than 200 yds.
      And after 50 some years of hunting I have made many mistakes and will probably still do so. But, I never feel like I can’t learn from those mistakes and hopefully not repeat them.
