Quick question for anyone who has owned one of these neat little trucks for a long period of time. With great maintenance and easy, careful driving habits, how many miles/kilometres have you clocked between overhauls of the engine? I have lived in the Philippines for the past six years and Suzuki mini trucks (many imported used or in pieces from Japan) are in service all over the country. It is hard to know just how long they could last as I often see the trucks abused and with very poor maintenance. I see many different makes of vehicles run with only water in the cooling systems and often with no radiator cap installed. Many rides see few if any oil changes. It is almost as if the owners find it cheaper to rebuild/repair than do proper maintenance. We now have Suzuki Carry trucks available brand spanking new in the Phils and I would appreciate knowing what I could reasonably expect if I purchased a new turbo-diesel, gave it superior maintenance and drove it gently? i’ve got a 1991 every with the f6a turbo, we found the fram oil filter you use and tried it out but it actually leaks, not sure if maybe its just not tight but just wondering if anyone had the same problem. Have been leaking since i did the first oil change from off the boat
Oldest we have run them on is 94 (and a couple 99 turbos) I would check to make sure the old o-ring wasn't stuck to the oil filter mount on the engine as this is common and would definitely cause a leak. Other then that a full one turn after seating the filter should do it.
Hello, I have a 1997 DD51T with F6A motor. In your video, you mentioned gear oil filler and drain plugs are at the transfer case area. Is that just for the oil in the transfer case and there are separate filler + drain plugs for the gear box -or- one set of filler + drain plugs for both transfer case & gear box? Ie thousands of lbs, way more then they seam like they should be able to. Or do you think they are WAY under rated for carrying capacity.
These little Japanese kei class are rated for 850lbs the next size truck up is not much bigger but can have ratings up to 2200lbs! Those are typically what you would see doing the heavy work

You talked about type of oil to use in it... I use good quality diesel oil in not just this but all my vehicles. 10-30 I believe. Might be 10 40. Regardless, if it's good/best for my Cummins, it's best for my 3 banger
I use Premium, 91/93 octane (America) in mine otherwise it runs poorly. (I use premium in all my small engines from my Harley to the lawn mowers. Tends to keep them running well) I also put SeaFoam in the tank with the 76,000 KM on the odometer. Have no idea if it really help it but it's just "one of those things I do" with all my engines, small or large to keep things clean.
@@chrischapman276 I use 91 octane ethanol free gas in my truck. When I bought it the truck had been sitting for 18 months with ethanol fuel in it. The ethanol blend ate a hole in the gas tank that cost me $800 USD to replace.
Hi there, a differential pinion seal is a very common replacement item on any vehicle with that type of axle. Over time the seal can wear out or crack and even just a piece of dirt stuck in there will cause it to leak. I only have the base suzuki specs which says to use a 75W-80 GL5 oil in the differential

I could use any information you got on the 4 wheel drive system. When I shift into 4 high you can hear everything working but it doesn’t show it’s in 4 wheel drive. I have to peck on the 4 wheel drive control box with something then it goes into 4 high.
Kentucky Raised not sure what model and year you have but the 4x4 system on these newer carrys has two parts to it. When you pull the 4wd lever it is pulling a mechanical cable that is shifting the transfer case to engage power to the front diff. The front diff is engaged via an electronic solinoid that engages the front axle sending power to the wheels. I have seen something as simple as a low battery cause the front diff to not engage but also it could be due to a wiring issue or just faulty solinoid which you can replace (just check your battery first haha) If it's an older stly Suzuki then the front diff is vaccum engaged so you would have to check vaccum lines or again the actual vaccum switcher in the front diff.

That's the front diff and the little black box is called a Free Axle Control motor It engages and disengages the front axle. Check to ensure your battery is good first. If you regularly run the truck for short periods and start and stop the engine alot the battery voltage can get low enough that the truck might still run or boost easily but little items like the 4x4 electronics can start to get affected by the low mileage. If your sure your battery is good you can replace the little black box as it may be damaged or have moisture in it. (There is a little vent tube coming off the front that needs to be in place so if it's missing or cracked water can get in there.
The 1990 Carry will be very similar except for the the air filter, they used 2 different sizes of cylindrical filters so you will need to measure before you order. Also you will want to check and replace your distributor cap and rotor if it hasn’t been done in a few years and is worn or corroded. You should be able to find all those parts from a supplier like www.minitruck.ca

I have a 2005 Carry and Suzuki says that the engine can be expected to last 160,000 miles.

They are wired the same.
The batteries are a little undersized, so that might need to be upgraded for a winch.

The fuel filters are in the fuel tank on that model. It's the bit plastic housing that holds the fuel pump and fuel gauge float. Where are you from?

You probably could however that is heavier than recommend so you wouldn’t want to run that in colder climates. Also make sure it meets GL5 spec.
