How I Caught My BIGGEST Bass Ever!

  • Howdy Fishing Freaks! Today's story is answering the number one question that I get asked on TH-cam. What is your Biggest Bass Ever? When I was a fishing guide on Lake Fork years ago I caught a giant largemouth bass while fishing a jig in the month of March. Fishing a jig is one of my favorite ways to fish for big bass, especially around stumps and trees in stained water lakes. I'll explain how to find big bass this time of year and how I was fishing my jig when I caught the biggest bass of my life. Hopefully I get a new PB largemouth bass this year, and we have a new story to tell on video. Get you lines tight and your eyes up Fishing Freaks!

I started bass fishing a year ago, just caught my PB 24" I guess 8lb in a neighborhood pond yesterday. I have no one to tell and no one seems to care. Thought fishing freaks here would appreciate it more. Not a 11.5 lber but enough to get me excited at least for a while.

I caught my PB in March as well. Water temp was 60s, air temp was in the 40s, high winds and stuff. My buddy and I were in my kayaks, he was crawling a jig around and I was chucking a bladed jig. We found an old cove that in the summer time is full of lily pads, but in March it was just the stems. I was getting hung a lot, ripping the bladed jig out of the stems when I got THUMPED. Got it in, weighed it and it was 6.45lbs. It's no Texas sized fish, but for Ohio I was pleased.

Great story. Nothing beats cracking the whip with a jig on a giant fish.

Best fishing channel on TH-cam! You need to come to Tennessee to catch your PB smallmouth. I may know a guy who could make that happen. 😁

Enjoyed that story and that's a beautiful bass! I bass fished for 15 years, before the transition to saltwater angling. Not much for freshwater fishing where I live now. After the first ten years of bass fishing, I had lost a few trophy fish. It's heart breaking. On March 9th, 1989 I caught my trophy 12 lb. fish on a Roland Martin Big Bass spinnerbait. She was busting with roe. Like you, we drug it around the lake for an hour, before having it weighed at a local tackle shop. The owner said if I would have weighed her right away, she would probably have been closer to 13 lb. She's on my wall and my proudest moment of fishing. What's almost as good, is one year later, almost to the day, in March of 1990, I landed another trophy 10 lb. bass. March is a good bass month! I sight fished her off her bed, with a plastic worm. Again, this one was also full of roe. It was the greatest feeling, to be able to release that one and watch her swim right back to her bed. Those memories are worth more than all the money I've spent on fishing. Cheers! You got a new sub!

I caught my pub in 2012, but it's not exactly official because back then I never had a scale. Using bass recourse and other sites with guesstimate calculators based off length and girth, it was roughly about 9.02lbs. I've never caught a bass bigger than 5 since and I'm desperate to get another giant. Also, I'm glad you're getting a fiberglass mount because they generally come out amazing! I released my giant right back where I caught her, and got a fiberglass mount for my birthday of her a few months later, and it couldn't have been a more perfect representation of her. The size, coloring, and even the belly detail was accounted for perfectly just from a few photos. Fiberglass mounts are freaking awesome and I hope more and more of you bass guys realize that you don't need to kill the fish to get the perfect mount. But I would just love to get to hold her again, and experience the amazing feeling of watching that big of a bass swim off back into the depths. There very chill when handling them and stuff too which is pretty sweet. You can almost feel their wisdom and experience of living in the lake for 15+ years, as your bass showed when she followed the grass line back to deeper water to blend in. Pretty freaking awesome.

I lost the only 10lb bass I've ever hooked. I was fishing this lake that was hidden, it's in the middle of the woods / cornfield next to the highway and this place is amazing. I target bass but I'm far far away from a pro, I just walk around the bank and drag jigs. On a good day at any other lake I'll catch 3-4 bass maybe like a bass/hr. I caught 13 one day at this lake and 21 the next week both in about 2hrs worth of fishing. One day was extremely tough , I had around 5 in about 2 hours I switched over to a shaky head and on the 2nd cast I hook something, it seemed massive but it was swimming towards me, I get it about 15ft from shore and it turns and started heading towards the weeds , omg I've never had a bass fight so hard, I hooked it on a Medium action spinning rod with 10lb braid and flouro when it took a run towards the weeds l could not stop it! I put my hand on the spool to apply some more pressure and the braid cut into my ring, middle and pointer finger then when I got it to turn its head it attemped a jump but it was more of like a flop and my god...the girth of that bass and the size of that mouth. I've never ever seen a bass that big in person, then the hook poped off ....man my heart sank Haha. Haven't fished that lake in a while since i got kicked out.

Caught my PB yesterday. Been fishing all my life but have really up'd my game this past year after watching some of the techniques you and other TH-camrs show your viewers. 4'' senko flipping under a dock. Was literally practicing in my backyard during my lunch hour and couldn't believe what I pulled up. No scale but it was easily 2lbs+ bigger than any of my previous 5 pounders. Fishing is the best

On my dad's boat alone but across the cove we're camping at. Run up on a small sandy bed where the water was running down the hill. I casted like 20 times with a Nightcrawler and finally boom. When I saw her I was pumped with adrenalin. She was 10+ up in Northern CA. Like 2hrs North of SF.

I can attest to the fact that the 11.2 didn't fight much and was caught on a point near a creek channel, so if you ever get a chance to fish Lake Fork, do it.

I started bass fishing here in central Florida ( and some years on lake Guntersville ) back in 1969. I'm bass fishing now more than ever. So far, I've got four 12 lb'ers under my belt, at least a dozen topping 10, and literally countless others from 6 to 8 lbs. I am here to tell ya, IN MY EXPERIENCE, A JIG IS PERHAPS THE #1 LURE FOR GIANTS. Caught an 8.5 just 3 weeks ago on a jig, and only 2 casts later, I lost the biggest bass of my life. It was SO big, heavy, and strong, I did not believe it was a bass at first. But right before she came un-hooked ( a rarity for me with jigs ), she came just beneath the surface with a huge boil, and I got a damn good look at her as she rolled & spit the hook. That fish was AT LEAST 15 lbs anyway, judging by my past catches, and I wouldn't doubt if it was closer to 18 lbs. I was anchored in 4.5 feet of water, and that damned fish was pulling my Twin Troller forward about 20 feet. Another angler fishing about 175 feet away witnessed the whole thing. He said my boat appeared to be moving about 4 mph!!! Then he shit his pants when I pulled up my anchor & showed him, lol. This was in the Stick Marsh/Farm 13........"Lake of the native Florida giants"..........IF YOU'RE NOT CATCHING BIG BASS ON A JIG, YOU'RE NOT FISHING THAT JIG ENOUGH.

I caught my biggest bass in March of 2019. I had just went thru a rough patch in my life and I had overcome some crazy obstacles. I bought a Shimano sienna and a ugly stick rod and some Berkley power 4'' power grubs, black. With some pink jig heads. I threw out along the banks of a awesome farm pond that has some hawgs in it. I felt the lightest bite and set the hook and fought her for about 5 minutes. Got her in and it was a 10lber!!! Beautiful Largemouth pig. I took a couple pics and let her go. My next cast I hooked up on another giant and when I got her to the bank, my eyes got huge because it wasn't a bass, it was a 20" white crappie and I couldn't believe what I had caught. Took some pics and let her go. That year I had one of the best years fishing I'd ever have in my life.

Nice one man that is definitely a pig. Im a little jealous of the early spawn and huge bass in Texas. Keep up the good work.

I grew up in San Diego County. My PB is 15lbs 4 oz from a little lake called Poway Lake. That lake stocked trout in the winter and had Florida strain bass. That lake was or is very clear and deep. Back in the day I had seen much larger bass then the one I caught. My 2nd largest was a 12 lb caught out of a really small pond that was part of a creek. That pond had been stocked by a fisherman that would release some bass from Lake Hodges near Escondido.

Would you consider guiding on Conroe during the classic later this month? I'm coming into town just for the classic and looking to catch some on water action.

Fishing a pond with a lot of water clarity this afternoon. Best advice for what type of lure to use and how to work it. Southwest Florida area.
