She roasts the other members at each big show, to varying degrees, sometimes calling them devilish, calling out the meanest, or congratulating those who gained the most weight. Yet always congratulating herself on cuteness awards etc. Definitely hard to translate, and my understanding is she’s playing the ditzy witchy alien bimbo character yet her natural sincerity won’t let the harsh jokes land. I definitely had fun trying to translate the 2013 one (“Delicious” tour) (Koga mistaken for Chinese, etc), and the channel Gacha(ric) Fan has other Tomozo corner episodes from DVDs, part of their “All around girls entertainment” package
Hey and thanks! I didn't expect this to go online, but here we are :) Maybe some notes: Tomo-Zo came to Tokyo for school when she was 14; at first she commuted by train, and since she comes from planet Nicorin, it's with the Space Shinkansen. The school was in the Nakano district. She met Oreo when auditioning for EuPhoria, also based in that district. She of course didn't start her career at Nakano Sun Plaza, that would have been quite an achievement ;) but in the district. Fun fact: Oreo had an appearance on that stage when she was 11 or 12, as part of kids' dance formation. When Tomo-Zo joined Gacharic Spin, she indeed lived together with Koga for some years, but I can't say how long or from when on. What maybe got lost a bit about Angie: Hana went through a rigorous fitness program with her after she joined. Angie never quit and never gave up, even during audition, to a degree which even baffled Koga (who is known for practicing on tour even at night in hotel rooms...). In 2016 GS had a "Oreo's quest for a husband - looking for new encounters"-tour with 8 shows, that might explain the jokes about not getting married... Marriage is an issue for those female bands - housewives and especially mothers are conventionally expected to stay at home in Japan, e.g. Haruna of Lovebites quit her drumming career when she married, and co-founded Lovebites right after her marriage went bust; Nemophila went through an existential crisis when Tamu got pregnant and married, and you've seen their big relieve when she returned...
Info so cool! I wanted to share that clip cause it shows the wonderful, self effacing and everyday people behind the iconic performances and public image. Thank you for bringing it to us. Rock on!
@@RockCandy-ix3nn When it comes to interaction with big crowds, there are some nice examples - Freddy Mercury comes to mind, or Metallica's Kirk and Rob's doodle... Band Maid also did their "Omanjinai" thing at Saitama Arena, worked just as well as in smaller venues. So there are ways to do it, but I can see why not every band does it.
Nemophila most certainly did not go thru an existential crisis when Tamu got married/pregnant-there was no notion of the band breaking up or ceasing activities. As for Haruna of Lovebites, she didn’t marry-the engagement was called off.
@@ths_mk There was no doubt of her coming back, and she stated so before she went on maternity leave. I’ve never seen/heard anything to suggest she was considering leaving the band after pregnancy.
Sun Plaza is inside Sunshine Mall in Tokyo. It is popular performance space used by bands and singers to release new singles. Search for it on YT for examples of who has performed there.
It would be more accurate to say that a hotel was on top of the hall, rather than to say the hall was in the hotel. The original purpose of the building was to serve as a performance/event facility, and also as a care/housing facility for laborers.
Just to clarify, the Sun Mall is just north of JR Nakano Train Station, the Sunplaza complex was a couple hundred meters or so north of the station, and Nakano Zero Planetarium southeast of the station. No, I've never been to that particular planetarium, but have been to the mall and the hall. As you say, the hall had a great history as a concert venue--really sorry that it closed. Btw, many musicians, including quite a few members of the various all-female bands, live in Nakano Ward.

Sunshine Mall? Never heard of a mall inside the hotel??? Nakano Sunplaza Hall was in the Nakano Sunplaza hotel.

@ A long history indeed. Any idea why it closed?
You understand Japanese?
