Loved that Steve! I am a 'wan-a-be' HGV/Bus driver. However I was born severely disabled with Cerebral Palsy, therefore, I make do with watching channels like yours! I collect diecast models too.
Hi Richard thanks very much for watching , glad to hear you find videos interesting to watch mate , take care of yourself and all the best for next year.
Hi Steve, excellent channel. Just got you in my recommendations yesterday. I love your work ethic, your attention to detail and the care you take with your customer's property. Not sure I would want to be working inside that bus in the event of a fire. Only one (very narrow) means of eagress, I'd be surprised if that has passed a safety inspection to be honest. Happily working my way through your videos, keep them coming mate. Take care, Norm from Yorkshire.
I used to drive these in hull. Fleet no's 500 upto about 520. Lovely old buses. A bit tight in the cab and very hard seats. They where owned by Kingston upon hull city transport. Happy days.
Where abouts. I can remember when tnt put his foot down coming out of paragon Station to turn right onto ferensway and ended up mounting the steel barriers . He said at the time it was an engine surge. But we all knew he had lead in his right foot. Happy days 😂
Hi thanks for watching and kind comments, thought our just try explain my actions on film really to give you a idea about what is required to tow these vehicles.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve I fully understand that and love to watch it, was just a thought, as not enough apprenticeships are offered these days. Stay safe out there and thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
Loved this video. That bus drivers seat had seen better days, no wonder you didn't drive it there in the first place, and the impatient cars on the roundabout oh dear
Two points Steve, One, the next video, getting the thing out again Two, full size PSVs rarely had fuel gauges, if they were fitted they rarely worked and nobody repaired them when they went wrong… The reason for this sorry state of affairs, simple really, the vehicles were strictly monitored and were refuelled at the end of the day when they returned to the depot. The process was that they would be refuelled, have their engine oil checked and given an exterior wash before being parked for an interior clean and any defects arising that needed attention.
Thanks for watching, i use to go out with my dad also as a boy doing light recovery work ,then took him out with me when i moved into heavy recovery before his health declined sadly.
Don't know if the bus has been modded, but I drove Metrobuses for a good few years and had a few tow-ins. They were always front end tows and the recovery driver would flick one of the fuses behind the drivers' seat to disconnect the diff and save removing the half shafts.
Hi there, yes shame they didnt show me getting bus down into drive way and owner thanking me, just showed bus grounding out then cut to advert, dont think fair reflection what went on really.
I'm sure I drove past you on the M3 on Thursday! If I'd been in my other car I'd have made an effort to wave - hard to miss a bright yellow P38 with beacons :)
Hi Steve great vid,,........ Theses events are never organised properly .The weight restriction is not in force until you hit Marlow bridge so they should have directed you down Marlow High St then you would have been directly in front of Higginson Park gates (the gates you went through) without the need to shunt . I fully understand why local bus company doesn't want you publicising their vehicles on tow .As a previous duty manager for said company I can say you certainly made your money out of us as far back as Five Alls days lol Keep on trucking buddy
Bad enough driving through those exact same roads you went down to get in the 2 entrances in a 18t last week when it was busy , let alone a wrecker towing a double decker.
Hi Paul thanks for watching , think makes good recovery truck overall with manual box 530 engine with manual box. Wouldn't say no to a bit more power but we not always towing fully loaded trucks.
Steve I tow in the us an easy wondering what your truck capacity , we rate ours by tons 25 30 ton as high as 70 ton rotators , what capacity would your truck be.
Hi Tim, truck is a Daf xf530 530hp with a total combined tow weight of 80tonnes as truck weighs in at 22.5 tonnes so gives me a 57.5 tonne tow capacity. Not sure my friend what you would class this in US thanks for watching, means a lot you being a fellow recovery man.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve If it's a Boniface Recoverer US spec would call it a 50 ton(100 000lbs) as it based on the boom capacity when retracted at 30 degrees.
Hi thanks for watching, we not required to use tachos if we keep in 100km from our base as a rule. But on long distance tow work we have to comply with driving hours and use tachos.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve interesting! Thanks Steve! I would drive through Marlow to get to college and it’s busy and tight at the best of times so good on you getting through with the bus!
Hi thanks for watching , normally have to cover cover up plates and block out company names as customers dont like to see there vehicles being recovered . But this customer did not mind so could of left them uncovered.
Is your truck fully registered and O Licenced for general collection and delivery which this job obviously was (no different to delivering cars on a car transporter) as apposed to a recovery job which it wasn't. Also, do you have a PCV licence? Since December 2014, HGV licence holders have no longer been able to drive a broken down bus as part of recovery operations and have since been required to also hold a PCV licence if they need to drive the bus whilst under recovery. In any event, this job doesn't appear to have been a recovery job. As you are no doubt aware, DVSA tightened up the rules in recent years as to what constitutes a recovery job which allows a broken down vehicle to be returned to its base or workshop but not to its onward destination.
All in a days work. Great bus driving Steve. Just as well you're multi talented with the large vehicle driving. Thanks for sharing.

Great work ! Wonder why they did not drive it there ? Got to sell a lot of drinks to cover the transport costs !
Hi Keith , bus had a few mechanical issues, think they had a good weekend at the festival.
Nice job 👍 keep it up

Had to knock them into neutral and rev to work the power steering in tight maneuvers

Hi thanks for watching, trees were main concern with bus.
I own one of those and it isn't no harder to remove the hub reduction just bolts and out it comes then pull out the half shaft....
Hi Lee , easier option for recovery to be on honest was to do rear lift recovery, as i would have to refit half shaft at other end.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve Yeah sorry mate I didnt watch to the end before commentating
That hight restriction on the delivery road is just plain stupidity... Who is the genius who came with that idea ...?
Under a bus with basically 2 metal boxes holding the back up. One slip though.

3:51 Using a can of WD-40 for a stand, there? Really ought to use two for stability. 🤣

a height restriction on the HGV entrance ?? these things are sent to try us , all you can do is laugh & crack on
