Thank you so much for helping me make space. I really could not have done it without you, Carla! Thank you everyone for watching! Carla's channel is such an inspiration!
The declutter with friends episodes are my favorite. There are plenty of other videos on youtube that do that, but yours are hands down the best - always positive, upbeat, realistic, and kind to your friends! Plus, Samson, I mean, hello, expert.
As soon as she said she had a photo of herself with Grandma in the dress from when she was 12, I knew the dress must go. If clothing is important to you for the memories they invoke, the same idea can be achieved by taking a photo and filing it in a special memories album and the physical item can go. ❤️ from Australia 🇦🇺.
I sure wish I had a "Carla" in my life. I not only need to go through my wardrobe, but I will be helping my mother go through hers. Not looking forward to either, but before I buy any clothing, I'm determined to clean out my closet. The covid years have shrunken my clothes!!!
The dress from when she was 12 years old is really pretty, but it has definitely served its purpose and can go. She has that memory of it in the photo. 💕
When I’m decluttering I always put into perspective of if I donate something it may bless someone else. That makes it not about what I want and puts the focus on helping someone else.
Love this! Please tell her thank you for opening up her closet to give us inspiration for cleaning our closet and getting them decluttered and organized.
Ladies, I just binged watched a lot of Carla's videos and FINALLY went through a lot of paperwork that I had in a filing cabinet that is no longer here. I found 10 year old documents from when I had some stores, I found some files with my divorce documents that happened in 2008. Yeah, I don't know why still have them. I've been shredding papers for hours now. It feels good to get rid of them and finalize "projects ", but I'm trying hard to not procrastinate anymore. Like Carla said, it's hard that trip down the stairs taking everything out of the house and into the car, but I'm doing it!
Before I moved from Washington State to Australia, I sat down over a six month span to sort things into give to family members and one really good friends, donate, recycle or trash. I did get rid of ninety percent of my things. I did keep all my books, some kitchenware, some mementos which were shipped over in twenty medium boxes. I went through my clothes and kept a lot since I wasn't sure of how long it would take to buy new clothes. I went on the plane with three bags, a laptop bag and a purse which ended up stuffed in the laptop bag.
Man… the patience you have with your friends is amazing. I saw the ig stories from the yard sale, I hope she sold a lot and made tons of money for her upcoming Paris move.
My favorite minimalist way of decluttering my closet is to figure out how many t-shirts I wear in a week, how many jeans, etc… then I take everything out of my closet and drawers, and categorize them into piles. I pick out my absolute favorites and put them away where they belong. If my favorites aren’t enough for my needs, then I’ll add in a few non-favorites to get my totals. It’s only me in the house so I plan for 2 weeks worth of clothes.
My wardrobe is small. I simplified it during the pandemic and then donated even more in the past month. Now I have extra space in my dresser and closet. I'm happy knowing that the clothes I wasn't wearing are hopefully being used and enjoyed by others. 😊🐦
I’m gonna be fr I don’t always watch your videos…but I put them on and it helps me so much getting started on cleaning my house. My brain knows it’s clean up time once a Carla video is on. It’s starting to become a habit! I’ve searched and searched lots of YT “clean with me” type vids but your videos like this one are my favorite because you’re so positive and gentle with the people you’re working with, and it seems like you’re having fun, and it just makes me feel like I’m hanging out with some buddies and we’re all decluttering and cleaning together. ❤
We have ALL purged our lingerie (rampage included, lol) drawer. At one point or another, we need to face the fact that our bodies change with age. I think all women struggle with this. Our image is something we treasure, more than men do. So, we hold on to that memory, and that garment is like an extra piece of "hope" we have to return to that image. When in fact, our bodies, even as we age, is just as beautiful as it once was, just different. If you look at art and sculptures from years and years ago, you can visibly see the difference in younger bodies vs older bodies, but both are still beautiful works of art. ;)
If you ever need a month of tragic footage, I’m available. I don’t know if Samson could handle it. 🙈 Your videos and friends are so helpful though because it’s so real! I love that you do this. Your questions are really helping me stay focused. I just keep a playlist of your videos so I can make progress. I’m also coming up with a theory…maybe I keep forgetting things now because I have too many stories about the past. I think that’s a sure sign that I need to declutter or write a book so I can free up some mental real estate. Edited to say…THANK YOU TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS for being open to the process! 🫶🏽
Hi Carla. When I feel overwhelmed from life I love to watch your videos. They always cheer me up. My decluttering problem is more the opposite of "normal". I have to stop myself from decluttering even still useful, necessary items. It's kind of an addiction. Today my microwave goes. And the " making decisions on your present self, not past self" is so true.🎉
It seems like I've been working towards my dream wardrobe for years now. It never ends. I know my style better, I've got a lot more pieces that make me happy and able to dress in the style I've always been drawn to, I've gotten more creative with how I combine clothing, and I know about how many clothes I want in each category. But there are still so many things to address: -actually comfortable shoes in the style I like -do I need more colors for tights/leggings/undertanks or would that be overkill? -jeans that actually fit right in the waistband and lengthwise (why doesn't Old Navy ever stock 6 petite?) -new sweatpants to replace my two leftover maternity sweatpants that barely stay up -switch out a few sweaters and long sleeves so I have a greater variety of color and better cut -switch out a couple short skirts for better color and flowiness -switch out a couple jackets for better color and cut -cut the holes in my obi-style belts larger so they can actually tighten all the way without creasing If only I had more time to go thrifting.
Awwwhhh, Samson is sooo sweet, his loving side eye is precious 🥰 "These girls...amateurs!" LOL! He is sooo patient and good! You are helping me (AND many others, I'm sure!) with our overwhelming decluttering and cleaning challenges! "Hope spring eternal!" Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Hi, Carla! From few days I discovered your channel and I watch your videos. I like your way to be, simple and educated and really calm and motivated, I feel like we have the same energy in a way... You helped me to take decision about my bedroom and storage space and I de cluttered a lot, I letting go now, things that I have from more than 30 years like bed sheets from the time when I was a child😮, or objects to wear that not fit anymore but I kept because I liked fabrics...😅 And I let go some objects, some makeup , some little things that I kept and they have no more reason to keep. I will watch all your videos and I will take every day inspiration from you! Keep it so, dear, you are doing an awesome work !❤
It's amazing how closets used to be the most unusable spaces... I lived in a home that was built in the 1920's that had gas pipes going through all the rooms for the lighting. The closets were so tiny and never where you needed them. I guess they used armoires, and had a LOT less clothes than we think normal for today.
Wow I’m so impressed with the amount of hanging clothes she downsized to, the that top shelf looked so empty in comparison to when she started pulling things down. I really enjoy watching you and your friends, she has such a fun personality, good luck to her in France
identifying the reason why you dont use something is a huge part. i got stuck in the middle of decluttering when i was just saying what i liked and didnt. there were things i liked but never used and when i started to identify the reason i wasnt choosing to use that item over another it made it a lot easier to see why i needed to let it go.
Michelle did a great job! I struggle with letting go of certain items as well. I've been making my way through my closets and am almost done. I'll still need to do a few more sweeps, but it's definitely hard letting go of items you love that just don't fit anymore. I finally pulled the trigger on 90% of them. I can't wait to see part 2. Cleaning / sorting with a buddy is always so helpful.
I love when you do these with your friends, Carla! Real life is so inspiring. After watching this, I took the five skirts that I still owned and haven’t worn in years and put them in my donate basket. I just never wear skirts, so why would I keep them? Fun video! 🌷
@@susannovak8263me too. I had some I loved, but hardly wore but I just couldn't cope with the height anymore. And shoe glue does degrade, they can fall apart just sitting in the wardrobe. That's a lesson in just wear the dang things, don't save them for "good".
Sell the flower dress, she has the picture with grandma to remember it by. It's a beautiful dress, someone will love it and use it. As for the state of my closet, it's super minimal. My husband and I are living in Germany for 2 years and moved here with only 1 suitcase plus carry ons. We did not bring anything we could get here for space reasons. Definitely take into account the cost of replacing vs the cost of shipping (paying for extra luggage or whatever). Definitely replace pijamas in Paris!
New subscriber here, I’m catching up on all of your posts and your style of helping is so genuinely kind and caring, AND you are so good at convincing the peeps to donate! Great skills!❤
My best tip for working through attachment to clothing, especially clothing that doesn't fit anymore, is to take a picture of it. When I find something 👗in my closet that I love but don't or can't wear anymore I take a good picture 📸of the piece of clothing 👗and a good picture 📸 of the tag. There are so many online second hand clothing stores that I know it's likely I can find that piece of clothing again if I loose weight and I really want it. I'm a young mom with a toddler and a newborn. I have an album of clothing pictures on my phone and I know that someday after I am done having kids, if I still love a shirt or dress in that album, I can probably find it again online secondhand.
I love the memories she had attached to the clothing she had been holding.on to,.so.specific and heartwarming . I have declittered quite a bit over two years so I just have a single wardrobe and 4 draws for all clothing as I don't go out much anyhow
Great job! I try to declutter for a few minutes several days a week. I use the Fly Lady system that directs rotational focus on various parts of the home. I lean heavily on the Swedish Death Cleaning method when I’m decluttering. We move a lot, so I can also ask myself… will packing, moving, and unpacking this make me happy? You are such an inspiration! I just went through an accumulation of random papers and threw out about 5 pounds of old brochures and maps and found an envelope of cash!
I have to go in smaller piles as I get overwhelmed, but I like seeing people make good decisions. I was able to declutter two shoeboxes full of knick-knacks and small gifts while I watched :)
For me, moving was a HUGE factor in being able to let go. And now I live in a smaller space with less storage - so it keeps me from accumulating. Yet, I am still so sentimental. I attach memories to things. I need to realize I can keep the memories and let go of the things. I do love her clothing! Wish I was there for that sale.
Such a satisfying video! On so many counts! The time it took, the decision making, how organized you both were, the running around town getting rid of it all .. and then the end result!! Can't wait for part 2~ Hugs Rachele
Awww she did so well! I remember taking months going through my stuff when moving to Paris for love. And btw. we do have clothes shops here 😄 It's now mid September as this is getting released, I hope your friend will have a great time. And please remember to be patient- being a tourist and living here are two different things. She should give herself some grace for at least 6 months. Even for me as an experienced traveller it was hard. There are many expat groups on Facebook in case she is lost with anything or needs a person to talk to. Bienvenue et bonne chance. Katerina
Thank you for this! I remind myself of how my donation (I rarely bother selling) is going to benefit someone else - definitely more than it will sitting in the closet!
Answering your second question about the state of my clothes storage. I had all my day clothes in a 12 x 12 x 12 canvas cube. I had nightgowns in another. That was it. When my mother passed away I ended up bringing her clothes into my room for some reason (they're not my size or style). I also brought in a small three-drawer dresser with the intent of using it for my clothes. Suddenly I had clothes everywhere. I finally spent an afternoon purging her stuff, organizing mine in the new dresser - and then promptly forgot about all of my clothes. The stuff that was in the laundry got washed and put in the 12 x 12 cubes per usually. It wasn't until a few weeks went by that I remembered I had a newish t-shirt. Couldn't find it. Until I remembered the dresser. Out of sight, out of mind. Long story short, I'm back to using the 12 x 12 cubes and am thinking of taking the dresser out of my room.
I enjoy my minimal closet , I have about 30 items of clothing, 4 pairs of shoes, one belt, two pairs of earrings and one ring. You will see me going through our things often making sure things don't start cluttering up. I am blessed that my boyfriend is alot like me and doesn't hold onto things that are no longer of use or sparks joy. I used to help friends declutter just like you, its very fun when they are ready to let go.
This was lovely! I can only imagine how good she felt knowing her closet only has things that fit her. I am getting better at letting things go. I keep a bag for donation and a box for recycle in my room and add to them when I come across something I am ready to let go of.
I love this project where you help friends declutter. And your friends are so great, I love their vibes! I also feel like I was left with a massive cliffhanger! Is that weird?!
I’m absolutely fine to declutter and organize my own stuff on my own. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be more fun with help or that I don’t want help sometimes
I have the same problems when I declutter. I have a story for every thing! I get overwhelmed quickly. Trying to have an ideal Wardrobe is hard. Things that don’t fit but I loved are hard to get rid of for me. I am working on it. But I make sure everything fits in the drawers nicely. Nothing is over stuffed.
I give a time limit to use items I actually put tags on them use or loose and the next time I go through my wardrobe or cupboard if there still there unused they get donated . The guilt things I have just grown stronger with , these are where it’s good to clear out with a friend . ( friends and family are never going to ask you what happened to that scarf I gave you twenty years ago ) I also find where I give to with my items helps I have a friend I give my clothes to , all my house extras go outside the house and at the beginning of the year I had a boot sale . I don’t beat myself up about not selling more . 😊
Randomly I went through my closet today.. and I threw away two garbage bags full of stuff… it’s amazing where all these things come from and are hiding in the nooks and crannies. Not only did I purge two bags of garbage, I got rid of three storage boxes and a shoe rack and rolling rack and four stools (maybe 3, I may keep one as a plant stand). My closet spaces are organised and tidy and everything has a place… I am a hyper ocd organised person.. but my wardrobe isn’t what I want it to be, I want a more elevated style.. 🤷🏻♀️ but it’s a process.
I love the “what is your dream wardrobe” question because it’s going to send me into action. The last time I really organize my closet was right before Covid and I was three sizes larger. It really was my dream wardrobe, however, it no longer fits me. I love that someone else will get these great pieces l that I collected but it’s time for me to let go. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I can’t believe I didn’t subscribe before now. I love these videos. Thank you so much!
Love this!! Another great question to ask yourself is "would I buy this again today". I have a really minimalist wardrobe but I still had to ask myself that question this week and said "no, I wouldn't buy this again" to QUITE a few items 🙄🙈
Great job! Very organized at the end. I know it's hard to get rid of stuff for me. I ask myself, if I haven't used it for a long time, perhaps someone that needs it can use it instead. I love Samson the supervisor cutie. Take care and blessings to you!
I have trouble getting rid of things but I remind myself I’m working towards a curated collection of things that I love looking at and if there is anything I can see that I don’t love mixed in it ruins the whole space
Great work ladies🌟 My current closet status is constant movement. I'm buying new pieces that serve my current life and decluttering pieces that don't serve me anymore. Certainly inspired by all your videos🙌
I was having trouble keeping up with laundry after recovering from a serious surgery and I realized I had way too many of the same items so last year I purged my drawers and my closet. I’m doing it again! Michelle is right, how did it all fit?! Great makeover.
Pro organizer here. I always use white trash bags for donate and black for trash so there is no confusion. And maybe use clear for recycling. I read a story one time where a lady was moving and organizing and used a black trash bags. She ended up putting her donation bag in her car and donated her child’s black trash bag of dirty cloth diapers. They drove to their new home a few hours away and the diapers where gone. $500-$700. It always stuck with me. Ewwww
Thank you so much for helping me make space. I really could not have done it without you, Carla! Thank you everyone for watching! Carla's channel is such an inspiration!
How’s Paris?
You did an amazing job and had an excellent helper/friend!!!!
thank you so much for letting us watch! Btw I loved your cozy apartment!
Thank you for letting us into your home. Amazing declutter! 🌷

Exactly! Seriously, if you wore it when you were 12, it is not something appropriate for you to wear today... Keep the memory, not the thing.

Same. We all need a friend like Carla. I don’t have one either.
lol covid shrunk a lot of peoples clothes!! is there a friend you can swap with!? i wish i could come help you all!! xo
Listen to one of her vids while u do it and imagine she’s talking to u! It might help!
It can be hard work but so satisfying and worth it. Just take your time and keep at it and you will get there.
I love that the dog keeps checking in like ‘you ladies done yet?’ 😂 so cute!
Love this! Please tell her thank you for opening up her closet to give us inspiration for cleaning our closet and getting them decluttered and organized.
YES!! thank you so much kryssi!! xo
Animal shelters usually will accept pillows, blankets and towels. The one near us even takes old newspapers for small animals cages.

An amazing transformation, it reminds me to go through my shoes, and be ruthless with uncomfortable shoes.
We have ALL purged our lingerie (rampage included, lol) drawer. At one point or another, we need to face the fact that our bodies change with age. I think all women struggle with this. So satisfying to see her style evolve. Suggestion: changing all the hangars to one colour would help to streamline the look. Good job.
Yes! I was so hoping they would've matched all the hangers 😫 my OCD kicked in.
SHe’s moving so she doesn’t need to change them till she gets to new place in Paris where she’s going.
Love love her personality!!! Please do her whole house so we have her around for a few videos! Lol

Hi Carla. When I feel overwhelmed from life I love to watch your videos. They always cheer me up.
My decluttering problem is more the opposite of "normal".
I have to stop myself from decluttering even still useful, necessary items. It's kind of an addiction.

And the " making decisions on your present self, not past self" is so true.🎉
I totally understand it’s a dopamine release to declutter but better than shopping imo😄

-actually comfortable shoes in the style I like
-do I need more colors for tights/leggings/undertanks or would that be overkill?
-jeans that actually fit right in the waistband and lengthwise (why doesn't Old Navy ever stock 6 petite?)
-new sweatpants to replace my two leftover maternity sweatpants that barely stay up
-switch out a few sweaters and long sleeves so I have a greater variety of color and better cut
-switch out a couple short skirts for better color and flowiness
-switch out a couple jackets for better color and cut
-cut the holes in my obi-style belts larger so they can actually tighten all the way without creasing

Your Music is GORGEOUS AS YOU!!!!!! I mean the last piece......✋✋✋✋✋

I love that you went and took everything to where it needed to go right away so their is no chance of it coming back.
Such great progress, it's always better when you have someone else there to talk you out of second guessing yourself.
This was so inspiring. I live in a 1920s home that has very awkward closets so I avoid going in them. That changes this weekend!
yay!! good luck with it!!

OMG the dog's comments are the best... And his appreciation of the snack break.

there were things i liked but never used and when i started to identify the reason i wasnt choosing to use that item over another it made it a lot easier to see why i needed to let it go.
Such an excellent point I’m going to use this thanks Megan!!
If we think of our stuff as inventory it helps place perspective on each item and whether or not we want to manage that inventory!
I worked in retail in H.S. ....so now I always think of selling clothes when I think of inventory 🤣
amen!! i can not manage much without overwhelm!

I'm wearing tees and shorts until I can buy Parisian pajamas :)
My vote is to make the dress into a frame matting. It was so pretty and matched the walls.
Enjoying these " Declutter with friends " 👍👍😉

Hey Carla episode 5 of declutter with friends. You do a great job cleaning with your friends.❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you!❤️❤️❤️
My best tip for working through attachment to clothing, especially clothing that doesn't fit anymore, is to take a picture of it.
I LOVE when you do these!! Please keep them coming 🥳
Yay thanks for watching!!❤️❤️❤️
I have to go in smaller piles as I get overwhelmed, but I like seeing people make good decisions. I was able to declutter two shoeboxes full of knick-knacks and small gifts while I watched :)
For me, moving was a HUGE factor in being able to let go. And now I live in a smaller space with less storage - so it keeps me from accumulating. Yet, I am still so sentimental. I attach memories to things. I need to realize I can keep the memories and let go of the things. I do love her clothing! Wish I was there for that sale.
When I buy new items I always get rid of old items 😊
I am a new fan and inspired to clean my over stuffed closet. I wish I had a Carla in my life. Please keep the Spring Cleaning videos coming.
You can do it! More to come 💖
When I have a garage sale, I schedule a Salvation Army pick up for the Monday after to donate it all and get it out!
excellent tip!!
Such a satisfying video! On so many counts! The time it took, the decision making, how organized you both were, the running around town getting rid of it all .. and then the end result!!
Can't wait for part 2~
Hugs Rachele
This episode was SATISFYING. That was a lot of stuff for the first session!!! Dang!!!
She has a great family with great memories
Omg he was so cute with his greenie lol what a good dog ❤️❤️
A really inspiring clean out of unused items. I love that items went to particularly curated sites.
I keep a bag for donation and a box for recycle in my room and add to them when I come across something I am ready to let go of.
it saved me so much time getting dressed every morning!
I love this project where you help friends declutter. And your friends are so great, I love their vibes! I also feel like I was left with a massive cliffhanger! Is that weird?!
haha more to come!! ❤️
I’m absolutely fine to declutter and organize my own stuff on my own. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be more fun with help or that I don’t want help sometimes
Michelle did so good in paring down her possessions!
I just love declutter with friends!
yay!!
Make a scrapbook/scan pics with all your fav outfits when you wore it. You can write the story with the pic. A great gift to yourself!!
I have the same problems when I declutter. I have a story for every thing! I get overwhelmed quickly.
Trying to have an ideal
Wardrobe is hard.
🤷🏻♀️ but it’s a process.
it is such a process. i want that same elevated style and i know it is going to take time to build out with quality pieces!! xo
She did so good! Love the look of her new closet :)
she really did :) thank you!!
I love the “what is your dream wardrobe” question because it’s going to send me into action. The last time I really organize my closet was right before Covid and I was three sizes larger.
It really was my dream wardrobe, however, it no longer fits me.
I love that someone else will get these great
pieces l that I collected but it’s time for me to let go.
Take care and blessings to you!
such a good mindset!! xo
I have trouble getting rid of things but I remind myself I’m working towards a curated collection of things that I love looking at and if there is anything I can see that I don’t love mixed in it ruins the whole space
You guys have the best supervisor ever!!!!!😅
I love the Sampson goes with you he's so precious
the most precious baby boy😍
Great point, focus on going forward. Our thoughts and hobbies change , if it don't serve the place u are at now let it go . I go by this as well
exactly!!
My drawers and closet are stuffed but organized!
haha sounds good to me!
I did this type of clothes decluttering one day while binge watching your videos. Carla, you are the best helper and your voice is so reassuring!!
3:25 the dogthing🤚🏻😭❤️
Great work ladies🌟
My current closet status is constant movement. I'm buying new pieces that serve my current life and decluttering pieces that don't serve me anymore.
Certainly inspired by all your videos🙌
oh same same same!! takes time and is a process!! xo
I can’t wait for part 2. And thank you Michelle for sharing your space with us 😊
I was having trouble keeping up with laundry after recovering from a serious surgery and I realized I had way too many of the same items so last year I purged my drawers and my closet. I’m doing it again! Michelle is right, how did it all fit?! Great makeover.
Thank you! Good luck with the new purge!!
Wow, well done! Brava! This was a major declutter. It’s not easy for those of us who are attached to things!
And now you can see and appreciate all her beautiful things! Great job!!
So true!
I'm cheering y'all on the whole way through this!
You have the most calming voice!
Ewwww
ohhh good tip and crazy story yikes!
Oh no!!
Watching your closet cleanouts is so cathartic. Lots of nice stuff and good job! Will your friend do another cleanout round pre-move?
she's leaving next month! i think she's still sorting through things before leaving xo
She did an amazing job!
I need this 😅 I can’t let things go.. I collect many different things… books, handbags, teddies, the oddest clothing I can find…
I love all your videos but, I love these declutter videos more!! They are super motivating!❤❤
