      Absolutely! I still remember that smell when I was a kid, opening new toys, that fresh from the factory plastic smell...it's probably toxic but I love it 😂

      Yes! And the new BBX should be here soon. Add that one to the list. I'm excited to try the new chassis.

      Thanks Keith, it really is... especially since you can get these kits at Tamico for around 115usd, and they have all the body sets there too. The hop-ups on these chassis are almost necessary if you plan on running them. I love how this feels on the road, really well balanced and nimble. I will never buy a standard tt-02 kit again, unless I need the body that it... 😂

      Yes! It is definitely the better deal for the money. A lot of these hop-ups are necessary for the TT-02 chassis if you plan on driving it a lot. Thanks for watching!

    It is a good looking build, all the blue goodies in there! It does seem like a decent deal overall with all the upgrades included. I don't think I have ever just purchased a chassis kit, I have always gotten them as full builds with the body set included, I might have to get one! It looks great with the Celica body on it!!!

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was my first chassis kit, and I can't imagine doing it any other way now at least with the on road cars. The amount of extras you get make it a bargain. It drives so much different than the standard TT-02...I think all of the upgrades work so well on this one, they aren't just for appearance. Yes the Celica is a perfect body for this. That's the other thing, Tamiya makes so many bodies for the TT-02, so you can make these kits whatever you want.

    Nice kit. TT-02R seems to be the best bang for the buck of all these different chassi kits. Did you use high or low ground clearance?

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They definitely are a bargain if you ask me...if it was in the budget I would get a few more of them and get a few of my favorite body sets. I used low/standard height...if it looks taller, it could be because the tires are slightly taller than the stock racing slicks that come with the kit.

    nice kit, made mine low by inverting the rear uprights, put in oil diffs, front and rear, with 500k weight in the front almost a paste

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, these handle much better with stiff suspension. The TT-02R springs are very stiff. I did use the soft oil, but will probably change it out at some point, it is a little bouncy still. I'll have to look at the upright, I didn't notice that.

      @@eekrc hav a stock tt02, with the friction shocks, actually prefer to see it bounce around, because i dont race, and threw all the upgrades at the R

  • @sgecko7
    @sgecko7 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Got one of these for a spare body I have lying around... it's on its way here. I have a regular TT02 that will become a shelf queen, but it has YeahRacing shocks... now dont know if the ones that come with the TT02R are better 🤔. They are blue also so at least that matches...

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like the oil dampers the R kit comes with, but they aren't anything special other than the springs are a little stiffer than the normal TT-02 hop up shocks. I drive both, and honestly the R shocks keep it planted better. That might be a good experiment, try one set at a time, run it and see what you like better.

    • @sgecko7
      @sgecko7 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The normal TT02 bottomed out with the smallest bumps so I raised it a little by modifying the suspension arms and getting those YR shocks... after using it twice, I just decided to retire it because that body ended up looking kinda nice (the WRX Nurburgring touring car). I will try both shocks when I assemble the TT02R ib a couple of weeks... hopefully the ball joints are the same size... the YR ball screws were a PITA to install lol

    • @sgecko7
      @sgecko7 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Built the it and tested the shocks. The YeahRacing ones worked better IMO... less bouncy. The springs that come with the R dont seem to be harder and I used the piston with 3 holes, so I dont know what makes makes them bouncier.

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sgecko7 Good to know, they are cheaper too. I'm good with the R shocks, I used a little thicker damper oil and for me they aren't bouncy at all. But it's good to know there is another option that works too.

    I have a TT02 kit that I'm going to build as a somewhat rally set up...
    I have bearings and some of the upgrades already for it... trying to decide on shocks, and if I might try a different motor(already have 2 with Torque Tuned motors) ... maybe a Holmes Hobbies 17t Retro Sport?
    For shocks I'm debating the Associated Factory Team shocks for the Apex2 , they're 60mm so should do nicely with the high ride height setup.
    Going to use fluid filled diffs and cva driveshafts.
    Let me know what you think about the shocks and if they'd work ok. Cheers.

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good idea, those are good shocks...I don't know about the mounting hardware needed, hopefully the Tamiya hardware will work with those. I'm not sure about the length or the width also... length should be ok, you can always use some rubber spacers in the shock shafts to limit them if they are too long. Either way it sounds like a fun project!

    • @isaiahfurrow7414
      @isaiahfurrow7414 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They look to have steel pivot balls inside the eyelet on the end of the shaft and I side the cap, so likely could be mounted using just cap head machine screws... and if needed to space them off of where they're mounted a ball stud washer of the needed thickness I think would work between the pivot ball and shock stay... if needed...
      I'm hoping for the slightly linger length to work out, as the car will be set up in high ground clearance mode, but the ground clearance and travel is what I'm after , and I may see about playing with springs some to soften it up amd get some body roll if needed.
      Cheers.

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@isaiahfurrow7414 That might work...you also have to consider the width of the shocks, there isn't a lot of space there so you might have to play with some spacers to prevent anything from rubbing. The rally tires you use might help with ground clearance too.

    Do you think Marine grease would do just as good a job as antiwear grease in the diffs?

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried any marine grease, but I don't think it's as sticky. The reason I use the AWG is I can use very little and get a great result. Most other grease will fling off the gears anyway...the AWG grease doesn't do that.

    • @stumpycatvm7115
      @stumpycatvm7115 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the diffs on this i think are stock, without gasket, so your marine grease i think you would want to be pretty thick, not sure it would matter much, upgraded my tt02r to oil diffs, front,rear

    Do you need glue for the tires, thought about ordering a kit

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't needed glue for the kit ties, I'm only running the stock Torque Tuned motor, and the high speed gear set that is part of the TT-02R. If you go to a high power brushless setup you would need to glue them or the tires would fly off or slip on the rims. Have fun with it if you get one!

    • @eekrc
      @eekrc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Very different lol..."Hop Ups" are just upgraded parts. Tamiya calls them "hop up options". They always come out with parts you can use to upgrade the cars and make them better, faster, more durable. And some are better looking but don't add anything to the performance.
