EASILY my favorite Gym Leader in SwSh. This fight was definitely a challenge since you couldn't Dynamax, but it was a nice change of pace. Not to mention that it's such a badass theme for our first ever Dark type Gym Leader, who is also badass. Almost want to restart my game just to relive this battle without overleveling, which is hard enough with EXP Share always on... that's one of my only complaints about this game... it was TOO easy to level up. **shrug**
Same bro I am replaying sword shield for the 3rd time each just so I can do it without boosted experience or over levelling so it’s actually a challenge.

If you fought Piers without XP Candy Grinding, then congrats, you a real one. Wish we could disable the Exp Share though, that shit *killed* any possible challenge unless you avoided fights.
I had to rely so much on my Raboot for being the only one with a super effective move... double kick. The rest were either normal or weak to his team (Nicket, Eevee, Vulpix, Pikachu, and Yamper)... doesn’t help I was around Hop’s level of Pokémon, meaning I was a bit under leveled... I almost lost the fight I’ll just say that

I'm pretty sure he would've won. Considering the fact that Piers had Raihan on the ropes without using Dynamax proves that Piers would've won if Raihan hadn't Dynamaxed.
Raihan admits to have been nearly defeated by Piers despite the latter not Dynamaxing his pokemon. So if they neither Dynamax their Pokémon, chances are actually pretty high for Piers to win over Raihan.
Zigzagoon and Linoone used to be normal types in omega ruby and alpha sapphire until this game came out for nintendo switch and changed Zigzagoon and Linoone's appearance to dark type, so now it's galarian Zigzagoon, Linoone, and Obstagoon.
Zigzagoon wasn’t introduced in ORAS but ok, also they are still normal type there’s just a new form now that’s dark type. You didn’t have to describe zigzagoon and Linoone’s life story but ok
I love this guy, making you not use what I consider the dumbest battle mechanic out of any Pokémon game. I hate dynamax/gigantamax, I think it's a dollar store Mega Evolution and Z move knock off.
Too bad this game is dogshit easy and I hardly even tried during this fight. (Yes for those wondering I do still like SwSh even tho it has flaws but man this game is way too easy until the very end).
I am ever so glad that this plays even during the tournament. And in sign of respect, I never Dynamax my Pokémon when fighting him.

I did as well, but used Dark types back at him. Had Incineroar and Dark Silvally only to use. Didn't dynamax either.

Then don't grind for EXP? If you're in the slightly above level 44, then you'll be fine. It's what I did.
This makes me wish every gym leader had their own theme
They really should try that one day. The gen 8 theme fits people like Nessa, but not Kabu or Opal
They somewhat did that in BW2. Not by giving the leaders a different battle theme, but by giving them a different gym theme. Which was pretty sweet.
Can we talk about how awesome it is that we had a boss fight against a Gym Leader who couldn't Dynamax and they still put up a challenge?
And later in the story, Raihan mention being nearly defeated by Piers, who didn't Dynamax his pokemon againts him, while the former did.
You've been relying on Dynamaxing for a while at this point, so let's see how well can you do without it against some interesting strategies.

@@Eyeofnelms Or Kommo-o. It's able to learn Aura Sphere, and my team mainly consists of Dragons, so Kommo-o is a good matchup for Dark as well.
Even alongside the Pokemon franchise's high standards for music, this theme is a standout. absolute banger

Sadly there is so key item for the exp share so there's no way to turn those off.

It wouldn’t be fair because if you never fought wild Pokémon and only fought only gym leaders you,would be level 100 by Kabu.
