    Learn how to sublimate dark shirts and cotton with the best substrates for success!
    There is a lot to learn about sublimation, and it doesn't always go smoothly! I've shared tips on how to avoid sublimation mistakes, but sometimes the issue isn't clear right away. Or, blurry in the case of some HTV sublimation shirts I made last year! I started hearing that some of your shirts were blurring after several months, so I checked our shirts and found the same! That made me sad, because I always want you to be happy with your projects and know what to expect. So, I've gone over the old shirts to compare the results over time, and re-tested several ways to sublimate dark shirts and cotton material to update my recommendations.

    I have a love hate relationship with Easy Subli. I have made a bunch of shirts with it. Just a note, the more white you have in your design, the more chance it will look dingy later. I never could get the heat transfer mask to work coincidently enough. I did get a different heat transfer mask from Siser to work, but the Siser heat transfer mask that came with it just never worked for me. I used the Parchment paper trick to put the design on it and then tacked it afterward. I saw a video on YT that showed me how. Just a tip. Try to wash it alone on delicate and don't dry it. It will last a lot longer.

    So everything I am coming across for sub on a dark shirt is to put a vinyl backing down first, which seems to only transfer the color to the vinyl, not the fabric. I don’t like the plastic stiff feel of vinyl, is there a method to sub directly to the fabric of a dark shirt?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can't sublimate directly onto dark fabric as sublimation ink is transparent. 🥰

  • @PaulaTierney

    Thanks for the great videos! I learn so much from them. I don’t understand why you need to use the Siser heat transfer mask. Can you just use the film from the back of the HTV vinyl as your backing?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Siser heat transfer mask is essential because it is specifically designed to handle the high temperatures and pressures involved in the sublimation process. Regular backing films from HTV vinyl are not designed to handle such high temperatures and could potentially damage your materials and tools. The mask helps in properly aligning and adhering the sublimation design to the HTV. It ensures that the design stays in place during the pressing process, which is crucial for achieving a clean and precise transfer.

    I’m confused! I use Siser Easysubli a lot & I don’t understand why you are saying that you use it under sublimation paper design as opposed to printing the design directly onto the Siser Easysubli & then heat press it directly onto the fabric?

    • @dianaspears4569
      @dianaspears4569 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      If printing with an Epson, the ink will not dry completely and will smear if printed directly onto the Easysubli. This is why she print on sub paper and then press onto the Easysubli. If printing with a Sawgrass, you are able to print directly onto the Easysubli.

      I watched another TH-cam video once that showed how to use Siser Glimmer HTV for sublimation. I tried it and the designs blurred within a couple of months. Thankfully, I didn't do too many items with it. I have also found that if you have a big chunky design to that doesn't need a lot of weeding, you really don't need to use the EasiSubli mask. Just place the vinyl on the fabric, cover it with parchment and press according to instructions. Great video, Jennifer!

      If the white names are part of the sublimated design, you'd select white for them as you design the print.
      If the white names are separate from the sublimated design, then cut them from the same vinyl you're sublimating on just to simplify everything.

      It has not been through many washes but to help preserve it here are tips directly from HTVRONT. The cure of HTV will take a while. When the adhesive on the heat transfer vinyl is thermally activated, the adhesive sinks into the fibers of shirts, bags, pants, etc. After application, it takes a while for the adhesive to harden and cool without interruption. If you pick up that shirt and throw it into the washing machine and dryer immediately, the vinyl will most likely peel or crack. www.htvront.com/blogs/beginners-guide-precautions/tips-for-washing-shirts-with-htv-vinyl

      You can do it the same way as this tutorial if you are wanting to sublimate on dark shirts or cotton.

    I was hoping you would touch on the products that blurred, so we would know what to avoid.
