    When I was age 29, 'cross training' (walking, stair climbing and swimming) enabled me to run a 4 hour marathon with just 3 weeks training with no previous running experience.

      Sorry to hear you're dealing with injury! We've got some great ideas for cross training up here on the channel if you'd like to use those. Maybe give our aqua-jogging videos a look since your knees are in pain.

    I was running 6 days per week for a while. However, I started dealing with plantar fasciitis. Last summer in my right foot and this spring in my left foot. Both times, it was bad enough that I missed several weeks of running. I've been back to running for about 3 months now and everything is going very well. I'm running 4 times a week, aqua jogging on 2 of my non-running days, and then strength training. Aqua jogging has been great in that it feels comparable to running, while giving my joints a break. Once it's too cold to keep up aqua jogging, what types of cardio would you recommend? I guess I could invest in a wet suit. But it would be nice to have another option just in case.

    Thanks so much for the video. Great tips! Do you recommend light weights when doing strength training? I have been doing heavy weights and find that it tires me out for my runs. I'm training for Boston and although I want to continue strength training 2-3 days a week, I don't want it to tire me out and thus affect my runs. Appreciate any advice!

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely get a lot out of lifting both light and heavy weights. I sometimes have the same issues but have found that timing is key. If you can help it, don't put strength training and long run days next to each other. Light and heavy weights have different purposes - light at higher volume reps can help get the heart rate up while getting you a little stronger. Heavier will challenge your stability, core and basic postural positions while demanding full engagement from the body and breathing. Play with when you throw these things into your training!

      Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I really appreciate it! I love your channel, it's the best I found as far as running tips. Although I have been working out almost my whole life, I consider myself a newbie to running and have so much to learn. Boston will be my 2nd marathon! I'm learning so much from all of your videos. Please keep up the fantastic work! Thanks again!

    Rope jumping will be consider as to much stress for the legs? I normally do some rope jumping and pull ups, push ups and leg raisers as a cross-training routing.

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We love rope jumping! Make sure your heels hit the ground on each jump so as not to strain the calves, but it's a great exercise!

    awesome tips! will strenght training make me a faster runner? or mostly add to endurance, keeping strong posture after really long time? I am realy looking for something that will propel me into that sub6min/mile ,sub4min/k zone without dying 1 mile in? I do alot of intervals but don't see much progress. thx.

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of a combination of everything you've said! Strength training will improve your posture which will improve the endurance of your form, which will allow you run faster for a lot longer. In other words, when your form breaks down, it's tough to keep your speed up. Does that make sense?
