Hi Not sure if this post is still live but I have a 1961 W121 190B Ponton AND a 1964 W110 Fintail. Both their oil pressures go straight to max (45) when started, and don’t drop until turned off. I’d be suspicious if it was only 1 car doing this but it’s both (they have the same engine) Any help or feedback appreciated as to whether this is normal. Keep up the great work
r129 has no reading at idle or acceleration could it be the fuel pressure sender i know they need power off 2 fuses do i havent change anything any clues about there dash design 1992 500sl
Hello Pierre, is there a good way to repair a leaking gauge or is there a place you send these to be repaired? Or do you just have to replace the leaking unit with a good used one at this point?
Hey Pierre ,, what about diesel fuel quality in the USA ,, B5 vs B20 especially for classic diesels with mechanical fuel delivery like the OM, ,617 , 603 series , 606 series -up to 1995
Hey Pierre, I recently changed my sending unit . And originally after changing the part I put a little too much oil in after replacing. I drained excess oil. And continued to test my new sending unit. On cold startup it pegs 3 . When the vehicle is off the gauge reads zero. So all good in that regard. However, after the warm up period my oil pressure does not drop when coming to a complete stop. It stays at 3 driving. But when at a stop it drops about 1/8th in below the 3 mark on the gauge. At its current high idle at 1000 in drive. As soon as I press the acceleration it’s back to pegged at 3. Any clues as to why my gauge doesn’t drop at idle ?
Thanks for your videos I just purchased a 1991 300e The Oil pressure gauge was not working I made a down payment. It appears when the engine is warm there’s no reading no oil pressure. this morning when we started it up it went to three bars almost right after starting, after 10 minutes Back to zero. Excelerator to 300 RPM I get One bar but it doesn’t stay steady, when you go back to idle speed it goes to zero. ??? From your videos it sound like I have a real big problem. At first I thought it was just a poor connection from the sensor but after further investigation it appears I have a fluctuating oil pressure that goes from zero and stays at zero when you’re driving The majority of the time this would indicate a serious problem not having a consistent oil pressure? any advice would be grateful.
Hello garry, did you manage to solve your problem? The same thing happens to me in my m103 when the heat drops to 0.5 and cannot rise more than 1 while running, change the oil pump with a new one and it remains the same.
I have w201 1992 so my oi pressure indicator always on 3 its only go down when i shutting of the car it go to 0 so in this case is it sensor problem or gauge. Sorry for my bad English i hope that you understand what i mean
Pierre...love the channel...my question is this....my 1992 300e has had the dash console oil pressure needle slowly going down to 0, no bars...and just stays at 0 now. Is the sender kaput?....like to get the op needle back to where is normally is. Thanks. Replace the sender off the engine, replace gauge...? or something else. I run 10w30 or 40...car has 17 2K
thanks for the video. I have problem with my w123 200 the fuel gauge is dropping once I start driving, and it started when my turn signal started to blink so fast. So what can be the problem and how can i DIY
Thabo, check the printed circuit of your instrument cluster and the cluster ground. run an auxiliary ground from the metal tab on the BACK OF THE CLUSTER and see if that fixes the issue
Thank you for the video. I have a mercedes w124..when it is warm idle the oil pressure is about 2 bars and when i go on it reaches about 3 bars..is that normal???

Hello, i have 126, when i drive under 1000 rpm presure never drops under 2, is it normal, when i put Drive its stays 2 but when i pit neutral its jumps to 2,5-2,8
The hollow tube is called a Bourden Tube. My car shows in Psi instead of Bar. I guess 3 bar is equal to 44.1 psi and I am topped out at 45 psi while driving so seems like its Ok.
Hello Pierre, Quick question. I just a got a 1982 240D, I have been inspecting it part by part. I have a question regarding the oil filter. There is a little pipe going through it. Is this little pipe supposed to be plugged or does this mean its dirty? Thanks!
hye, is it normal when i rev the car during idle, the oil pressure gauge moves up and down? and also sometimes work and sometimes dont, what could it be?? thanks

Pierre hello. My W123 300D oil pressure when on idle sometimes sits on 2.2 to 2.5 bar. This is even after a hiway run and engine is alreadt hot. I was thinking maybe becausd i used a thicker 15w-50 diesel engine oil since last year. Previously i just used 15w-40 diesel engine oil. I'm from the Philippines where climate is generally tropical / hot. Thank you.
Thanks for replying. When i accelerate no problem i hit 3bar as the car should. My 300D does not have an RPM gauge but i would say yes i hit 1,500 or 1,550 RPM as you recommend. To clarify, the 2.2 to 2.5bar oil pressure i see only when i'm at a stop. I'm used to see it at 2bar only, but i was thinking the thicker oil had something to do with it sitting at 2.5bar at a stop.
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 Thank you for the fast reply. Before i start the car it is stuck on 0.75, it doesn't go to 0 at all. Here's what i have at the moment with the oil gauge. Car not started = 0.75 Cold Idle is at 2 Warmed up idle is at 2 Driving = 3 I was thinking because i have a front crank seal leaking it may be causing the issue. It's an odd thing and only has been doing this the last 5 weeks.
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 okay, thank you :) I've subscribed. It's so nice to get a reply to a question and even a follow up. Thank you :) I'll definately be sending some money your way if i have something a bit more involved to ask further down the line. Oh, could you do a video on the front crank seal of the W123 300D and how to replace it properly without having the new one leak as well. I made a short video series on the ordeal from start to finish. th-cam.com/video/CQijPtwJyBM/w-d-xo.html

does the idle adjustment also effect the oil pressure?

Have you ever converted the mechanical oil pressure gauge to electric on a Mercedes 240d?

i suspect you have a fast idle. Try to set your idle speed to where the oil pressure is around 2 bar.
is your idle control knob turned all the way to the left?
I think my idel control knob is actually busted 😅
I get 2 when i start the car, but when i drive down the road it goes up to 3. any idea what's wrong ? :( 1983 mercedes benz 300D turbo
if it is cold....then your oil thermostat might be stuck open. if it is warm, then nothing is wrong
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 Thank you for the fast reply.
Before i start the car it is stuck on 0.75, it doesn't go to 0 at all.
Here's what i have at the moment with the oil gauge.
Car not started = 0.75
Cold Idle is at 2
Warmed up idle is at 2
Driving = 3

I got 1979 300D, oil pressure is on one bar. What cost this?
oil pressure at idle, or at 1500 rpm? you likely have thin oil in it, unless the oil pump is broken. is the engine making any weird noises?
oil pressure is no indicator for good / bad lubrication..
that's correct
