Well that would depend on the speed of the aircraft! From experience I know it will work relatively well up to around 110-120km/h, after that the air speed would start to affect its operation.
I cant get the radio to control the pan and tilt.. for some odd reason only roll responds even with the 3way mode selector switch set up. Any chance you can do a video tutorial on setting this gimbal up with rc axis control ?
I will have to look into the manual of this gimbal, have not used it in a while! I do remember there was some issue with that... at this point I am wondering if that was even possible... will have to look into it!
Does this gimbal have a mode that can follow orientation of vehicle movement and also have manual control of pan and tilt? I believe the Mini3D couldn't do both and am wondering if this has been fixed? I want to use one of these for fpv on a rc truck and be able to pan and tilt while driving it.
You can pan and tilt in one of the modes, but it is a heading lock mode, so it will not follow the model's movements, but will remain locked in the direction you leave it in! Sadly no mode like what you are looking for here either! That is probably the only drawback of this gimbal!
Yes, big drawback indeed. Otherwise I'd buy one immediately. It seems it would be possible for them to provide firmware to add a mode 4 (like mode 2 but with full pan/tilt control) because all the capabilities exist already. Just not in the right combination for my application. I guess I'll have to wait, bummer :(
I wouldn't hold my breath on this actually! This gimbal has been out for a while, and they haven't... at least not to my knowledge, released an update for that! Perhaps if you send an inquiry to FY to ask about this... perhaps they can give you a more accurate information whether you should wait or try to find something else.
This is what I've used last, and what was on the Crosswind Pro, and it seems to be working quite well, though you don't have the unlimited 360 degree rotation! bit.ly/T3D-gimbal
This review was sorely needed! I've had my pro for a while and it's made great flights epic. I even get questions on what kind of DJI product I used :) One amazing thing of this gimbal is that it's zero configuration to place upside down (right side up??) on a plane. I bought a Tarot Flir gimbal assuming it would be the same, but was shocked to see my $400 wasted as it would not go right side up. I took a mini3d (not pro) and simply designed a 3D printed part to take the flir and et voila!
Hahaha, don't know about Tarot, I've never found a liking for their gimbals. For a long time I was playing around with DIY gimbals and wasted a lot of time tuning controllers... to almost no effect! At some point I just got fed up with this and got some FeiYu Tech gimbals... and all my problems went away in a manner of seconds! :) They support is also spot on!
Hey...!!!! I know perfectly this may be a really stupid question to ask, but Honestly I don't have nothing to lose asking!!! But would you consider to sell this gimball?? I mean I have a really brutally bad luck with gimbals.. only defective ones I have manage to get.. and since this exact particular models and product is no longer available... "You probably have a few other ones much better than this... so please let me know...
Actually... makes no difference even if it fits, because this gimbal is not manufactured anymore, you can't buy it anywhere... unless you find one second hand! As for head tracker... in some of the operating modes it might be possible... but it will reacting slowly to commands, not as quick as a servo!
@@mauldek9352 Otherwise, the camera is as tall as a GoPro 3 or 4, but a bit wider, so as long as you don't have a width limit on a GoPro gimbal, it should fit with little modifications!
If you can get it working with the head tracker... it should be OK! It will never more as fast as a servo gimbal, but as long as you keep this in mind... you should be OK! At this time I really can't say how it will handle with a head tracker... so just try it, and let me know! :)
Hi Arxangel, I do not have any spare channels in my receiver for mode selection.. I have 2 spare channels for pan and tilt only.... Is it possible to have the Pan/Tilt mode always on by default when I power this thing?
Not that I know of... but keep in mind that the pan/tilt mode is also a heading lock mode! The gimbal will keep the direction you move it to, and will not move along the pan axis with the model! You can actually put a small servo tester on board, connected to the modes wire on the gimbal, and have that stay in the position which enables the pan/tilt mode!
Yes, sadly they are discontinued! Closest option that is still in production is this one: goo.gl/qNpwfr I've been quite happy with this one... works very well, though doesn't have the unlimited 360 degree rotation sadly! But it does have a better damping system!
ArxangelRC that tarot gimbal is horrible. Wish they didn’t discontinue FT3d pro that sucks. Guess no one really is buying them anymore like they where a few years ago. I can find anything that has 360 degree turning for cam options in front of my Mini Talon. I’m at the point of just slapping a gitupF1 with EIS on it and just call it a day.
It is not horrible! I had one on the MFD Crosswind, and it was working pretty darn impressive! Also, the damping system seemed to work better than the one on the Mini 3D Pro.
Sadly I have not had any experience with this one as I have always considered it to be just a tad too expensive, but from what I can see in the reviews people seem to like it a lot, and as far as I've seen it has pretty stable roll during YAW movement, which is good if you are looking for that! :) I would say both gimbals are very good and worth their money, you just have to decide what you will be using it for and which one do you like more.
ArxangelRC I was under the same impression as you are, but now the Z1-Tiny2 can be found at $220, which is the same price as the mini3d pro, I rather take the Z1-Tiny2..
I don't see why not. The camera looks like it is the GoPro size and style, so it should fit. Depending on the camera's weight distribution, you may need to add some balancing weight to one side of the gimbal or the other, like I have done! :)
Hi friend! I contacted Vivian from X-UAV (vivian@x-uav.cn) and she sent to me a pricelist X UAV model planes... I saw that have 2 Clouds models... One is "Clouds Survey Version". This costs US$ 170.00 and other version "Clouds FPV Version", costs US$ 155.00. I read the both specifications and I couldn't to see differences... Material, wingspan, lenght and WingArea are same. Do you know what are "diferences" between 2 models? Thanks
I think the difference was that in the FPV version the pieces that hold the spar in the fuselage and provide hooks for the parachute are wooden, in the survey version they are carbon fibre. :)
Yeah, I've noticed something like that from time to time, but it appears to align itself properly after a few seconds. And besides... 2 degrees really doesn't bother me all that much! :)
Yes, understand, thank you, my mode of locking the heading axis has always been 2 degrees off the heading axis, so try to return to the factory for correction.
ArxangelRC Hi ya. Sorry, my mistake. When I've looked again it does say discontinued, didn't see that bit 😒. I have been looking at the Feiyu WG2 3-Axis IP67. However as of yet I've not seen it fitted to a plane. Reviews read ok and it's waterproof and has continuous 360 rotation. Comes in at, size116x108.85x245mm Weight 265g max payload 130g. Would you happen to know anything about this one?
I do have a video on the first version of the WG... works fine, but there are some issues... there is no damping plate, which does have an effect, and also there is no way to control the gimbal while flying, but you can have the video out, so you can at least see what it sees!
Really impressive video and good review, I loved the end. I'm struggling so hard deciding between this one and the tarot 3d III gimbal, I need the 360º panning capabilities since I will be using it in a fast quadcopter for following cars etc but in a mid-tight budget this one is 100$ more (double the price of the Tarot III) for just the full yaw control vs the 330º of the tarot ...
Hmmm... does the Tarot have a video out for the camera from the gimbal itself, or do you have to wire in a separate cable? If you are on a tight budget go for the Tarot... but check some reviews to see if it works well! The FeiYu may be a more expensive, but I'd go for it every time because it just delivers... and that unlimited 360 is simply amazing!
You are welcome! Last night I finished installing this gimbal (goo.gl/qNpwfr) on the MFD Crosswind... will fly with it today or tomorrow! Seems to be working quite well on the ground, and does look quite a bit like the FeiYu tech gimbals.. . I hope Tarot have copied the operation as well as the looks! :)
@@lllColbylll Hey, sadly this gimbal is no longer in production, and most retailers have now removed it from their websites! :( A good alternative is the Tarot gimbal (goo.gl/qNpwfr), but sadly no unlimited 360 rotation! You just flip the gimbal upside down, and move the roll motor to the opposite side, then you insert the camera. I think it is described in the manual as well! :)
Is Feiyu Tech Mini3D Pro gimbal your favourite gimbal? How would you compare it to Zhiyun Z1 Tiny 2 3-Axis Aerial Gimbal (which is a discontinued product I believe)? I am in need of a gimbal to be mounted (inverted) on the bottom of the fuselage of my RC plane, and I am struggling to make up my mind between the Mini3D Pro and Tiny 2. Any suggestions (btw the price difference is not a deciding factor)? Much appreciate your time and recommendation.
Well... yes, it is... mainly because it was the only one available when I got it, and at the time it was also cheaper than the Z1! Actually the Mini3D Pro is also out of production, although this guys has it listed: goo.gl/qQzsnP and I still can't understand why these manufacturers stopped making them, since now we seriously need a solution for mounting inverted on planes! I guess there is an argument for using the wearable gimbals (goo.gl/bHkf75), but you can't control their pitch and yaw, you can only look through them, and the dampers that they lack do make a difference!
Thank you ArxangelRC. It's great what you're doing with these reviews - apppreciated. Btw I need some stuff for my new quad-plane build, and I'm definitely going to buy them off you.
This is so disappointing. There are no more gimbals like the Mini3D Pro anymore? I need one for a MTD build. Do you have any suggestions for something similar? I guess we're back to using the Martinez DIY methods again?
Yeah... for some reason these have been going away... not sure why... they are super useful on planes, even if DJI has taken over the camera drone market!
Hard to say... these types of gimbals seem to be disappearing! DJI took that business away because nobody is building Phantom sized drones for gimbals anymore... and nobody is thinking of us plane users! :)
