    Beautiful, I've just acquired a 1976 GT500 I rescued from a hedge on a farm, it's in a sorry state tho, parts prices are crazy for T/GT 500 parts,

    Subscribed from Australia. I have two of these. Both deceased estates. Hardly ridden and well stored. Bought a few years ago for British quid of around 800 each? Absolutely never ridden in the wet and no corrosion at all. Paint is solid and mint. Never dropped. Not a blemish. Even engines etc just passed the acid test of perfection. I'm asking 40,000 quid for the pair.

    The epitome of the half-litre stroker done simple: 2 cylinders, no funky valves or liquid cooling, very quick and some vestige of handling on decent rubber! 👍

    Another one of my favourite bikes. Love the T500. It was the first most successful big bore 2 stroke twin at the time of its launch.

    WOW! Talk about journeying back in time (for me)! I spent many a Saturday queuing up the stairs at BG England to see "Jock" to buy spares and stuff. He was a gruff old fella but gave you his complete attention until you had finished your transaction then completely cut you off to serve the next customer. My mate went up there to enquire about a problem with his Bantam handling, Jock disappeared out the back and came back with a brand new BSA Bantam swinging arm to try to identify where the problem might be! I eventually bought a new MZ TS125 from them in 1985, but my favourite from my earlier biking days was a new T500M I bought from Coburn & Hughes, HBH 482N, in 1975; the last T500 before the GT500 disc braked model was introduced.

      Great stuff…yes I remember Jock very well, disappearing out the back to get the parts you wanted mumbling to himself…
      Thanks for the good comment 👍

    Love these old two stroke Suzukis. My bet is you go crazy and do a nut and bolt restore job on it.

    Love this new project sir. £180 was a fair bit of coin back in 1979 though!

      Yeah true but I do remember people having more repairs done beck then.
      I'm sure parts were more affordable 🙂

      @@mcmechanic864 I remember having to get the crank rebuilt on my 350LC back in 1982 when the oil pump failed. It was £250 I still have the receipt. It was a lot of dough for my wage as a Saturday boy at Curry’s electrical shop

      @@patrickhostler5939 That was expensive. I had the crank done on my YDS7 only 2 or 3 years ago and that was the same money. Perhaps you had to have a new crank web or something 🤔 that can make it quite a bit more expensive

      @@mcmechanic864 … I’ll try and dig out the receipt. I had only had the bike a few months… paid £750 for the whole bike I remember. I fixed it all up, sold it to a chap who used to fill up at the esso petrol station I worked at in the evenings and bought a YPVS… superb bike…

    It’s a tricky one. On the one hand it’s present condition and colour scheme clearly holds a lot of memories… but the restorer in you wants to strip it and give it a thorough going over! Perhaps a bodywork respray to the correct hue and graphics… then as sympathetic a doing up as possible?

    • @mcmechanic864
      @mcmechanic864  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes.. problem is if I get the tank re-sprayed it will look really good and then I'll need to do the rest of the bike to match 🤔😂

    Wouldn’t take much to get it to sparkle, manly labour cleaning & polishing, depends on your budget. The engine would pop if it was Vapour blasted.
