  • Welcome to Poygan Outdoors! In this video, I go over the issues I was having with my 550xp not oiling, what I tested and then a complete tear down and rebuild for replacing the oil pump and worm gear. I hope this helps you out!

    Pull the plug and stuff some clean rope in cylinder to make clutch removal easier.

    I have same saw, it's been my experience Husqvarna's has weak oil pumps and start lot harder then Stihl.....
    I take it you didn't have compressed air, makes saw work lot easier. That rim sprocket should've of also been replaced, chain turns lot better with new rim, good video.........

    You really should have put some grease on the needle bearing before reassembly. It has to be done if you don't want to wear it out.

      It would have been better to perfectly lubricate the bearing when you had it in hand but there's a hole for lubrication without disassembly on the axle in the center of the clutch. This requires a grease gun. The lubrication of the bearing is clearly recommended in the user manual. 😉

    Do you still have this little saw and are ya happy with it? I bought one that needed a piston and I'm rebuilding it to be a small firewood saw. I'm waiting on a gasket to finish my assembly. I'm usually a stihl guy and I'm inexperienced with husqvarna.

      Hi! Yes I do still use this saw (as you will see in a couple videos in the near future 😊). I am very happy with this saw, but I upgraded to it from a poulan home owners saw. So any professional saw would be an upgraded haha. I am not sure how much wood you cut, but I do about 100 to 150 1/3 cords a year. Cutting that amount of wood, I would like to upgrade from the 550 to a 572 for the additional ccs and longer bar. However, the 550 is a great light saw with good power to have around. I'm not familiar enough with stihl to give a good argument for one over the other. I went the Husqvarna route mainly because of the maintenance and repair aspect. I heard that it is harder, or impossible, to fix a stihl saw on your own because of getting parts. One would likely have to take it in to a dealer to have repairs. This was total hearsay, and you probably know way better than me since you usually run stihls on the validity of this. But with being a hands-on guy, I wanted to be able to order the parts I need and work on my saw. In the end, I think both brands are great, and I would be happy going either route! I just happened to choose Husqvarna haha. Have you had any issues with getting parts for your stihls?

      @@poyganoutdoors6406 Thanks,yeah I've had a couple plans when we first bought our home in 2005. I bought 2 stihls around 2010,a farm and ranch saw and an ms441c which is a 70cc pro saw. Both of them are easy to work on and you can either get genuine parts from stihl dealers or the aftermarket. I've never had to buy anything majir,just maintenance stuff. I've only got 1 husqvarna dealer in my area and hes real big on sales,but not so much in service. My stihls cut great,but especially the 70cc saw with a 28" bar will wear you out using for hours on end. The piston and stuff I've bought for the husqvarna I had to order from a logging supplier because my local dealer said he would have it put on backorder. He said it's taking him like 10 weeks to get parts. All I'm waiting on is a new cylinder gasket now. I think I'll like it if I can get it running. It's a real nice feeling saw.

      That is good news on being able to get parts on both the Stihls and the Husqvarnas. I think you will like the 550 once you get it up and running. Definitely does not wear you out. I usually cut 4 to 8 hours a day when I'm cutting and my back is usually tired before my arms are haha. Take care!

    You didn't grease the clutch bearing so I would take it back apart and grease it.
    Wood chips getting into the oil pump gears caused the pump to jam up and strip the gears. This should be cleaned more often.

      @poyganoutdoors6406  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah another guy mentioned that, and honestly I didn't know that was a thing until he said something. I do grease it from the hole on the clutch which isn't as good. I have around 200 facecords through it since this video, and it seems to be holding up fine. Take care!

      @@poyganoutdoors6406 ... Not sure how you are greasing it through a hole but it only takes a min to grease it.
      I pull the spark plug and feed a 1/4" thick nylon rope into the cylinder with the piston down, Once the cylinder is full ,pull on the cord lightly .
      This holds the clutch without damage to the piston. Remove the clutch, grease bearing. screw the clutch back on and give it a tap or two , the engine will tighten it..Done
