    Not much experience with jerk baits but I get laughed at alot for fishing my sq bills on spinning set up, I'm so much more accurate and stuff with spinning set up with the smaller square bills and that's why I use them and listening to your reasons, I need to jump over and practice on jerk baits! Wow, you hit the action that I've always tried to use for jerkbaits. My favorite is a ripplin red fin. Yeah it's old school, BUT, I've caught a LOT of fish on it here in north Texas (7.2 from lake Athens, in the late fall....my biggest on a jerkbait). There's something about that "pause " in between jerks that really sets them off! Great vid Randy! You really nailed this time!!

      Dont fish scared! 6 pound is the way to go. You do not have to set the hook hard at all, if I feel the fish pull, , usually they are hooked- and jerking the bait hard in that situation is not gonna hook them magically. 3 good trebles? I never jerk them hard, just a steadily forceful pull and Ive got em, and they do not break off!

    Hey Randy. I have used a 703 Medium fast action Dobyns Sierra Spinning rod for my Megabass jerkbait and one problem that I think I’m having is that the lure feels too heavy for the rod. Am I wrong on this? By the way, I haven’t lost a single fish on a Megabass jerkbait yet and my biggest fish that came on it was a nice striper, which was on the 110 silent Ghost Tiger.

    I have great success in east Texas throwing 110s on a baitcaster with 17lb fluoro. Every cast is a chance to hook into a double digit and I’m just not comfortable throwing such light line. I def will be throwing it on 15 tatsu on an aldebaran paired with an orochi flatside special. I think that rod is why I have such a high hookup ratio. This video isn’t falling on deaf ears I’m gonna give it a go on a spinning setup with 8 but it’ll take some time to gain confidence in that.

    I can't lie Randy, I use 12# line with the Megabass Katana with a baitcast reel with a soft-moderate tip 7,2 MH rod. My theory is that if I get a good hookset on the fish initially, then I can let my drag and the soft tip of the rod do what it's supposed to do. Lol

    Randy, thank you for these videos. I'm super technical when I start a technique and you explain things very well. I'm a kayaker and all rods translate to my vessel, we don't need specialized rod lengths. That being said the Destroyer 110 absolutely destroyed my elbow lol. What rod would you suggest for 110s and plus ones? Budget doesn't matter really. If it's $40 $400 and good I'll take it lol. Thanks again.

    Do you use mono for jerkbaits?

    • @mikegiles5162
      @mikegiles5162 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mono floats and will keep your jerkbait from getting that "nose down" action on the pause, as well as keep it from achieving maximum depth

    • @mr.larsen202
      @mr.larsen202 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was curious because people used mono before fluorocarbon became so popular. I would think mono would also help keep the fish pinned better.

    • @Peacesells1
      @Peacesells1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keeping the fish pinned is about the rod more than the line

    • @mikegiles5162
      @mikegiles5162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can make up for some of that with mono but its minimal. Most of it is in your rod, and going to a softer rod will increase the fish you hook and land 10x

    Why a graphite rod vs glass like most use for treble hook crankbaits?

    • @murphroberts4891
      @murphroberts4891 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Graphite is great for feeling subtle little bumps and changes in what the bait is doing. The problem is that graphite rods are so much more stout and quick that its too easy to rip crankbaits/jerkbaits and other fast moving (reaction) baits out of the mouth of a bass. You may be convinced the fish are missing the bait but, more likely, you're pulling the bait away from the fish.
      Thirty years ago, David Fritts tried to tell people they were too fast on the trigger with graphite rods and he was met with a lot of resistance. When his first (Fenwick) series of Crankshaft rods came along, suddenly people (myself, included) were getting more fish into the boat because the rods were slower, softer and more forgiving.
      I like graphite rods but there's a learning curve.
