Such an incredible couple days man, but that last day was the icing on the cake! Can't wait for our next adventure together. I hope the Rock Lander series is a great success for you!
Hey Brad, I’m a huge fan and thank you for what y’all do. It looks like ur jk was loosing a bit of down travel on the front left when u lifted a tire, but in other areas, u had plenty of flex🤷. Y’all are so awesome, Ty.
Huge thanks to Brad @trailrecon and ONX! Enjoy the video and check out the rock lander route website to download the ONX folder with all the details 🤘.
You are still by far my favorite off road story teller! Keep up the awesome work man! I hope some day I can build up my rig enough to hit a trail with you.
I am so proud of you both for not only coining the phrase "Rock landing" but also starting a legacy that will feed the adventurous spirit of future generations!
NorCal route! Im in! hopefully I’ll have my truck finished and the bugs worked out to run the route. Im excited to see where it goes. Great idea Nate im thinking this will become a pretty popular thing in the future and thankfully I just so happen to be building a rig just for these types of trails. This is exactly the thing I want to do.
For a year or so I have felt that my wife and I don't fit in the overland crowed. I was thinking more on the lines of extreme overlander. Rocklander is perfect. I think you are officially creating something many of us have been looking for. Great work.
We did a majority of this trip in 2019 as the first installment of our Wheeling Across America series. Epic views, killer rock crawling, and just an overall great time. Great video & thanks for sharing!
Dude yes!!!! I love it. Literally what I built my rig for, not super extreme buggy lines but to crawl and camp out of. The rock lander wasn’t even a thing until now!!!!!! Feel like you took my imagination and made it into reality!!! Can’t wait to watch this full video!!!!
@ Nate, winching is a part of offroading, there's nothing wrong with drawing line. You should be encouraging it, matter of fact, you being an influencer on this platform should be showing others how to do it correctly, when and where. Thanks to you and Brad for sharing this adventure with us.
Dude... I'm basically Mr. winch lol. Although I would have to fight Kelly @muddybeards for that title! We both winch a ton. No pride here in muddy Washington when it comes to recovery 🤘
Love seeing you and Brad getting together. You guys have great chemistry. Would love to see trail recon and overlndx up in the Washington mountains for some snowverlanding too. It’s wild that Cali trees seem to give Washington trees a run for their money. I love watching you work on these rigs but it’s great to see you getting out more and doing trips. When are you thinking of changing the Taco gearing?
We definitely missed Marco on this trip! As for the gearing, I'm as low as I can go with the axles in the Tacoma (5.39). But the portal boxes will drop the gearing another 22%. If that's not enough I will have to break down and get a doubler in front of this T-case 😁.
Nice work Bro. Saw Brad’s story last night on my way from Anza Borrego. I was hoping yours would drop today. I’m definitely going to have to go with portals on my Toyota. Look forward to seeing more about that. Too bad you didn’t add Valley of the Moon to the list. It has the most scenic trails with some serious lines and wild horses. 👍
My 2 favorite offroad people. All you are missing is Marco. LOL. Would luv to meet up with you both someday and follow you through one of these adventures. I watched Brad's video too and together you guys make me want to go right now and start an adventure!
Hey! I just wanted to say thanks for not going around that big tree on Holcomb. Sincerely! The group that I volunteer with has adopted Holcomb for nearly 20 yrs and we're hoping to get that tree out of there before people start going around it. You rock, man! ✌️ gotta go back and watch the rest of your video! Lotta water on the gatekeeper this early in the season. I wish we could have been out there with you! We could have taken you out and back down another route via 2NO6x that would have spilled you back onto Holcomb. Next time!
I grew up in Central Washington and know many roads in all four directions, I could go from mountains high to desert low in the same day, sand dunes to snow. If your ever there please let me know, would love to meet you and talk about some of those routes to even maybe better the travel including some of those BDR routes. Thanks for the great videos and can't wait for this series like the BDR ones last year. Regards.
You guys were in my backyard. You missed some good trails, dishpan and John bull for hardcore, calico for scenic plus tough, Miller jeep trail, and some good trails in red rock. Nice show, we need more rock routes... Happy trails guys
Awesome video Nate! Bull frog is such a great trail. It was awesome wheeling that with you. Messing up the side of my Jeep still stings (yeah that was my JK) but thanks for the compliment on my Jeep and yes it was still a great day full of good memories. Look forward to wheeling with you again.
"Rocklander" FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!! That describes MY type of wheeling PERFECTLY!! I love getting off the pavement and running roads and trails like you would find in Colorado...which I consider "Overlanding" for the most part.....but I also LOVE to jump in the technical stuff and scrub the underbelly a bit as well. "Rock Crawler" is a bit limiting for my likes, as is "Overlander".....however the term "Rocklander" simply makes me smile. It FITS!!
Wow you were really lucky to come down just after a blizzard! Those mountains don't stay snow-covered for long, but it's a critical part of the ecology
Truckhaven is a great 4x4 park. Tierra Del Sol -TDS is held right there every year. Some great trails right there too. Took my mirror off at pinion in a Jeep XJ. Possible to get thru with no damage but one slip and that’s it lol.
This is such an awesome thing that you are doing & cannot wait to see how it all unfolds for you & others who want to run the routes, ourselves included. @Trailrecon should check out the oracle flush mount taillights for the JKs. I have been lucky & never hit mine on anything. But those flush mount lights are still pretty cool & the back up lights sometimes feel brighter than the sun LOL
YES!! Been waiting for this man! I’ve always built my rigs for this type of wheeling and it’s exactly what my 80 is built for. Looking forward to upcoming routes!! (Washington…Idaho…?) Also, I’m shocked that valve cover fix worked!
Great video Nate, I subscribe on both of you and Brad. I learned Max and you are planning to overlanding and wheeling soon. Excited to watch the video..
Really awesome video Nate! I was super engaged the whole time. The editing was awesome! Top quality! This is something I’ve been wanting to see come out of your channel! And it was a bonus we could see brad put the Jk to the test after the build finally and put it on some real rocks. Hoping to see some more videos like this, great job!
I loved everything about this. I love the Rocklander concept and that you're out creating the routes, Nate. I love seeing Brad out doing some rock crawling. I love that there was just enough problems to make it a challenge but not ruin a trip. Great videos, both of you. I can't wait to head out West and do this route!
This was a fun video to watch. Loved seeing how your Toyota did with Method Race Wheels with the next generation Bead Lock Technology . I have the same wheels on my JKU.
Nate, this is awesome. I literally bought a project truck with this sort of adventuring in mind. I haven't done much actual off-roading, mostly just hunting, camping, and fishing stuff, but I love exploring and seeing new places. Bought a couple of stickers off the website hope it helps a little. And hopefully you are able to get a route up here in our (WA) neck of the woods someday.
This looks awesome! Looking forward to tackling it one day and seeing what other routes you come out with. Maybe a PNW one…I may be a little biased with that being closer to me! Such a great idea, love it!
i did holcomb creek not too long ago with my taco on 33s. had to get winched through only one spot. good driver experience and good spotters will get you a long ways. hopefully gonna get 35s on it soon.
About your tacoma build. The getting beached on rocks is so real. I see it all the time up here in CO with peoples Quad cabs. That is why I love my 83 toyota, 129 wb and 89 inches wide, that is full sized to me lol. Almost 2 ft of body clearence bone stock. 103 wb and 70 wide including 4 inches of spacer per axle. Even my 92 extra cab toyota crawler is "Big" for me at 112 wb and 75 wide with 38x13r15,
For many years, I’ve been rocklanding and calling it that too. I’ve refused to be an overlander. I been rock-crawling and camping out of the rig for 20 years. It’s funny that it has become an actual term.
I love the stuff you do for the offroad community. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into these videos and it shows. Do you plan to do a route of the north east? New england has some great rock trails, definitely not as scenic as cali but still great fun.
Your wheeling in my back yard there in cougar buttes , a lot of trails .John Muir , rattle snake canyon the list goes on big bear , looks like you went real close to pioneer town . Not to mention the awsome hammmers .
@trailrecon Brad, how is the performance of that stubby antenna for your (rugged radio)? Does it perform as well as a whip that extends above the roofline?
Watching that van launch over those ruts on the hillclimb was highly entertaining - Both those van drivers had some serious cajones (and skill) to tackle that in those rigs. Rocklander routes seem like a great idea! Fairly new to your channel but enjoying it very much - with one exception. Your camera takes great quality video most of the time, but the motion when you're moving around and the focusing issues make me seasick - I personally would enjoy the videos a bit more with better image stabilization and increased depth of focus, even if that comes at the expense of overall image quality. Don't want to be a whiner, but thought I'd mention it in case the feedback is helpful.
I have spent a ton of time in ocotillo. Truckhaven is fun. Id love it if Brad would set up some rides. Great vid guys. Nate aren’t portals gonna be even wider?
Removing the wheel adapters and using the right offset wheels (which I already bought) compensates for the extra width 🤘. The wheel adapters are 2" and the new wheels bring the centerline of the tire in about 1.5". The biggest challenge will be cutting everything to fit the new nitto 40" trail grapplers lol
What a great adventure, and a great idea. I've done WABDR, but it's mostly forest service roads. Something a little more adventurous would be fun. Glad there are bypasses on your route for my beloved stock JKU... which I stubbornly refuse to lift!
So rad guy guys put this together and as an aside…. I really dig the JK/Taco pairing a ton. I’ve got a JKU on 40’s and I’m getting ready to start a Tacoma project so, seeing how the two compare when built up is awesome.
Things just keep getting better 🎉 Great video again Nate. Love the great vibes you and Brad put out here. Keep them videos coming, and soon you’ll be at that projected 1m subs 😂
Such an incredible couple days man, but that last day was the icing on the cake! Can't wait for our next adventure together. I hope the Rock Lander series is a great success for you!
Rodriguez canyon was no Joke! I look forward to the next one my friend 🙌
Hey Brad, I’m a huge fan and thank you for what y’all do. It looks like ur jk was loosing a bit of down travel on the front left when u lifted a tire, but in other areas, u had plenty of flex🤷. Y’all are so awesome, Ty.
It was cool watching both videos and see the different perspectives in same trip.
Not just any old vans.....John from Agile Offroad is a legend.
Huge thanks to Brad @trailrecon and ONX! Enjoy the video and check out the rock lander route website to download the ONX folder with all the details 🤘.
How do you get the drone shots when you’re driving and alone?
Very cool
You are putting out some of the best off road and fab content on YT right now. Keep it up!!!
@Baltimorons762 wow! Thank you!
Love seeing Brad rock crawling and breaking stuff with a smile on his face.
You are still by far my favorite off road story teller! Keep up the awesome work man! I hope some day I can build up my rig enough to hit a trail with you.
Thank you 🙏 I'm so honored
Thanks for taking us along on this trip, dude. It was cool and the cinematography and narration is on point as always. Cheers!
Much appreciated!
4x4 and vans. Like a pack of rhinos and elephants running together in the wild, that was epic 🥲
I am so proud of you both for not only coining the phrase "Rock landing" but also starting a legacy that will feed the adventurous spirit of future generations!
NIce, Nate We Can't wait for Summer to do North Cal Route! Keep up the Great Work!
I just sent an email your way 🤘. I look forward to developing the norcal route! It's going to be epic...
I’ve thought about doing the NorCal version many times. Excited to see what you come up with.
For a year or so I have felt that my wife and I don't fit in the overland crowed. I was thinking more on the lines of extreme overlander. Rocklander is perfect. I think you are officially creating something many of us have been looking for. Great work.
I'm so happy to hear it! I think there are alot of us that fit in between overlander and rock crawler 🤘.
The rocklander term has been around for a while now so I agree it’s great he’s making activities like this but he definitely didn’t create it
Same. Most overlanding stuff I've seen isn't more than I took my jetta tdi thru. This rocklandimg stuff is exactly what I have in mind for my 80 chevy
Thank you for sharing, I have watched trail recon, this actually showed there is more to Brad than meets the eye. So Thank you to him also.
Brad is awesome 👌 and he is a great crawler contrary to his Overland persona
We did a majority of this trip in 2019 as the first installment of our Wheeling Across America series. Epic views, killer rock crawling, and just an overall great time. Great video & thanks for sharing!
Dude yes!!!! I love it. Literally what I built my rig for, not super extreme buggy lines but to crawl and camp out of. The rock lander wasn’t even a thing until now!!!!!! Feel like you took my imagination and made it into reality!!! Can’t wait to watch this full video!!!!
Awesome!!! I think there are alot of folks out there like you and I. We don't just want rock crawling or overlanding... how about both? 😎
This 100%!
Such an epic adventure! Thanks for your contributions! This is the genre we didn’t know we needed!
Absolutely! Happy to share and I hope to get more people on trails 🤘.
3:02 I did every trail in Big Bear and Socal in general with 33's on a 1st gen Tacoma.
Nice! I don't doubt it at all. These trails are nice and easy 🤘
Shout out brad.. reppin new Mexico in his jeep✊️🙌
Salute to you Nate and thanks to Brad for the assist! This is a great endeavor and us off-roaders appreciate your hard work.
@ Nate, winching is a part of offroading, there's nothing wrong with drawing line. You should be encouraging it, matter of fact, you being an influencer on this platform should be showing others how to do it correctly, when and where. Thanks to you and Brad for sharing this adventure with us.

This is very inspiring. Love watching your videos and it keeps the passion alive when the funds aren’t there
Thanks so much!
Thank you for this video. We will get up to Holcomb ASAP to get that tree removed.
Loved the video, Nate! Brad is an awesome dude - great personality and driver. He’s got a sweet rig too!
26:45 Take that rock! Lol, Awesome! Great video.
So much action! This route is explosive. Thank you for bringing this to us
Dude you could have cut back to the 3N16 and then dropped back in on 3N06X and that would put you back on 3N93 to continue up.
Thanks for sharing! I’m gonna get a group of friends together to give this a shot! 🤘🤘
I can't stop rewatching 26:45 . "OHH"
Lol my son rewinded it a few times as well 😎. I think It's important to keep the clips of me being a bone head 🤣
Impressed that when rocks are in the way, you can just plow right into them. I had to rewatch it because I thought it was dirt at first.
Love seeing you and Brad getting together. You guys have great chemistry. Would love to see trail recon and overlndx up in the Washington mountains for some snowverlanding too.
It’s wild that Cali trees seem to give Washington trees a run for their money.

@@DirtLifestyle You can check out Matt’s Off Road Recovery where he recently did a recovery of a flipped Rover out there. 👍
Amazing trip!! Wish we had space like that here in the north east!
I'm going to be working with a couple folks on the east coast to put together a couple of these. 😁
I'm so glad you got to see Truck Haven. Its an offroad playground.
My 2 favorite offroad people. All you are missing is Marco. LOL. Would luv to meet up with you both someday and follow you through one of these adventures. I watched Brad's video too and together you guys make me want to go right now and start an adventure!
Thank you! I'm truly honored! But you are right... we are missing Marco... 😢

Nate, this is a great idea! I am definitely interested in more rocklander style routes especially out East where I live here in Michigan.
Right now, I'm working on 1 East Coast and 1 southeast. Nothing up by you YET, but I will definitely get up there eventually 👍
@@DirtLifestyle I figured as much. When you head out this way, let me know. I know some spots for you to consider.
One of the best videos from your channel I've seen! Thanks for taking us along.
14:48... might be backing offa this one. Has me dyin!! Haha love ya nate!
Wow you were really lucky to come down just after a blizzard! Those mountains don't stay snow-covered for long, but it's a critical part of the ecology
Absolutely awesome and what I’ve been hoping for after doing the WA BDR.
Wait until you see the WA Rocklander route I have coming out 😁. It's soooo good!!
Loving this new series
Always a good thing to be able to pull McGiver out of the tool box , anytime, anywhere !
Truckhaven is a great 4x4 park. Tierra Del Sol -TDS is held right there every year. Some great trails right there too. Took my mirror off at pinion in a Jeep XJ. Possible to get thru with no damage but one slip and that’s it lol.
Great watch. That has to be the awesomest taco in the world!
Looked like an awesome trip! Im glad you guys showed the good the bad and the ugly.
Nate, it's awesome you've teamed up with Brad for this. You always put together very pleasing and informative videos. Can't wait for the portals.
I have been totally engrossed in this video. Didn’t plan on commenting until the end, but I’ve just got to say finding that fill tube was such a win!
This is such an awesome thing that you are doing & cannot wait to see how it all unfolds for you & others who want to run the routes, ourselves included. @Trailrecon should check out the oracle flush mount taillights for the JKs. Love this idea! Would love to tackle this one day.
YES!! Been waiting for this man! I’ve always built my rigs for this type of wheeling and it’s exactly what my 80 is built for. Looking forward to upcoming routes!! (Washington…Idaho…?) Also, I’m shocked that valve cover fix worked!
Washington in early July more than likely and norcal at some point this summer? Hopefully sooner than later 😎
OMG....THIS is AWESOME ....You two Are AWESOME...Thank you Both SO MUCH for this !!!!! 😁
This is exactly the type of wheeling I love. Thanks for putting this together. Hope to see you out there some day soon!
Coming from someone who works in repair at the Sprinter plant, those vans are more capable than most know. Especially the lifted AWD versions.
Awesome video! Love you showed picking up the broken pieces of tail light.
Great video Nate, I subscribe on both of you and Brad. I learned Max and you are planning to overlanding and wheeling soon. Excited to watch the video..
Thank you! Maxx is awesome. He will definitely be on the channel more this year 😁
Ha the drone catching footage of you catching footage, nice!
I've probably seen it before but didn't realize, that's cool.
Wow this is really an epic route. Love y’all doing stuff like this
This is awesome, cant wait to run this and see the rest to come. Thank You Nate!!
Awesome! Another epic adventure and video. My neck of the woods never looked so cool🤙

And it was a bonus we could see brad put the Jk to the test after the build finally and put it on some real rocks. Hoping to see some more videos like this, great job!
Thanks for measuring that gap. I also drive a LT tacoma and getting squeezed is always a concern on new trails
Lol absolutely! I was hoping those numbers would help someone. 👍
This is what the off-road community needs, thanks Nate 🤘🏽👌🏽
This was a fun video to watch. Loved seeing how your Toyota did with Method Race Wheels with the next generation Bead Lock Technology . I have the same wheels on my JKU.
Currently using my data to watch this at a gas station on the road. I love the videos
Lol well I appreciate the commitment 😁
Sick cant wait to hit these routes 🤙🤙
1000% LOVE this idea. Way to go.
Soooo much content in one video!!
Alot happend in those 4 days lol
I really like your take on the rock crawling overlanding mix . More my style than overlanding.

Nice! That was probably a blast. I hope you can see out of your taco better than I can out of mine lol. I rock crawl by braille in this thing...
Did Holcomb in a ZJ with 33s and a lunchbox locker in the front, no issues.
