Thank you for playing our game! You made a great video! We got a lot of useful information about the bugs, batteries, stamina, and stuff, and now we're working on fixing them and making the game run smoother. Thank you for your positive review on Steam, too!
I'm thinking the flashlight is intended more as a weapon than a see in the dark device. In which case the batteries are the ammo. In that context it's not so bad and most areas are reasonably lit. We're just conditioned to roll our eyes when we see battery mechanics in horror games.
terrible flashlight aside, I think this game's weakest area is inventory management. A limited inventory is a good concept but 3 items of any size ends up creating ridiculous situations where you can't hold 4 fuses but you can have an axe, bolt cutters, etc. If you're going to have a limited inventory system then either have a higher limit or do a grid based system.
The dev should get credit for knowing the difference between "lie" and "lay." The game was a little tedious in places, but it also had some very clever puzzles, such as the punch-out cover which revealed the correct numbers when rotated. Good deal. Thanks, Chris!
It was quite enjoyable, the puzzles were fun and especially the last one was unexpected! The threat was not really a threat, it was very easy to avoid. More puzzle game, than horror. Thank you for playing, Chris!
I enjoyed this, even with the not to scary enemy. I do like that you've got limitations but amping up the threat factor would give this game some edge! Love the puzzles and the look of the game. Thanks for sharing this one with us, Chris!
Ignoring the appalling battery life and crap stamina, this was pretty fun. I'd love to know what happens if you keep pointing the flashlight at Sonny-boy (using up several batteries). He starts smoking when you keep the light on him for any length of time. I enjoyed the puzzles, and am really curious to learn more about the backstory of this little game. Thanks for playing this, Chris!
When I first saw your character step out of his confinement, I honestly was impressed at how the environment looked..... But then, I saw one of my pet peeves --- the flashlight battery meter, and I began to lose hope..... And then, I saw that the inventory slots can only hold 3 items, and my heart sank even lower..... And once I saw that there's also a fast-depleting stamina bar, I can no longer ignore the possibility that this will be bad. These are all the things that ran in my head even before I've reached 1/4 through the gameplay, and I'm not surprised why this got a negative review. (Don't even get me started on how you have to hunt for fuses, lol.) The puzzles were alright at least, so there is that.
I hate battery systems in games. I like to take it slow and spend a lot of time exploring the environment that was created for us, and battery/fuel systems take that away from me.
I think they could make the dude more interesting as a threat by just having him spawn between you and the safe room. Like, wherever you are when he spawns, he is in the most direct path to it. That way you're more likely being chased away from safety rather than toward it and would have to think about how to outmaneuver him to get there.
It's basically just busy work. running back and forth, with extremely easy puzzles. But it's really nice to see the various pieces fall into place and new areas opening up. :)
Thanks! I just saw another TH-camr/Streamer playing this and giving up after 4 instant kills because the enemy sporned RIGHT next to him. Wanted to see the whole game though. Discovered you and really liked your style x thanks a lot for being patient enough for this game
Chris how could you! Left is always right! Except in the cases where left isn't right, which is always true. So that would mean that right isn't left, but left is left which is right, and most definitely not left. What I'm trying to say is always probably sometimes go left.
Very entertaining watching you play. I sometimes wonder if I awoke to find myself actually in a situation like this in "real life" if I could handle it, would I assume I have either died or gone insane OR would my logic and caution from playing such games kick in and push me to at least try to escape? 🤔
when will game devs realize that flashlight batteries last more than a couple seconds? It's a super annoying thing at this point. If you have to give the player batteries every 2 seconds, then you might as well not have that in the game at all.
A word to the wise, devs--don't make the most threatening things in your game an irritating battery system, inadequate stamina system, and minuscule inventory. This is supposed to be a *horror* game not The Anal Retentive Chef.😂 That being said, the game has it's good points as outlined by CJU. Implementing the changes he suggested would greatly improve it.
Arnie, I think is his name, isn't much of a threat, stamina and flashlight batterys are the only negatives in this game, imo, which still makes the game good and fun to play mostly due to the puzzles. 👍🏻😊
I am horrible when it comes to Escape Rooms but this would be up my alley!! I loved the puzzles. Another idea; in which others may not like; is that another aspect could be that each time the enemy walks towards the safe room and the circle despawns the enemy could take an item from the ground and hide it somewhere you've already been? (would prolong gameplay lol) {but hopefully autosaves}
I can guess why the reviews were negative. You pointed out most or all of them. The game is a bit clueless. The torch and run are garbage as you pointed out. The inventory is to small. I actually suggest games have a trolley/cart to put thing in and roll around. There is only one safe place instead of hiding places or multiple safe places. And yes, you were able to see a large portion of the area after falling.
In order to get this game to a higher rating, I think the developer should get rid of the stamina bar and limited flashlight. Add 1-2 lockers on each level of the school after making the school much bigger. Give the killer the ability to see your flashlight(so you can't use it all the time). Add more than one killer in the game and give each killer a unique weakness. Also make the game darker and add a few good jump scares at the right times. Let the killers teleport
i wonder if its significantly darker for you than what the recording shows. because it doesn't make any since to need the flashlight. its more than bright enough. also why not use the battery recharge every time in safe room?
The game has potentials, really enjoyed the puzzles. Not very scary but honestly i feel like it's more of a puzzle solving game. Hopefully its a little more polished when it comes out and I hope you play it when it does.
Janky but not too bad for an early access title. I am actually quite intrigued by this. If the horror elements can be updated (world needs to be DARKER so the flashlight has to be used every now and again) and the threat increased, I think it will be a good game. Favorite quote from this one..."I think I've landed in the wall..." lmao
Wow! Those batteries are worse than you get from a pound store (or dollar store for our US friends lol). Game is OK but nothing more. Pretty generic. Enemy threat is a bit silly with that safe room and inventory space is just annoying.
Make it possible for the killers to make the safe room no longer safe so the player has to find another safe room. In some places of the school it would be nice if there were a sound mentor, so the player would have to be as quiet as possible in order to survive.
Flashlights that drain quickly in horror games are so dumb. It's not even a proper challenge. It's just unnecessary stress for the player and it's also really unrealistic.
There are swirling graphical horizontal line glitches around the outside of the screen. This happened to me and I can see it on this video too. Camera movement is also very jittery and unsmooth. This is just another poorly optimized indie horror game made with the crappy Unity engine.
Glad you got out of that wall glitch 😅. The enemy design is pretty good, but should be more threatening. Perhaps if he could run. Hoping to see the next installment.
As the flashlight is only used for keeping the monster at bay, it's ok that it drains the batteries quickly. Otherwise you'd be too OP. In fact it seems you already are despite the bad batteries.
Reminded me a little of Alien Isolation, _"Ripley, you're almost there. Now turn on the flavitz."_ Then. _"Ripley, you're almost there, now go back and shut off the flavitz..."_
If you're referring to the flashlight then I am going to have to disagree. That is beyond a joke, you might as well not even have a flashlight at that point. It last maybe 20 seconds it looks like. No flashlight unless it's a light as bright as the heavens would last less than a minute TOP or somewhat a cheap excuse that it's malfunctioning. Hell not even oil lanterns are that pathetic. Long rant aside from this dumb trope that games overdo, this is the biggest offender and I find it unnecessary.
no matter how harrowing it would be to experience this situation, I would definitely crack up seeing that someone took the time to put candles on ceiling fan blades
the puzzles were nicee, maybe must be hidin spots for the participation of the enemy . the game reminds me that escape rooms in real life, quite entertaining
I really feel like games need to implement a flashlight system like The Last of Us 2. Have infinite battery, but have the flashlight flicker at inopportune times that require you to hit the controller to get it to stop flickering. Does this game have the most pitiful flashlight batteries? I think so.
Agreed.
it sure has
I liked the lantern you used in The Beast Within.

Would you settle for a bad annoying indie horror game in this case?

Doubly so because some puzzles require two items in that three slot inventory at the same time. That's terribly limiting.
The dev should get credit for knowing the difference between "lie" and "lay." The game was a little tedious in places, but it also had some very clever puzzles, such as the punch-out cover which revealed the correct numbers when rotated. Good deal. Thanks, Chris!

I get so damn excited when I receive notification of you releasing another horror game 😁
Great puzzles! There should be more than one kind of enemy. That would make the puzzles harder to complete. Well done CJU
Really appreciated the candle puzzle. Using the valve wheels to move the furniture is a great idea.
Definitely better than most early access games Chris has played, falling behind bounds glitch aside.

The batteries are understandable, once you figure out the "why" (should be noted at start), but that 3 slot inventory can kiss it.

I guess I can see what they were going for though it's not my cup of tea. It's a micro-management and puzzle game with horror elements. I can see why it has negative reviews. There's not really any flow to the game. It's just a series of random puzzles and a little storyline peppered in. Some of the puzzles were cool, but nothing I haven't seen before.
They couldn't even be assed to give it a proper ending! At least give a cliffhanger
very cool but no too creepy and i have to say the negative is for the battery and the stamina
Yeah this was alright! It has some problems for sure, but the positive outweighs the negative imo. I'd watch more if the devs continue the game!
I thought the logical thing to do would have been to actually use the inside of the safe room for the item drop and not in front but actually inside.

i really look forward for part 2 of this game
pretty cool game. the puzzles were cool. yea just needs to work on the horror aspect. cause atm its simply a puzzle game
Flashlight battery system already made it lose points for me along with the bad stamina system and the enemy being less of a threat with how often he teleports/despawns. Inventory system also did it no favors--why can you carry an axe AND bolt cutters but not multiple fuses/keys which are smaller? Maybe a grid based inventory could've worked if they wanted to limit it for the player? I get the feeling it was trying to do what that Granny game did to some extent.
The story with didn't really pull me in and I don't know why/how all this stuff is here. How did they get all the TV's in that one room? How did they get individual metal cells and also get them upstairs? It's all set dressing without any substance. The puzzles were a bit too simple and somewhat tedious imo, and left much to be desired. On top of it all, this game lacks any horror. As CJU pointed out, there's triggers in the same spots that make the same sounds every time you go over them. The environment doesn't put you on edge either and each time Arney spawns in, you end up running back to the safe room so there isn't much tension there either. I hope it gets more polish if it's continued but as it stands, I think it needs a little more time to flesh out its concepts.
