Summary of the story from what I can understand:
Our character worked on an office building as Night Security, and on the office, we find a note saying that a Security named 'Keigo Ochigi' has gone missing. And that's how we begin our story.
As we explore, we found out that not only there's many ghost activity happening in the building, there's also a severe 'Power Harassment' case happening in the office as well. An employee that only mentioned as ** is being abused by her boss and Seniors, forced to work over-time every day and they always pilled their work at her. Later, we found out that ** has a lover whose work as Night Security (Which is Keigo Ochigi), but one of her senior tried to took that man from her, and at one point the man broke up with her. This caused ** to have mental breakdown and killed herself. ** Ghost then haunted the building and attacked everyone that caused her pain. Her Seniors, her boss, and Keigo. ** then trapped the souls of those people on a Limbo.
On Ending 1, as we tried to escape through the Emergency Stairs, ** Ghost attacked our character and caused him to fall, but instead of dying, time seemingly rewinded and we returned to the beginning of the game. But this time, instead of just showing our character title as 'Night Security', it showed us our character's name. 'Keigo Ochigi'.
Our character was Keigo all along, and we're trapped in the Limbo. All the floor and incident that we encountered was replaying the pain of ** before she died, in which she was abused, met Keigo during one of her over-night work, and becoming a lover despite Keigo already married, and also replaying the moment where her senior flirted and took Keigo from her. This is why Keigo didn't flinch at all the stuff that happening, and why Keigo didn't hesitate to give the flirty employee his contact number despite he already married. Because it already happened and it's all just a re-telling.
On Ending 2, we managed to escape by inputting the code 1023 and escaped through the Elevator. Keigo woke up from his coma with his family waiting for him, but ** appear behind them, hinting that ** will always haunt Keigo even if he already out from the Lombo.
Trivia: This might be a speculation. But at the beginning of the story, we can check the calendar and it shows that 23rd October (10-23) is the day of Keigo's daughter birthday. 1023 (The number that we use to escape from Limbo) is an important date, because it's the day they broke up and ** committed suicide. So, if I have to speculate, Keigo didn't broke up with ** because of the flirting senior, but because Keigo finally have a daughter and he don't want to disappoint his family, thus he cut off the affair and relationship with **,

The clearest explanation of the game's story background so far. All the people the security guard encounters are already dead and they are trapped in a limbo representation of the office building that the ghost created. Only the guard (Keigo) is still alive from the ghost's attempt to kill him and he is trapped in a coma and forced to repeat the day before his resignation over and over again until he breaks out of the loop and wakes up.

  • @jaxirraywhisper741

Great video as always. Also after seeing those two endings, my take on this is (SPOILER AHEAD) The security guy was in a coma and the experience was his dream. The "ghost" was the stalker woman who probably pushed him down the stairs as he rejected her due to being faithful to his wife and daughter. The most creepy part is her visiting him in the hospital imho.

    • @railmacher1303
      @railmacher1303 ปีที่แล้ว +43

I have watched the Japanese streams and speculation on what is going on, the security guard had an affair with the woman in red. The guard is implied to be good-looking since the female workers comment on this. Meanwhile, the office workers seem to know about the affair, and both her boss and colleagues either gossip about her or bully her at work. Eventually, the woman in red committed suicide by throwing herself off the stairway shaft. The note by Ochigi is implied that he witnessed her suicide on the stairway camera, and he wanted to quit. Also, pay attention to all the workers the guard meets in the building, they all leave the building by going down the stairway instead of taking the elevator. With the exception of the lady who took the elevator from 6th to 3rd floor, the woman in red is the only person who takes the elevator to leave, implying she is different from the rest. The Ending 2 either implies the woman in red is still alive and continues to stalk the security guard or her ghost continues to haunt him even though he manages to escape and wake up from his coma.

    • @railmacher1303
      @railmacher1303 ปีที่แล้ว +29

To add on, there is an implication that anyone who leaves by the stairway dies. Throughout the game, you hear loud banging sounds echoing from the stairway, implying maybe the workers who left through there were thrown off the stairway shaft by the ghost. The 6th floor lady who didn't manage to enter the elevator and the lady who end up running on the 3rd floor have their bodies dragged into the stairway. Even the guard himself dies when he runs to the stairway and gets dragged by the ghost to fall to his death in Ending 1. At the bottom of the shaft, there are many VHS tapes scattered around. Maybe all the tapes down there each represent a person.

When Manly played this a few days ago, I knew it would only be a matter of time before Chris got to it, and I wasn't disappointed! Chilla seems to really be honing his craft. Still mostly focused on the workplace, but the games have so much better pacing and a nice, slow ramping up of weird and creepy. The fact that the backstory to this is left to speculation just seems to add icing to the cake.
If I have one complaint about the game, it's that there were only two endings. I would have enjoyed a third ending where the guard discovers more about the ghost and possibly exorcises her (be it a real ghost or his own guilt, as some theories suggest). It's the one type of ending Chilla seems to rarely include, yet it would be perfect for your intrepid security guard since nothing seems to deter him from finishing his shift until the VHS tape at the very end.

The ghost isn’t a real ghost; the monster is an apparition of his guilt with the woman our protagonist cheated on his wife with (the Lady in Red). The game is a commentary on work-life culture in Japan (evidenced by the multiple video tapes and interactions depicting harsh “power-harassers” and workloads), and how escaping or prioritizing family is seen as a failure of character. That’s why everyone who goes to the emergency exit dies, such as the two girls in the security cameras (the first of which we see eith our own eyes, the second of which is implied with the maid on 6F, who cleans the blood splatter from the second girl who tripped, the blood which smears all the way to the exit), and also yourself-the police tape around the stairs also implies other employees have been committing suicide by jumping from them, which is also supported by various characters who mention the death of overworked employees and their guilt with the incidents (eg. the woman in the stalls and the security cam notes). The only person who doesn’t exit via the stairs is the Lady in Red, who in a small detail, exits via the elevator instead when she confronts you in the electrical room.
That’s why the good ending is you remembering your daughter’s birthday and escaping through the elevator rather than running to the stairs; the bad ending includes you rewinding and reliving the same day, over and over again (the Steam achievement has an infinity symbol ♾️ as the badge.) As you could’ve guessed, the protagonist will never get away from the fact that he cheated on his wife, which is why the Lady in Red appears even in the good ending, behind his family-it’s also why there are mutiple instances of women talking about “deviously” seducing a security guard or trying to seduce out your contact information. The game is a story about remembering what’s important, but not forgetting what you did. Also, the Japanese text in the Hell floor says things like “bastard,” “cheater,” “worthless,” and “can’t escape,” which makes sense given that it’s in the same hallway as the Lady in Red jumpscaring you from the TV screen. The game focuses focuses on two themes, basically; work-life balance and cheating. This is a large departure from other Chilla’s games, which usually only have one central motif or throughline (ex. “The desire to rectify the past” in Missing Children, “The fear of being forgotten” in Stigmatized Property, or “The fear of what alienation can compel you to do” in Night Delivery). This was easily one of his most well-developed and brilliant games, and I hope he continues to make games like this in the future.

@@thinnairr They're the only two LPers I really watch anymore. Manly always tries to give an honest critique at the end, and while his delivery is pretty dry, he plays a lot of more obscure indie titles.
Between the two of them, I think indie Devs have a perfect sounding board to improve their future games, as both are quite honest and always try to give helpful suggestions when they find something wrong with the game. All the other LPers I used to watch either went political, got too hammy, or (in the case of Gab) the videos always are so long I rarely have time to watch them.

That was top! Very frightening, without any eldritch horror or mutated creatures, and only one (sloooow) chase 😄! But I have to disagree with you about Ending 2; you only lived long enough to see (and traumatize) your wife and daughter before passing, it seemed. First of all, your daughter burst into tears and your wife gasped in shock when they entered the room. There's no indication of wth happened in that elevator, but from that clean, *flat* bed, it looked as if you had no body below the torso. So you were not long for this world before the ghost peeked out and presumably jumpscared you to death... since the last sound is of the heart monitor flatlining. So yeah, you dead, no matter which way it happens, in both of the endings we saw. I must say, though, I think Chilla's Art is progressing admirably in game design. This was kind of a minimalist tour-de-force😀. Thanks for playing and sharing, CJU!

The moment you see the floors covered in blood, you should probably stop following your routine procedure of checking alarms and locking doors - and call the cops instead. But your guy doesn't even have that option it seems.

I was watching your gameplay on the day you've uploaded this, but I had to finish it just now, in order to watch a Japanese TH-camr play this and get a better idea of what's going on.
Story-wise, here's what I can discern. The female ghost is the same girl who used to work in this place and was being abused by both her boss and colleagues (I take it that she works in one of those Japanese "black companies".) With all the work piled on her, she had no choice but to toil long hours in order to complete em. Somewhere along the way, she and the night patrol guard Keigo ended up hooking with each other, since they both work on the late hours of the evening. Not sure if they were in an ongoing relationship or not, but eventually, one of her colleagues stole him from her (that woman who you saw bragging in the monitor feed on the 6th floor, and probably one of the colleagues who bullied the girl into doing the workload for her). I don't know how the girl died exactly, but whether it was due to overworking or something else, her soul held a serious grudge, which haunt and killed everyone. This explains all those bloody writings on the wall. (At 49:02 one of the things written there was "Yurusenai", meaning "I won't forgive you.") Hence, mostly all the people that you've encountered in the building were already dead and their souls trapped in a looping limbo (including the lady janitor).
Your character entered the place not knowing that you've been dragged into the said loop. This explains the oddity with the man in the toilet from the 2nd floor being the same man you encountered in the toilet on the 3rd floor, who asked you to leave the lights on. (And then, there's that dude passed out on the upper floor, telling you how he keeps seeing you standing there, whenever he awakens from his stupor.)
A lot of the supernatural Silent Hill-like segments, along with the TV monitor moments were caused by the female ghost. Pretty much, she has trapped you in this limbo until you can fully understand why she holds such a grudge. There were certain moments in the game where you're actually placed in the position to see what Keigo's seeing (the previous night patrol guard). In fact, as you head to the upper floors, I felt as if you're inside Keigo's body, seeing and experiencing those moments the way it was. This explains why the girl in human form says "I love you" towards the climactic part. Along that vein, if you've noticed, she never harmed you in any way. She's just there, lurking and watching what you do, even as you check the surveillance cameras and spot her outside that very door where you're in.
As for the endings, I felt that both are connected to each other. Ending 1 is you being in Keigo's perspective who ran away from the ghost as she approached you, and in panic, missed the stairs and fell to your death. The whole game rewinds to show that the death was Keigo's, not yours (changing the name on the upper left corner of your screen as you enter the building).
Continuing the loop as you re-enter the last chapter, you realize that the female ghost has helped you. She realizes that you've already figured out and understood what has happened in this place and therefore, she finally releases you from the nightmarish loop. By plastering your kid's drawing on the wall, you're able to trigger a memory of your kid's birthday. An event that you've got planned, just before you were dragged into the loop. And that trigger pulled you out of the depths (similar to The Matrix) and found yourself in the hospital. The girl showed up in her human form, not to stalk you 'til the ends of the earth, but to simply check and see that you're doing well with your family before her soul can move on.
Welp, that's my interpretation of the whole deal anyways. One of the best games that Chilla's Art got on release.

After every f***ed up thing this security guard went through on every floor, he still was like, "Oh,okay. Happens every day, nothing new. "I mean when he saw those 2 people get killed and when he went to the 6th floor to see it covered in blood and a weird lady sweeping it. Or seeing a whole office put upside down. But when he was checking this fire alarms he was like "No f***ing ABNORMALITIES. GOD I WILL NEED THIS GUY IN MY COMPANY WHICH I DONT ACTUALLY HAVE.

Just thinking,.. I would really love to see a Chilla's Art game set in a Hospital or Residential Home. A night shift in either of those environments has more than enough material to spook the bejaysus out of a person. Chilla really does atmospherics like a Boss. Oh, and dont mean to be overly personal, but it looks like you've been in the Wars a bit, Chris. I hope everything is ok and you're feeling well.

    [Adapted from a reply]

I think I am going to start leaving Diary entrees around my work, explaining the plot of my life to anybody exploring the building in the night.
    Practice Note:
I can't shake this feeling that there is something in the building watching us. Earlier today I saw a group of people huddled in the corner of the office. When I went to investigate they where gone. My spine ran cold. Anyway could you do me a favor and collect 14 pieces of trash off the ground. Also the new code to the Utility closet is 2354A1. Also in the break room, we have a new system to open the cabinets. You have to beat our new AI security system at a game of PONG, for some reason it really likes PONG. Oh and lastly the electric system is been kind of finaccy. I left a Breaker Fuse behind a line of Machine Gun pillboxes. You are gonna need to dodge them to get to it.
Why did I feel the need to make all these convoluted systems for our business to function? Because I am a Boss in a Horror Game and I am completely bat shit crazy! 🤪
    Thanks Again

I could never get a job as night security. My mom used to take me to PTA meetings when i was a kid, sometimes they were at my school and that place was creepy at night. So night security, definitely not for me.
I will say i appreciated Ending 2... Sort of. One thing I've never liked about horror games (or movies) is they either end up with the protagonist dying, or the protagonist lives but finds out their nightmare is not over and may never be.
