You guys have by far the best bass fishing videos on youtube. I have implemented so many of your tricks and ideas to my fishing in the midwest to win a ton of tournaments. Thanks guys! keep it up!
Y’all should do like an offshore bass fishing series. I know I definitely struggle with offshore bass fishing and it would be cool to see a video on deep ledge fishing or creek channel swing fishing you know just stuff like that would be great. Thanks guys keep the videos coming!!!🙌
Great video guys. Yesterday was texting Matt Newman about this topic and he recommended to me these same swimbaits. I was previously using money minnows with no success. Matt and Tim you guys are awesome keep up the great work. Thanks for helping us out.
Great video! One idea I have for a video: I would like to see a video about bait size throughout the year. About soft plastics, swimbaits and other bait styles in every season. I read advice from many trophy bass hunters and some fish small baits in the winter, others fish big. I'm confused about this. In the summer some fish big baits and others fish small... For example, in summer Mike Long says to use small lures faster if you want to catch the largest bass: 3"-5" swimbaits, smaller jigs... In the winter he says to use 6" or bigger swimbaits and big jigs. Brett Richardson fishes very small baits in the coldest water, but on warmer winter days he fishes bigger baits (that's what I think it's working for me). In summer I think he fishes normal sized baits and big baits too... Bill Murphy used 4" worms a lot in summer and big worms in fall, winter and spring, but said in the coldest water usually it's best to use smaller baits too... The time of year when I get more fish on 6" and 7" swimbaits is around mid February, when the fish are shallower on sunny warmer days. Before that I can only catch them on 5" senkos and small worms or other smaller baits fished very slowly. In July I have caught one of my biggest bass on a Mattlures Baby Bass fished with a medium/fast speed. But last year I haven't caught a single bass on swimbaits (I used mostly Spro BBZ-1 6" and 7" MS Slammer)! It's frustrating! And I used swimbaits at leat 50% of my time on the water. I haven't caught a single fish this year too, but I fished 6" swimbaits a lot and the weather this year has been colder longer... Maybe I should have used small soft plastics on light line. I only fish from the bank and I'm from Portugal where there are only northern strain. In most of the lakes I fish bass feed mostly on pumpkinseed sunfish, red swamp crawdads and baby bass. I'm thinking about starting to fish smaller baits and give up on the big baits, because I rarely catch fish on them. Maybe there are not a lot of fish in these lakes because most of the people here keep all the fish they catch. I fish about 4 days a month and I'm catching 2 or 3 bass over 1lb a year (usually one between 2 and 4lbs and the others around 1lb)! About 90% of the days I go fishing I don't catch nothing! Even when I use some finesse baits It's difficult to catch a fish. People say it's difficult to catch bass in South California. Well, they should try to catch bass here!
Great job guys I got an idea for a video how about seasonal patterns for big spotted bass vs big largemouth including types of baits, cover , water temps, target areas and overall variations between the two throughout the year and a breakdown on how to target those bigger fish consistently throughout the different seasons.. You guys are epic keep at it. Fish on!!
Suggest you do a video on each keitech swim bait size and recommended hook size ie Owen Beast hook 4/0 for 4.8, but for 3.8, 5.8, 6.8, 7.8. Note that different brands of hooks are not the same size as other manufactures and maybe even suggestions for weights of hooks for water column ie 1/16 oz for 1-3 water column, 3/16 oz for 3-10 water column etc. Love your work, learning so much.
Hey Guys! Great Videos! When you show your products or details of rigging a zoom in or close up of how you screw in the hooks or compare hook size would be awesome... but all in all super good stuff. Keep them coming!
Don't own a boat but always enjoy good electronic use and fish finding demonstrations. How about some bed fishing videos underwater, some of those hogs out in CA..
Matt,I fish a small lake in central fl normal water depth 6 to 7 ft.With dollar pads and partial grass. What swim baits would you recommend for me to try in this type water? Thanks Rick
That's the problem I've been having. Finding a big enough hook on a light head. I think Picasso smart mouths vary in hook to weight size. Sorry again for all the questions and thanks so much for the help
Great video guys as always, keep it up. I would love to see any videos of you guys fishing this spring...whats been working, any new baits or techniques this year, large swimbait stuff.
cant seem to be able to cast my baitcaster with tension knob down close to free spool, and would like to get to be able to completely free spool. Its not a bad reel so i dont think its the reels fault. Video on how to cast with lower tension for more distance?
With the Talon worm blades , have you ever tried them on the tail of a swimbait? I use them in the winter and prespawn rigged on the tail after you trim it down to the base , for me it excells out here in NC when the bite gets tough
Guys I'm moving to FL from Mass, lived in FL before and used a double rig w two zoom flukes. Great looking, they twitch back and forth between each. other. Ever use it for bass??
Absolutely that was my next question. So just click on the link you guys provided and go from there? Anyway I could help you guys I definitely want to. Your help is greatly appreciated
That's all you need to do :-) Any of the line is, doesn't matter which, and then shop as normal. TW will track it from there. We both really appreciate it, thank you!!
Are you guys best buds? Related or a couple? Really doesn't matter just alittle curious cause u guys are so close and I really love the channel! U guys taught me soooo much! I only used to use live baits cause I was awful with any lures. Now I'm catching smallmouth like never before! And it's thanks to u guys!!!! So love the channel and thank u for sharing your knowledge!! I was just curious cause u guys seem so close and I watch so many of your videos! Love u guys thanks!
Hey guys, What gear ratio should I purchase? I fish a lot of small lakes with a ton of wood structure and I’ve been using a 6:3:1 and I have lost bass due to them running towards me and getting hung up. I fish keitech 5.8 to 7.8 and 5-6 inch soft strike king swimbaits. Thank you
Matt, you mentioned about not skin hooking the swim bait, and leaving the hook just under the skin of the swim bait demonstrated by Tim. Wouldn't this extra plastic above the hook prevent less hookups?
Hey Matt and Tim. Hope you're feeling better Matt and on the mend. I tried the website and description and couldn't find out what size you use/recommend for the "Matt Allen Swimbait Head" paired with the 4.8 Keitech swimbait. Lmk Thanks!
Good information, something to think about, hold your hooks when showing them in front of some white bristol board or white cardboard. Your gray hoodies don't allow for best contrast to view hooks.
hey Matt, good idea with the toothpicks I've been using your swimbait heads out on folsom lake lately and I used to use super glue, glad i don't have to use it any more lol
Matt and Tim, At 1:22 you show how the hook should be laying inside the bait. So my question is, You don"t penetrate the top of the lure then skin hook it?
They penetrate the top but don't skin hook it, because the point of the hook will be hidden inside the small slot on top of the bait. It will still be weedless and very easy to set the hook.
summer time is coming up.. night time swim baits with treble hooks on the bottom of the bait.. how and when to fish those ? carolina rigs on ledges... more in depth summer time stuff for big bass
Y'all have got me hooked on the Keitech and always use your link when ordering however need a answer to this. I've been using the Houdini (#453) Well they are not making them anymore. Which color do you think is the one closes to the Ol'Houdini? Thanks for the awesome videos Im a swim bait fan because of you guys.
What kind of rod do you fish your swimbaits on. I use to use a medium rod but it seem like i was losing a lot of fish.I switched to a med/hev. rod and the fish seem to stay on better.
I taught myself by just tightening both brakes all the way down. After that I cast a few times then loosened the brake by the spool so that your bait falls slowly. Then loosen the side brakes by about a quart of the way. (For instance if your brakes go all the way to 10 try a 7 or 8). Idk if this helped or anything since I’m like 3 years late😂 but if not sorry dude. (Also I don’t watch this channel a lot so idk if they uploaded a video on using a baitcaster but if they did and this was a waste of time for me to type my apologies).
i use the weedless setup quite a bit for both keitech 4.8" and basstrix 6". typically using a gamakatsu weighted springlock 5/0. i have noticed however that the basstrix is so incredibly soft that the spring will pull out of the nose pretty easily after a little bit. sometimes all it takes is a fish strike for it to pull out, and that bait is no longer useable with my hook setup because it just wont hold anymore. any idea how to remedy this with a weedless setup? thanks guys!
+Caleb V. Yes we do. While the applications are different the hooks themselves are pretty similar in wire thickness and can both be set easily with a 3 to 4 power rod.
We have just moved to Wisconsin And trying to learn. It would be helpful to have close ups so we could better see what the bait, the hooks, spinners, and attachments, weights, etc look like
What are your go to colours of swing impacts/shiners for both stained and clear water? Putting together a few A-rig orders for smallies and largies here in Canada!
I know this idea can be time consuming, but a video about breaking down lakes. Points with flats or tapers, versus points that drop off fast. Where to find quality fish, on a new lake as opposed to numbers. I'd like to see Lake Tulloch, Pedro, Clear Lake. Just brainstorming.
so 4/0 8th ounce owner beast for the 4.8 inch keitech? I'm going to order these now from tacklewarehouse just want to make sure I get the right stuff. Favorite color if you had to pick one?
yeah that's correct. pro blue red pearl or electric shad are my favorites. If you can follow one of our links to do that shopping it would be very much appreciated!
Ok..I was using 6/0 but felt to small..thanks! Here in Jersey not too many anglers use big swimbaits like Huddlestons, I'm starting off small working my way to them.. committed!! U guys are awesome..thanks for the help!
I don’t know if you guys have spoken much about the Sun and shade angles where the fish will be sitting. Moon phases. Another idea is to buy a soft plastic duroMeter check readings on brands and relating the action with underwater cameras in winter and summer and compare notes.
i love kaiteck wiming baits but i have to put a 1.16 onze wight and when they bite letgo of the line so they have time ti eat it if not they only hit the head of the bait and set the hook and lost the fish
TacticalBassin if it's the one from the other day we're you and Matt went out and was killing it and the bass were in a frenzy I really like that type of video really I watch a lot of people that have fishing channels but they all get vlogy and so that sucks but I found that video and I was hooked I've only seen 5 of yalls videos and can't wait for more I'll take all the tips y'all have and can't wait to see how y'all work the tank idea it will help out a lot one of y'all talk while the other works the fishing rod just to see how to work the bait
Thanks Bro! Be sure and look at the playlists on our channel. There are TONS of videos (several hundred) and they're all teaching fishing or crushing giant fish... not a Vlog in the whole mix :-) Tomorrow's video is a story but its still better than a vlog hahaha
I realize this vid is 2 yrs old, but I need some help. My hook ups with the weedless rig is only about 25%. I've used 4/0 and 5/0 Fusion, Gamaktsu Superline, and Owner screwnlocks. 7' MH fast with 7:3 reel, 20lb PP braid with about 8' 12lb Maxima mono leader and straight 15lb InvisX FC. I let the rod load before the hookset, then smash it. I've had four fish ON for 5-10 seconds, then the bait came flying back at me. The bait wasn't pulled down on the hook, so I know they weren't short strikes, just poor hook sets. Tried straight 30lb braid, missed two keepers. I feel like the hooks are rolling sideways and sliding right out of their mouth. Why am I missing so many fish this way?!?
+ivan lor it's not that they can't see red, red is one of the first colors on the spectrum to desaturate in lowlight/ underwater from my understanding.
+ivan lor yes bass can see red and other colors. Red is commonly used for fish hooks to imitate what is called "Gill Flash". When Bait fish are feeding their gills become engorged with blood making their red gills standout. Red is very effective down to about 10 - 14 feet depending on the clarity of the water and how much natural or artificial light is penetrating the water. Even in Clear water at 20 feet in depth red starts to quickly turn to black. In deeper water Bass start using the rods in their eyeballs rather than their eyeball cones. Cones in their eyeballs help them see color and rods see mostly in Grays. The rods in their eyes are more effective in deep water helping them to see in the darker water.

Thx 4 the video. But for a newbie I wish you would show close up video of how to rig keitech swim bait and show up close what your talking about sticking a toothpick in where to keep the bait on the hook longer..this is just constructive criticism. I do really appreciate your knowledge and videos, i just need to see so i can learn better. Thx.
Johnny Schoeberl Drag a football jig along the bottom and feel for ANY difference in the bottom. If there is ANYTHING different, focus ALL of your efforts on that spot. Hope that helps :-)
You guys have by far the best bass fishing videos on youtube. I have implemented so many of your tricks and ideas to my fishing in the midwest to win a ton of tournaments. Thanks guys! keep it up!
Gotta love people who share their knowledge. Thanks for all you guys do. Lol. I'm completely addicted to your channel
Thanks Kurt! You're welcome, we're here to help!

We're happy to do it, Donny! You're going to love them!
You guys make some great videos ! Just when I think I know a good deal about fishing I learn something new from you guys.
Haha Thanks Mike!
Wish I could see what your talking about...

Great idea!! Would also love to see this!!
Toothpick idea is simply brilliant! Thanks guys
Awesome videos guys. Question for you guys, what rod length/action do you guys recommend for fishing swim jig/soft plastic.
Great video!!! I actually got those screw-on blades in my lucky tackle box and had no idea what to use them for until I watched your video!!
Suggest you do a video on each keitech swim bait size and recommended hook size ie Owen Beast hook 4/0 for 4.8, but for 3.8, 5.8, 6.8, 7.8. Thanks for the vid. Best fishing info vids out there. Would love to see more vids on spotted bass baits and behavior.. Thanks
+Andy Thanks Andy! We'll keep that in mind.
Awesome Video, yet again. Could you do a video on your top search baits for finding bass? Or one on tips using your electronics?
Great video! Been catching up on all your videos I haven’t watched! Always provide the best info!
Don't own a boat but always enjoy good electronic use and fish finding demonstrations.
How about some bed fishing videos underwater, some of those hogs out in CA..
+GabooNx Thanks bud, those are great ideas!

Yes better close ups and more on the actual subject of rigging a swim bait.
Great video guys as always, keep it up. I would love to see any videos of you guys fishing this spring...whats been working, any new baits or techniques this year, large swimbait stuff.
+Fishn'Michigan Great ideas, thank you!
good info. will help me and others.
Q: what power and action do you use for these soft swimbaits?
cant seem to be able to cast my baitcaster with tension knob down close to free spool, and would like to get to be able to completely free spool. Its not a bad reel so i dont think its the reels fault. Video on how to cast with lower tension for more distance?
Great recommendation and would help new and younger anglers

matt or tim which one would you use if you only had 1 to choose the swimbait weighted hook or swim jig head?
Hey guys, What gear ratio should I purchase? I fish a lot of small lakes with a ton of wood structure and I’ve been using a 6:3:1 and I have lost bass due to them running towards me and getting hung up. I fish keitech 5.8 to 7.8 and 5-6 inch soft strike king swimbaits. Thank you

Not like you would think. It helps keep the bait weedless
Hey Matt and Tim. Hope you're feeling better Matt and on the mend. I tried the website and description and couldn't find out what size you use/recommend for the "Matt Allen Swimbait Head" paired with the 4.8 Keitech swimbait. Lmk Thanks!

as a underspin try warbaits they are good for us for saltwater bass in southern cali

Love watchin you guys very informative but wld LOVE CLOSER VIDEO OF THE RIGS YOU VUYS SHOW US.... THX DANNY...
can you make a video talking about what gear and how you fish a 6 inch Hud or jsj hitch 6
summer time is coming up.. night time swim baits with treble hooks on the bottom of the bait.. how and when to fish those ? carolina rigs on ledges... more in depth summer time stuff for big bass
+Collin McCosh Noted!

Sungill is the closest for sure. Its not that close but its a good color
What kind of rod do you fish your swimbaits on. I use to use a medium rod but it seem like i was losing a lot of fish.I switched to a med/hev. rod and the fish seem to stay on better.
I use a heavy to extra heavy 7'6" rod
Can't see much due to the fact that the camera is too far away.
Sweet vid guys, you two make a great team!
+TackleJunky81 Thanks!
If you havent already and i just cant find it, could you an in depth how to on baitcaster reels? I never have been able to get the hang of them.
I taught myself by just tightening both brakes all the way down. After that I cast a few times then loosened the brake by the spool so that your bait falls slowly. Then loosen the side brakes by about a quart of the way. (For instance if your brakes go all the way to 10 try a 7 or 8). (Also I don’t watch this channel a lot so idk if they uploaded a video on using a baitcaster but if they did and this was a waste of time for me to type my apologies).
So many Keitech color choices, how do you pick just a few to match EVERYWHERE and most conditions?
i use the weedless setup quite a bit for both keitech 4.8" and basstrix 6". typically using a gamakatsu weighted springlock 5/0. i have noticed however that the basstrix is so incredibly soft that the spring will pull out of the nose pretty easily after a little bit. sometimes all it takes is a fish strike for it to pull out, and that bait is no longer useable with my hook setup because it just wont hold anymore. any idea how to remedy this with a weedless setup? thanks guys!
You guys use same rod for both open hook and weedless? If not what are the differences
+Caleb V.
White Flash and any of the shad/baitfish colors. Almost all the keitechs are naturally colored enough that they work great.
I caught a 5.35lber on a Rage Swimmer on a weedless rig.
do you remember color/size? I love throwing them, but cant decide on size or color
God is good
For swimbait and A Rig, what would be best 7'6 MH or 7'6 M rod?
love this video use these in Minnesota lakes get nice bass love these baits and easy too huggs just stared using them
Thanks for watching and commenting Patty!
so 4/0 8th ounce owner beast for the 4.8 inch keitech? I'm going to order these now from tacklewarehouse just want to make sure I get the right stuff. Favorite color if you had to pick one?
yeah that's correct. pro blue red pearl or electric shad are my favorites. If you can follow one of our links to do that shopping it would be very much appreciated!
awesome video..I'm using 6.5 swimbait..what size hook should I use..(luck e strike and basstrix).. thanks
Thanks Carlos! I'd run an 8/0 Beast on those.
Ok..I was using 6/0 but felt to small..thanks! Here in Jersey not too many anglers use big swimbaits like Huddlestons, I'm starting off small working my way to them.. committed!! U guys are awesome..thanks for the help!
For the 4.8 do you use the 4/0?
try the striper series road runner for the underpin. Cut off the bucktail at the thread
Another video idea: Underwater footage of different types of swimbaits/swim jigs and the different actions with each brand/model
Great idea!!
I don’t know if you guys have spoken much about the Sun and shade angles where the fish will be sitting. Moon phases. Another idea is to buy a soft plastic duroMeter check readings on brands and relating the action with underwater cameras in winter and summer and compare notes.
Sorry one more question. What size hook and weight for the matt allen swimbait heads?
no worries! I use the 3/8 and half ounce the most except on A-rigs then it's all about the 1/8 oz.
Nice video guys quick question, what do u recommend a 3 bladed prop or 2? I have a motorguide
+_coach__Miguel_ Much prefer a 2 blade. They cut the weeds better unless you're able to track down a metal machete prop... those things are vicious!
Also, for the 3.8 keitech, what is your preferred rod power and action ??
i love kaiteck wiming baits but i have to put a 1.16 onze wight and when they bite letgo of the line so they have time ti eat it if not they only hit the head of the bait and set the hook and lost the fish
what gear ratio is the best for these kind of swimbaits. I hear 6:3:1 is good.
+ReelFloridaFishing Personally, I use a 7:1 but yes a 6:1 is just fine
Nice Work Gentlemen!
+Sam Gardner Thanks Sam!
Can you show me were you put that toothpick. I could not see were you put that in the bait.
Will y'all get some type of tank just so we can see how the fall and retrieve is supposed to look and so we can see the the hand motion so I can mimic
Have you seen our underwater videos? We started with jerkbaits but there will be a lot more showing different styles of baits.
Can I throw a 3.8 or 4.3 keitech fat on 20lb braid with a 12 or 14lb leader?

Where can you purchase the Matt brand jigs you talk about? I looked on your website but guess I missed them. A link would be really cool. Thanks

Could you please do a video on big hair jigs for largemouth and smallies.
Never tried the owner beast hook. What size is best for a 5.5 in swimbait?
Why am I missing so many fish this way?!?
could you use those weighted hooks for other plastics besides swimbaits?
Yes you can.
what size hook works best for a 3.5 keitech easy shiner
Have you heard of the owner flashy swimmer hook?
+Harris Schoeberl Yes, we've used them.
have you tried the Strike King Rage Swimmers? How are keitech swimbaits compared to the rage?
Virtually identical but the rage is stiffer. It doesn't have the same action in cold water but in cool to warm water its great.
Would the 4/0 owner beast be good for a skinny dipper or would it be to big
Should be just fine
What does the Keitech Swim Baits have that the other paddle baits don't? What makes them the bait to buy?
Action and smell. You have to try them to experience it because they sure aren't pretty.
awesome thanks for the tips and advice on rigging swimbaits
+Ted McCarthy You're welcome!
Hey guys how do I keep my swim baits from rolling on side or all the way around?
thnx Matt and Tim.love the videos like always. so how do i get one of those bad ass hoodies? You got any TB face shields yet?
Email tacticalbassinapparel@gmail.com for the hoodies... no shields yet
Do you still use pork? Or have plastics replaced it completely?
Still use the last of a dwindling supply
what do you use to edit videos I want to start making videos also
hello I am just starting to learn how to fish for bass can you do some videos for beginners, please
Great video guys thanks
is there a way to rig the new zoom swimmer weedless?
What rod and reel combo do you use to throw this set up?
If you open the video description below the video its all in there including links to each of the rod/reel/line/baits, etc... that we're using.
Hooksets for the weedless weighted version? Thanks!
as soon as you feel any weight on the line... swing for the fences. but if they just crush the bait, you can sweep your rod to either side.
What's that underspin brand? No link in the description.
+DanLewis Hey Dan, head over to our website... www.tacticalbassin.com and you'll find links for every product we mentioned in the description.
+tacticalbassin ok. Do you have a preferred size of Matt Allen swimbait heads to use with the 4.8 Keitechs?
Do you think bass can see line or red hooks underwater?

For a 4.3 would you use a 3/0 or a 4/0 ?
Thx 4 the video. But for a newbie I wish you would show close up video of how to rig keitech swim bait and show up close what your talking about sticking a toothpick in where to keep the bait on the hook longer..this is just constructive criticism. I do really appreciate your knowledge and videos, i just need to see so i can learn better. Thx.
Could you use a Mustad 4/0 size hook to fish it weed less ?
you can use any size hook you want. it’s just all relative to what size of bait you’re using. on any 4.8” baits I use a 5/0.
I was thinking a video on how someone transports their bait casting rods, like the 7+ footers.I have a smaller bed on my truck and do not have a boat.
When I travel without the boat I usually put them in the cab of the truck (Passenger seat angled to rear driver side).
Nice video just wish you guys had more close ups of the bait 👍🏻
how do fish a lake with little structure, just a mud bottom?
Johnny Schoeberl Drag a football jig along the bottom and feel for ANY difference in the bottom. If there is ANYTHING different, focus ALL of your efforts on that spot. Hope that helps :-)
Matt - you might want to slow your hand movements down and get much closer to the camera so we can see everything you're explaining. Good stuff!
Did I completely miss the rod specs?
3.8 inch or 4.3 inch for the keitech swimbaits?
that is a 4.8 but a 4.3 would be great too
