🧶If I remember correctly, most of the remaining crocheted blankets were in pastel/baby colors. 💙💗 Hopefully I can convince my dad that these blankets will be put to much better use donated to a women's shelter or Rainbow Babies & Children Hospital up in Cleveland. 🌈
I still save the best for last. I will be 68 this month and the last seems a lot closer than it ever did (I am healthy at this time but can't deny I am vintage). You have given me a clue-by-4 to the side of the head today - I have been saving some bath oil for over 30 years now that my late mom really used to love because it bring back such strong memories when I do use it (maybe once a year). Lately I have realized I have the memories anyway whether I have the bath oil or not. Similarly, I have the unicorn skeins of yarn that seem too precious to use unless I use them perfectly on the perfect project knitted perfectly which will then be the best of all time. Right? RIGHT? I am going to take this to heart and treat today as a special day. I am as worth it as anybody.
Oof, the perfect project for special stuff. I keep telling myself I'm going to stop doing that and I'm getting better at it. I still have yak cashmere that's probably getting up to about 10 years old already. I keep telling myself I will make gloves with it. Maybe I'm just waiting to feel like making gloves. That's really interesting about the bath oil. To this day anything that's like Jean Naté reminds us of my great grandmother and I remember my mom holding on to some for AGES beyond its usability. Shame nobody ever got to use it...
I have an old quilt of my grandmothers hanging on a quilt rack. I love it, it reminds me of my grandma and I see and enjoy it everyday. I have had people tell me that it will get ruined by hanging up and being in the sun. They keep their quilts in special boxes under their bed to preserve them. However, I want to see my quilt all the time and enjoy it. I would use it on my bed but the stitching is very old and I do think would fall apart after some use. If I kept it under my bed in a special box, it would last longer but I would not get to enjoy it.
Yes, the blanket ladder trend is also great for that stuff. I think a some fading may add to the charm personally. There are things that I get may make sense in a memory bin but anymore I just want to see and use my treasures.
So relate my mind has been changing since I started decluttering my home over 2 years ago. I don't want a bunch of stuff sitting around that is piled up & I don't use or want. What I want is a to 4 month stash of emergency supplies now that makes sense to me food batteries flashlights etc. My hubby even bought the old metal small coffee makers he could make coffee perulators on a the bbq if he had too lol Good point to remind us Holly.
I got one of those for my dad for Father's day! Most of his Christmas list was power outage helpful things to have. Then I realized he was saying he could get by without coffee so I got him a drip coffee thing so he could just heat some up on the grill or the propane hotplate. It just makes me sad when I think of all the stuff that barely saw the light of day in my grandparents' homes that ended up being tossed or sold at estate. I can learn from that though!
For me it was "good cloths“ - only wearing them on special occasions while wearing cheaper ones. Only wearing them 3 times and then, 3 years later, having gained weight... Today I buy something I really like and I can wear/enjoy everyday. It does not make sense to buy double just in case when u can just use good stuff everyday.
Exactly! Like what's the worst that can happen? I keep getting stuff on my shirts lately because suddenly I can't eat without dropping something. But it's 2024. There's a stain remover for everything even if you have to run it through a second wash. 💜 It did take a lot to convince myself to buy "real" clothes at my size but I'm so glad I did.
Oh Holly, I don't know you did it, this is so relevant to me right now. We haven't had power or internet for 3 days so far. I threw away so much. Keeping in case of emergency. Also, I decluttered my wardrobe. Guess who has no clean clothes now! I'm not hoarding food ever again. I'm also going to buy a few articles of clothing. 🎉 As always, you are the best for really making me think!🎉
Oh no!!! It never occurred to me that keeping up on laundry would be a good idea for power outages. 😳 I guess I should stop procrastinating while the last round of storms has passed. I've been without power here and there but it just didn't occur to me...
@ManageableLiving it probably would have been OK, but I hadn't done it for a couple of days prior! Also, I'm sad I'm missing the Olympics. The power company just said, "August 8th before all have power." Sigh.

@@ManageableLiving Yes its true its a sad feeling to find treasures not used. We are trying to do better & change our own habits.

A great reminder!!!
Thanks for hanging out 💜
