      Photo mode is my favorite one to use. I use the photo mode most often because it can enable one to get even better results than video mode.

    Great videos, night lapse in my case now it’s not possible unless I’ll sleep on the beach but I want to combine night and day, means from night to sunrise. Logically shutter have to be set on auto, interval 15s, WB 400k, BR high, Color neutral, Sharpness medium. Problem is now ISO, 100/800. I’ll start filming 3h before sunrise and 1 hour after. Any recommendations?

      Those settings look great to me. Those should work pretty well and give good results for a night time day time lapse. Those are the most difficult type of time lapse to master.

      @@GreatDayForAHike Thanks. My biggest issue is that I cannot get the background all black, as I'm filming in the middle of my city and there are automated night lamps around - and buildings close by.

      Yes, it’s because EV Comp is not applicable and really not useful in the night lapse mode. This is applicable to normal, daylight shooting.

    I’ve done a few nightlapse successfull. But now the camera seems to quit half way through the night. My battery pack is a 20,000 mh which still registers plenty of power in the morning. I don’t see the lightning bolt over my battery icon on screen unless I stop the recording. Does the hero 10 respond to moisture in the air, like the humidity?

      You can use Adobe Lightroom if you shoot the photos in RAW and want to edit the photos. If you don’t want to edit the photos then you would import them into a video editing program in sequence such as Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Both Adobe programs do have a cost associated with them but DaVinci Resolve has a powerful free version. • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Due to the interval being 15-30 seconds depending on shutter speed this will limit the length of the night lapse, but one option for making it is a bit longer is to interpret the 29.97 fps footage as 23.98 fps when editing the night lapse. By doing this it will make the overall length 20% longer and the night lapse will “move” a bit slower

    Good stuff.
    I've had some night lapse success with the Hero 9. This one has some Milky Way included. th-cam.com/video/3O97k7F9Dys/w-d-xo.html Using the video mode, my settings were ISO Min/Max at 1600. 20 second shutter and WB 4000. Also used the Scheduled Capture setting. But that usually needs a power pack that stays "always on" rather than turning off when the GoPro is powered down. My choice is the Voltaic Systems V25 6,400mAh USB Always On Battery.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interval is in auto because when the shutter speed is set to 15s or 30s that interval will automatically match the shutter speed. You could set the interval manually to 15s or 30s but as long as the interval matches your shutter speed it won’t make any difference vs leaving it at auto.

    Hi, in Format my GoPro didn't let me switch from a photo time lapse to a video time lapse. Might it be because it's a Hero 8? Is this a function only on the Hero 9? Thanks for any advice you can lend on this.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GoPro Hero 8 should allow you to use video time lapse as well. However, if that option is grayed out there may be another setting that needs to be changed first to allow for this. I’ve had to play around with the menus a bit sometimes when certain settings were grayed out. I recommend maybe changing the lens setting and a few others on that specific menu to see if the video option then becomes available.

    Hello, can anyone help me with a big problem of my gopro hero 7 black?
    The problem is: when i put the nightlapse mode and change the shutter from auto to 30s, the white balance always locks to 5500k and it's impossibile to change it.
    If i try to change the white balance, it always returns to 5500k.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen this issue mentioned out there on GoPro forums. Some GoPro Hero 7 Black owners said updating the firmware fixed this for them but others said it did not. Others said it temporarily fixed the issue for them and then the issue came back. So it sounds like this may be some type of software issue.
      It is possible to change the white balance later on as a work-around but that does of course require editing when the goal for this mode is to not have to edit.
      I’ll let you know if I see any definitive solutions for this and maybe someone else reading this will have some ideas as well.

      The main way to slow things down is to use a shorter interval. Doing this means more pictures (two times as many as 30 seconds). 15 seconds is an option for a night lapse interval. It won’t capture as much light but would still easily capture lightning.
