    I try to find a way to use mine in a fun way everyday. I just bought my first go pro about a month ago. It’s the 10 hero black w/some mods. I literally have no idea what I’m doing. Lol I live where the world around me is beautiful and nearly unreal in all ways. Thank you for helping me learn how to use my new fun toy. 🥰🥳 ~Sheeara, Alaska

    Hi Shayne i love your videos and the way of use technics to capture pics. Some bingers thinks they need best gadgets to capture good pictures thats maybe wrong because practice and dedication is most important. In photography we need patience as well try and try and try. I have request please make series on Go Pro time lap and time wrap settings like what interval we need iso fps.So who have Go Pro maybe they do more with there gadgets. Hope so you understand what i mean to say. Good luck.

    Great video to watch and that's one great shot of milky way with your gopro! Gopro and smartphone are so good for astrophotography these days. I own the Pixel 4 smartphone and it's fantastic but I've not tested it due to the covid-19 pandemic. I was planning to travel to the Highlands of Scotland as being I wanted to try it out because the highlands have lots of areas where it's so dark like isle of Skye and magnifficent Glencoe. Even out side fort william. I recently bought Gopro hero 7 black and great little action camera. I use stellarium on phone. How good will gopro hero 7 will be compared to gopro 8? I like lightroom mobile. Does it matter if you use any micro sd card? I'm going to try this when pandemic ends to make my own shots and time lapse footage. I own Hauwei p20pro smartphone for astrophotography. I loved how you used the rock in image as it makes the image look better.

    The quik app doesnt give you the raw (.gpr) file. If you use the app to export, you are working on the .jpg that the GoPro created. In order to access the .gpr file, you need to fetch it directly from the card.
    I am not sure if snapseed supports .gpr file. Lightroom does support it.

      @ShayneMostyn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s interesting. The GP has an equivalent focal length of 16mm so the 500 rule should let it shoot for 30 seconds. Are you setting it up with a narrower zoom in the menu?

      Shayne Mostyn - Mobile Photography thank you for the reply. I understand now. I'm using actually an old Pentax K5 with a 300mm zoom lense so I was getting the trail. Now I changed to 18mm and it's almost perfect. Thanks and 2021 is a good year for all so we can go out freely to use our cameras.

    Can you actually see the milky way as well as it shows in the picture with the naked eye? Or is that just the camera picking up the colors/details of the milky way? Where i live i can sometimes see the milky way if there is no moon and no clouds, but even then, the start are just slightly more clustered than the rest of the sky. I have heard that you can see more stars depending whether you live in the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere, is this true? Does time of year affect the amount of stars seen? Thanks so much!

    • @ShayneMostyn
      @ShayneMostyn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gday mate, you can see parts of it with the naked eye. Not the orange gas "cloud" but the line of stars. Has nothing to do with northern vs southern hemisphere that I am aware of. Has everything to do with the amount of light pollution around. The time of year affects where stars will be, not so much if you can see them more. For example, the galactic core is seen here (Australia) between March and November.

    Hi! Many thanks for this great video. I tried to replicate this with my GoPro 11. However, whenever I take a photo night lapse, the exposure of the resulting photos is much (!) lower than what I set. For example, I set a shutter of 30s with an interval of 60s, but the resulting photos only have 1/3s exposure time (I checked it in Lightroom). All other modes work fine, I can for example shoot a night photo (not timelapse) with 30s exposrue without problems. Can you maybe try/confirm this on your GoPro 11, if you have one? I would like to know if it's a general bug or specific to my camera. Many thanks in advance!

      I'm gonna check this on mine. I can take a good looking photo but a night lapse just turns out dark. It's set to 30sec but I will check that it actually is 30 sec.

  • @petesig93

    The GoPro is nice and I use two Hero10s to get footage for my bicycle-touring videos now. But I do not see any relevance for star-shots. On a tour or outing where I take the GoPro for its compact versatility, I will never be able to capture such night star shots, as the gear needed is an encumbrance, and I rarely have the time for it. For planned star-shooting I would be taking the car and always aim to get much better quality images by taking my DSLR, suitable lenses, a sturdy tripod AND torches to light up any foreground components. The GoPro simply does not compare, and it loses a lot of detail in any low-light parts of the image; ie. lots of graininess.
