    I Love it, it handles great, looks great and sounds great. It is a very anti vehicle SRV with the way the main gun works with the Scarab better for quick anti personnel. I think it would make a good anti air platform at ground CZs and destroying new enemy drop in troops as they are all grouped together. The insane jitter is a little much to begin with imo, I would like to see it reduce a little quicker but I'm hoping we can engineer it very soon, then we can use vehicle schematics. Also different weapon types that we can swap out, a rail gun would be BEAST!

      I'd want a mining beam on mine, or even perhaps a Mortar(though the latter would get abused unless it had a large jitter like IRL mortar weapons tend to have, rarely landing in the same place back to back)

      Literally had a friend shoot down a Frontline Vulture dropship with this thing, it's a beast! It also rides lower than the Scarab, which helps smaller ships deploy them (my Courier struggles to deploy a Scarab that won't get stuck for example)

    I also think that the possibility is that the weapon isn't the selling point of the scorpion but rather the increase to armor and shield hitpoints, because the scarab really doesn't do well against on foot weaponry and ESPECIALLY the enforcer missiles, so it seems like its more to give survivability than anything else, hence the weapon needs more time to zone in because you're essentially able to sit there under fire with a lot less risk.

      Sure, the shield buff helps, but they still regenerate slowly. Not sure if you even meant it, but I don't think it's really for tanking, more for giving some extra time to quicly fight or flight a tough spot. Personally, I would have liked some small resistances on the armor. If for no other reason than it looks like it should have some anyway.

      I tried it out to support me when overtaking settlements and it can't compare to the scarab in terms of kills per minute. In both cases i need to juke the enemy infantry, but scarab just gets the job done quicker and that's the bottom line

    I think the scorpion isn't for small targets, I suspect we will end up shooting defences or some sort of thargoid planet based thing

      I think for AX surface operations a hybrid Guardian Sentinel SRV would be more fit for the job (and also much cooler looking)

      Yeah in my experience the Scorpion sucks as an IFV, but is quite good as an AFV

    I've found that the Scorpion isn't great for taking out enemy ships, but it IS good at disabling them: 5 rockets KO's a Vultures engines, which is more or less just as good as they're out of the fight.

      If your engines are destroyed in atmosphere you're in deep shit.
      Both your shields and engines would be down, maybe you'd survive but you'd have to be lucky.

    Now, i havent played in a while, so it may already be this way, but i'd like to see SRV upgrades that are basically just like ship upgrades.
    Want to throw on a 1F rail gun that is super accurate and damaging, but requires you to fire it at less than 0.5RPS to prevent overheating, and a maximum fire rate of 1.25RPS with a maximum of 3 shots at this rate before you completely drain your energy
    power distribution that has more capacity, but recharges more slowly.
    Shields that have a lower capacity but recharge, and rebuild after failure extremely fast

    I noticed that it doesn't have the prospecting radar the Scarab has, so you can't just completely abandon the Scarab if you want an SRV for exploration. It might be more incentive for installing a dual hangar module to carry one of each. The Scorpion would be rather useful for going into Guardian ruins and deal with those sentry drones.

      yep. its basically what dual srv hangars have needed to be truly useful lol. with a more combat focused srv, hopefully this gives fdev some incentive to add more combat mission types. maybe some that go from one place to another making the srv the better option than going on foot.

    I stacked a bunch of planetary scan missions (and actually landed, didn’t just scan beacon with ship) scorpion was pretty fun. It kills the lg and sm skimmers, takes out defense turrets. Pretty muck destroyed everything and it can take a hit for sure.

    After using it for a while in a high CZ, it feels weird that a requirement of good dps is wasting dozens of shots while i wait for the jitter to disappear. And then, interrupting fire for even a split second and you have to deal with jitter again. The missile rack also has way too little ammo for regular use.

    I agree with your thoughts on what Frontier have tried to do re balance. Plus I think it's part of the combined arms approach - go on foot or use the scarab if taking on NPC troops, while have a team mate in support in a scorpion taking out fixed defences, Goliaths or ships. And, of course, we don't know yet the potential applications when it will come to ground combat against Thargoids.

    dps is based on if you can hit the target. it can hit the side of a barn when inside the barn it us useless against on foot outside of about 40 m. Use the old srv for troops

    Multicrew question in regards to materials;
    If I scan a data point or pick up a canister of engineering material while in multicrew, does one or both get them? if one is it the "host" or the driver?

    Also worth noting that unlike the Scarab, the Scorpion can recharge its SYS capacitor faster than shield rebuilding drains it, so it can actually rebuild its shield at full speed the entire time.

    I like it personally but I think it will need a tuning pass to make it a bit better at ground troops. It's nice to be able to just ride with a friend from ship to locations together instead of having to split up. Now I'm waiting for that two man surface mining SRV and surface mining. Then the Cargo SRV =)

      It's anti material and a suppressive weapon not anti personal. It makes sense to have a scarab and scorpion working as a team.

      @@timesthree5757 But that makes no sense to be honest. There is no need for an anti air or material weapon now. It's designed illogically where as any weapon would be MOST accurate on initial shots, not building up to become more accurate. It's just a bad gamey design that failed in my opinion. There's not a point to it's existence in the current tuning.

      @@revelation_jeff2951 actually it makes alot of sense. The idea of an anti material and suppressive fire is to defalaid the enemy into a kill zone. Use the Scorpion to to push the enemy to a pre planed kill zone.
      Lastly stop being ocd about it and just have fun. It NOT a faild game mechanic. It's gamers that take games way too seriously.

    Interesting. Wonder what that thing would do against Guardian sentries. Granted, they are not all that difficult with the older SRV but this thing might just rip them out of the sky in a second or two. Might be fun if Frontier revisits the sentries and makes them more of a challenge to take out.

    It's very nice that they added a new srv with more combat capabilities. But in Odyssey I also have new functionalities for exobiologists and some srv dedicated to them would be useful. It could even be an old scarab, but with an additional scanner for biological finds, as we have for meteorites.

    The Scarab still rules for settlement activation missions where you have to gun down a bunch of scavengers. The Scarab is pretty good on guardian sites for taking out the guardian sentinels.

    The jitter is deliberate to go “every where” so it has a kill zone like a machine gun has. I guess the zoning in, is because the weapon works out it needs more concentration after a few seconds firing at the same area.

    I think that weapon jitter thing is the most elegant solution they've come up with for a while. I like how it feels to play with, I like how it balances things.
    Not crazy about the design of the thing. I think recent designs are a bit too Star Citizen inspired. I always felt like Elite was more of a cyberpunk or 80s retrofuturist world, but whatever. It's cool.

      @@timesthree5757 I don't really care much about which game is getting inspiration from which or when, I just don't find SC's aesthetic very interesting, and I'd like ED to be.. idk, you get the impression these things have been in space for generations, you know? century old designs and stuff, tinkered with over time, hulks refitted for purpose.
      The future military thing SC does is just a bit.. meh. Generic.
      That's me though. Scorpion does look decent, and the sound design team aced it again.

    The Scorpion looks like it would make for a good anti-vehicular, anti-skimmer platform rather than an anti-personal. I do love the looks though. However, the main gun reminds me a bit too much of the Hyperion guns from Borderlands, how you have to sustain fire to gradually have better shot accuracy. And I *hate* most Hyperion weapons for anything other than looks in that game. The missile launcher seems like it could be good for getting groups of air-dropped scavengers just as their climbing out too, but I'd like to test that for myself if I can get the chance.
    All in all, it *seems* like it's a good idea, but I think it might need more extensive situational testing.
    As a side note, 4 cargo slots on the Scarab will certainly make things a little easier

    I like the Scorpion, I use it to soften up surface settlements( Im not that good yet on foot fps combat). Then you get out the arc cutter and pop the doors. I like being the reaper to criminal factions plus anarchy settlements are good practice plus you don't get bounties on your head.

    While you did show it on screen, a big part you didn't highlight was that the Scorpion has the scanner showing in the turret view, which isn't the case on the Scarab, making it much easier to keep track of your surroundings if there are multiple targets about.
    I tried the Scorpion out at Guardian Blueprint site and while I wouldn't say it was strictly 'better' than the Scarab, it was certainly easier to clear with the Scorpion.
    That shield boost means not really having to worry about pip management when attacked by multiple Guardian Sentinels, and a single rocket clears off about 75% of their armour which you can then easily mop up with the repeater. The slower speed and improved suspension meant that driving around the site was a much more comfortable experience too.
    As someone who has rinsed and repeated the Guardian sites many times already, I wasn't able to 'farm' it any faster or more efficiently using the Scorpion, but if anyone found them difficult, fiddly, or was simply put off trying them by the idea of the surface combat, then the Scorpion definitely lowers the bar for entry and makes that activity more accessible for more players.

      I wondered about suitability for Guardian sites too. Does the smaller ENG capacitor make it difficult to surmount the structures when needed?
      Does the reload while the repeater is in use?

      @@zedbox Only on the very lowest gravity planets is any 'jumping' feasible at all. It's only really there to help free yourself if you get stuck.
      There's a word missing there I think, but the missile launcher does reload while the repeater is in use if that was the question.
      Haven't tried it at Thargoid sites yet so don't know if the weapons are much better or worse against them.

    I'll get one of the new SRVs when I get back to the bubble...but I will likely miss the jump jets. Half the fun of driving the SRV is using the jump jets to jump over really big stuff.

    According to the symbol that showed when u shot ur ship at 3:25 the missile launcher does SHIELD GENERATOR DAMAGE? Like reverb cascade? is that confirmed or does it just display an incorrect symbol? @Down to Earth Astronomy

      it does do a little bit of shield gen damage

      Everything does shield damage, even multi-cannons will drain the shield's health (albeit slowly)

      @@GuyWithAHat It's not about draining the shields, but bleeding damage to the shield module. So far only mines and torpedoes engineered with reverberating cascade experimental effect did damage the shield generator when shield was hit.

    Love the review. Not yet had a chance to drive it. What happens when there are two people on board. Does the gunner position pop up, or does the gunner get a better camera view, scanner view or something?

      The gunner should be using the turret view the vast majority of the time. (Works the same as turret view in the pilot's seat.)

    The jitter is the actual point that it’s aiming at moving 3 degrees (yellow circle). The other thing with the spread starting wide then narrowing is not reflected in the stats and unrelated to the jitter mechanics

    Seems like more of a general purpose combat rover. I think it’s geared more toward ships than people. The trick will be to have this with a scarab. The point defense of a scarab with the cover for it from the air with the scorpion. I think both of these vehicles used properly together would be a formidable pair.

    i think the more tactical player of ED will find a way to use both of the SRVs together that will complement each other. i am looking forward to see what they come up with. never under estimate the player. :)

    Its not on console yet . Plus there is now a tab in the ship menu that says storage . Not active . Plus they say they now have to put a fix so that the stored modules , hardpoints and utilities tabs work again in outfitting

    How do you have a shorter vehicle with two seats, yet still able to carry two tonnes of stuffs? I'm not seeing much in the way of thrusters in the wheels, so is it affected badly in low g? Without the main thrusters, how can it jump at _all_ ? Can it still shoot rocks etc and scoop the contents or is it purely combat?

    Would you mind to do FPS comparison video, how it improved from the launch and even compare it to Horizons, how much the performance got hit even after update 9? Basically similar video you did just after launch of Odyssey. Just after update 9.
    I play Horizons and i would like to buy Odyssey on Christmas, but the low FPS is problem for me. I am used to have 144-240fps in games i play. I can hardly imagine playing any game on 30-50 fps…
    I have similar setup as you, so video like that would be very convenient for me :-)

    Now, I wanna ask about a very important part everyone seems to be missing when comparing the 2 SRVs: does the Scorpion have the Scarab's sensor suit and scanner? I need to know before purchasing one, because I want to use it in the Guardian sites.

    Great comparison video Astro… so I’m interested to know whether the Scorpion would be a better choice for visiting Guardian sites and taking down the Sentinels?

      It's not very good. The increased jitter makes it hard to hit them unless you are really close. The missiles are very good but you only have 12. Ammo and fuel are severely limited as well.

    I didn't notice a Wave Scanner in the video. I'm assuming the Scorpion doesn't have one to separate it a little from the Scarab in purpose. Is this right, or was it just turned off?

    The fact it’s smaller and weighs 27/28 tons more is awesome, but holy hell what took so long to add both the shield percentage and this srv? Now waiting for a mining one that can mine outcrops for way more materials.

    Thank you for the review, always helpful and nice to watch. I have 2 questions for you:
    1. In some ship you can carry 2 SRVs can you carry 1 of each in your haul?
    2. Is the new Scorpio SRV reserved to Odyssey expansion?
    I play on Xbox and I’m waiting patiently to be able to play Odyssey but I was wondering about these 2 questions.

      1. Yes. You can equip any mixture of Scarabs and Scorpions that you have the SRV bays for...
      2. Pretty sure this is Yes too, which means you'll need to wait for Odyssey. Haven't tried it myself but Yamiks went from Odyssey to Horizons and his Scorpion turned into a Scarab in Horizons, and stayed as a Scarab when he went back to Odyssey.

      @@MisterLindsay Turned into and remained a Scarab. That isn't good. I have Odyssey and play in Horizon's with friends who only have Horizon. They need to fix that.

    I'm a little conflicted about the jitter issue, but this is a game, not real life. So you have to make weird design decisions sometimes to balance things. But I do wonder if, since the damage per shot is lower, would it really throw things out of balance that much if your shots were more accurate when spacing them longer between manual shots, then ramp up the jitter when you go full auto.
    Preliminary opinions seem rather positive about the Scorpion. It's nice to see FDev getting praise for something for a change. :-)

      Heavy machine guns have jitter and are less accurate irl, not sure how shooting plasma instead of bullets would change that

    I think it is cool. I almost respect elite for not flooding their game with junk... With that said. I would like to see a Cobra ship the size of a big fish like Corvette or Anaconda

    Can totally confirm this thing eats guardian sentinels. Tested at Syneufe NL-N C23-4. Repeater pops them in 6 seconds, and rocket launcher just destroys them one shot.

    I would prefer it to be a more expensive better in all ways SRV with a weight penalty for the extra meapon/armour. I really don't like the Jitter. I wanted to just replace all my scarabs with scorpions, now I am not so sure. I like that it appears more stable and I am not too worried at the loss of jumping about (if planet surfaces improve to be more like Horizons so we can drive on them).

    I love the scorpion i really do but shame it doesent have wave scanner on it but each vehicle must have its specialties!

      It does have scanner. You just have to add it to your fire groups (composition and data) it’s not pre done, you have to add to fire group manually.

      @@silentjay3272 the Wave Scanner isn't something you need a fire group for, it's either active or it's not. I also noticed it was missing and this is an important feature depending what you're aims are.

      @@silentjay3272 which is a good thing because it shows the Scorpion has a purpose. If you were prospecting instead, you might have missed it. I usually turn it off when not in use anyway, damn that thing is noisy 😁

      less points of contact with ground means there more pressure so better grip, at least that how i see it.

    You forgot, the scorpion is a much better hill climber than the scarab. It can easily climb very steep gradients up to 80 degrees

    I used it very effectively to farm Guardian sites. Now that Guardian sentinels don't do as much damage and you have time to decide what to do before returning fire. I now have a ground mission Python set up with 2 Scarabs and 4 Scorpions.

    Being unable to man the gun from the gunner seat unless someone is in the driver seat is a potential issue. What happens if you are gunning and the driver decides to hop out. Are you then suddenly unable to defend yourself?

      I have never understood why other seat positions in this game are inoperable unless other players are present. Let me fool around in a ship turret for God sake. Let me fly a fighter while my npc flies a fighter. Let my npc crew member do something other than take a 10% cut for sitting around or flying a fighter!

      The only way to switch seats seems to be to leave the vehicle and then enter it again and you can get stuck in the transition for several seconds.

      be glad you don't find it in the horizon, the tank is empty after 200 meters, the reaper magazine only has 1000 shots; the rocket launcher only 2 shots - the scorpion drives like a stone on water

      the radar does not adapt to the zoom levels, if you already extend the radar halfway, then your SRV will also be larger there

    I wish you had gone over how to find it. Every military place I’ve gone to is out of stock on the srv even if they have the vehicle hanger. I can’t find it anywhere. Maybe it’s not actually out on Xbox yet?

    It doesn't really seem like it brings too much to the table. NPC's currently don't use SRV's are ships to fight you meaning it's going to me used to nuke groups of ground inf. You start getting enemy SRV's and small vessels like sidewinders in combat areas and this thing will shine.
