The cyber leader throwing up is just disturbing it really shows that no matter how they look there’s still a human in that shell
How do you know he's throwing up? Could be a broken life support system of some kind, leaking fluid from the mask. Like the foam coming from the dying cybermen in Tomb of the Cybermen.
@@SStupendous It's darker and cooler to think he's throwing up. Like the human inside is vomiting stomach acid that now due to the conversion process has turned pale white. In my mind the 80's Cybermen are the most disgusting Cybermen. The jaw is still visible, they scream in agony upon death, and when i picture what the human looks like inside...brrrrr....It's not pretty.

I thought it was more like coughing up blood.
Without a real budget they managed to make this thing scary as hell in its utter simplicity. I'm expecting a figurine of the robot any day now.

There was one once.
According to The Doctor, the Raston Warrior Robots were the deadliest robots ever created. In a sci-fi franchise packed to the brim with various robots, cyborgs, mutants, and aliens, that's saying a lot.
To be fair, there aren't a lot of actual _robots,_ let alone ones designed for war. Heck, even the Cybermen are technically cyborgs (and the Daleks are living creatures in life support tanks).
Apparently this scene was partly caused by disagreement among writers. Script editor Terrance Dicks didn't like Cybermen so didn't include them when he was writing. Eric Saward liked them so added them to The Five Doctors as he was script editor. Now writer Terrance Dicks responded by adding the Raston Warrior Robot to fuck them up.
Whatever brought it about, this was certainly one of the most badass moments in classic Who.

The commentary track goes into more detail about this. One thing worth noting is that Terrance didn't write the actual choreography for this fight. In fact he was surprised at how brutal it was.

I like to see the Raston Warrior Robot return in New Who. The Raston Warrior Robot slaying the Cybermen is one of Doctor Who's most violent moments.

Oh man, It's just wishful thinking but Imagine a Terminator 1 style Doctor Who episode where it's the return of the Raston Warrior Robot, maybe with the ability to Disguise itself like the Terminators do, be a good Homage with a Modern twist that make returning classic villains work so well.
The fucking little jump at the end is delightful like "YAY I SLAUGHTERED THEM ALL :)"

A fraction of a second of more CyberPuke can make all the difference! That’s what I tell my film studies students.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who saw that. The cyberman vamiting is probably the most disturbing thing in this scene.
It does remind us that behind the helmet and the suit there still are the remains of what once was a human being, and that the cybermen still can be vulnerable and be hurted. Just like in that scene where the 10th doctor deactivates a cybermen as it speaked about having cold and being about to get married. Then we realized that used to be a woman before the conversion.
This scene looks like a tokusatsu battle because of the 16mm film footage

And to think, this is the third doctors only tv story with the cybermen.
And just think, previous to this scene it was Sarah Janes only interaction with the Master. The most iconic companion never met Drs arch enemy till that novelty scene
It's amusing: two of the Cybermen fired their weapons at the Raston Warrior Robot, but did no damage, as it was standing there long enough for the Cyberweapons to have some affect....
Those Cybermen firing shots were added to the Special Edition. In the original, they just lined up to get mown down, and they looked a bit pathetic. At least now they tried to put up a fight. Sort of.

One of the cybermen vamited. I think it's almost comical how they cry out in agony when they are mortally wounded, yet they aren't supposed to feel pain. Also there's something about this that reminds of the scene in Monty python's holy grail with the guy who calls himself Tim.

I feel their pain suppresants just get damaged and thats why they cry in pain. I also like the idea that cybermen, still being humans, retain their natural survival instinct through the conversion. This is why we see them panicking in attack of the cybermen when the bomb is about to go off and when ones arm is on fire.

That is one of the reasons I love the special edition of the Five Doctors. Having the Cybermen try to fire back (with no effect) was a real improvement to this awesome scene (bring back the Raston Warrior Robot in a new series).

Quick note: despite how fearsome the Cybermen are, even within the Doctor Who Universe (in this episode, they were said to be banned from the Deathzone because they are "too good"), they are 0-2 to fights against other villains (the Daleks vs Cybermen fight in Doomsday basically had the Daleks just sitting there absorbing the Cybermen's blasters and killing them one by one.
Edit: I guess they defeated all of Gallifrey... but the Time Lords make no sense on a power level (how they both managed to get invaded by some Sontarans and win the Time War is mind-boggling).

This story arc was my 1st time seeing any Who episodes (after only vaguely knowing the name from some comic ads and a few mentions). What an awesomely intense introduction to one of the coolest franchises ever.
Still scary even though the Cybermen didn’t fire once and just sat there. I supposed it was supposed to be so quick like Xmen but 83 style.

Got lucky in the 70s 🇬🇧, turned the HMV tv on and this was on ,this was unbelievably AWESOME as a kid who loves sci-fi, I'm 53 now and I found this awesome clip of the brutal I'm gonna fk you up Raston Warrior Robot 🤖, with an army of Rastons I could defeat the Sholocks on Gedi Primus 7 just beyond the outer rings of the sarcoid system.💯🇬🇧🤠

This is genuinely the funniest thing I’ve watched in ages.
Here is my version of The Five Doctors On the surface, the Third Doctor and Jo, Steven and Bret come across a Raston Warrior Robot. According to the Doctor, it is "the most perfect killing machine ever devised". Able to move with blinding speed and fire bolts of metal at its targets, it detects its victims by motion. The Doctor and Jo, Steven and Bret cannot move without attracting the robot's attention, but luck is on their side when a squad of Cybermen and daleks and quarks come over the ridge. The robot quickly eliminates the entire Cyber and daleks and quarks squad. Taking advantage of the distraction, the Doctor and jo, steven and bret run past the robot, taking some wire and spare bolts from its cave.
I'd love to see the Raston Warrior Robot engaging in hand to hand combat. One kick from it would pulverise a cyberman, and it could gracefully dance among a squad of them while happily tearing off arms, snapping legs, and disemboweling.
Then, once it realises that its pathetic tin prey is truly no threat to it, it would start playing with them with grappling - converting them into amusing pretzel like shapes, and crushing them down into the size of basketballs.
This scene played out a lot cooler in my head when I read the novelization of "The Five Doctors" at the age of 8 or 9.
Writing and a child's imagination go a long way. I remember loving the novelisation of Warrors of the Deep. Then I saw the actual story....ugh.
ok so heres the thing im an american who hasn't really had access to dr who especially the older episodes from the 60's to the 80s BUT! given my love of gerry anderson stuff and japanese tokustatsu stuff i can firmly say that this is REALLY COOL!!! =D what i like especially is the simplicity of the Gaston warrior robot in many ways from its design to how it fights so again i just think its neat how they used the small budget to its advantage and in having a simpler design made something that feels timeless due to it and to be completely honest this is one of my fave robots now in any media

The Cybermen don't really appear to have any idea of Tactics, do they? - Lumbering about and not - for example - firing from cover at the enemy or synchronising their attacks so it has to deal with multiple foes at once.
Seeing the cyber leader throwing up makes you realise - these are augmented humans. As the robot does maybe the man returns briefly only in order to die alongside his jailer.

Oddly, according to the commentary track he felt this scene went a bit overboard. He didn't specifically write the action sequence. It was down to JNT who directed it.

So, when did the Raston Warrior first appear in Who episodes?
I think this was the only appearance of a Raston Warrior Robot in the show.
However, the costume had previously appeared in Earthshock - ironically as androids controlled by the Cybermen. Those were black. The costume was painted silver for The Five Doctors.
