    Thanks for all the great comments! A problem with one person trying to do a video every two weeks (especially when the videos take a lot of editing like these) is that you make some mistakes. Thankfully some of you have pointed them out so I can correct them here:
    At best, industrial was influenced a bit by goth in the 80's, and didn't cause as big of a shift as my wording implies. The new Black Doldrums album is "In Limerance." The soundtrack Kaelan Mikla recently worked on is "The Phantom Carriage." The genre I couldn't bring to mind when talking about Chain Cult is death rock. Boy Harsher consider themselves an EBM band, which is a whole other thing from goth, and descended more from industrial than goth. But since they have a lot of goth appeal, I would've included them anyway, just maybe pointed this out. And even when I watch interviews to see how to pronounce Molchat Doma correctly, I'm a dork who still can't manage it.

    • @chameleon47
      @chameleon47 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, just say this! Well stated! Glad to hear that Boy Harsher understands that they are EBM. They are not darkwave, thus not goth. Doesn't make them any less cool or good.
      Also, I still don't know how to pronounce Molchat Doma. LMAO.

    • @lunarabenherz
      @lunarabenherz หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chameleon47Mol- as "Mall", -chat as "chut" (not a word, but maybe you can read it easier?). Accent on "chut".
      Doma - accent on the end.
      By the way, the bands name means "The Houses Keep Silent"

I'm a little surprised that neither Lebanon Hanover nor She Past Away were on here as they seem to be two of the bigger modern goth bands, but I do think they both formed in 2012 so maybe they just miss your cut-off date.

      @@eclecticism-uk For me personally, Gothic-Rock has always been my favorite genre. Beyond that though, it legitimately feels like the genre is experiencing somewhat of a revival.
      The Cure's new album "Songs from the Lost World" is easily their darkest album since Disintegration, maybe even Pornography, and it spent most of November at #1 on the Billboard charts. A number of bands you listed here also managed to get on the lower tiers of the charts, a major accomplishment for a non-mainstream genre in general.

    I am new here on your channel and so honored that there are channels covering new goth bands as just from the usual old 80's and early 90's goth bands .I do see most of the bands that was mentioned here has still have that classic post punk and darkwave as we all know very well and one of them is Twin Tribes which i really have most respect for. I would really want to see more of new modern goth bands been mentioned in here . A very great band is the Awakening who is originally from South Africa but now based in the USA since 2009 .The band is originally driven by one person who is a songwriter/vocalist and multi instrumental artist whose music is described as Gothic rock/New wave/ dark wave/ industrial which i think needs to be looked as well and is currently releasing a new Album in October under same name as the band. Another great band from Germany which i also want to see featured in here is WISBORG who also have that darkwave / goth rock/ synth pop influences .Thank you so much for this review and let us support more Goth music and bands out there

    sorry this comment refers to ‘undiscovered or influential but forgotten 80s Goth’ but in 1986 England ,a cool nipper in our pub lent me an album with Chinese or Soviet Communist Party cover art & the sound inside was for its time was absolutely nuts - where Rockabilly met Industrial. i think the band was one guy called Foetus / Scraping Foetus & the album was titled Hole & released in 84,85 or 86.
    when i1st heard NiN many years after as an out of touch grandpa,i immediately recalled a track on Hole called “I’ll meet you in Poland Baby” from a decade before the 1st NiN album.

    Wow, just found your channel and it’s amazing!
    Only checked out your Goth videos so far but don’t worry, I think judging by the quality of these two, I’ll be watching the rest over the next couple of days.
    Being from the UK, “Creeper” are a pretty big deal over here and have been for a few years now. I would also HIGHLY recommend William Gould’s side project band “Salem”. They can be a pain to find because they share their name with a couple of other acts; so instead try searching for the video to “Draculads” on here and thank me later😅
    Finally, if you’re looking for a new(ish) Death Rock outfit that wears its influences very firmly on its sleeve, ( Christian Death, Sisters, Cult, Mission, etc.), then the excellent “Black Angel” come highly recommend. Again, with their name being a bit generic, so a few personal favourite tracks would be “Kiss of Death”, “Breathe” & “Serpent’s Kiss”.

    Thank you for this! I am such a fan of the goth 80's melancholy music genre and have found a great deal of bands like this on Spotify (some of yours as well)! I am so glad this type of music is making a comeback! Have you also heard of Sacred Skin and Topographies?

      Thanks for the comment! Yeah, pretty much everything that feels dark and 80's inspired is a great combo for me, too, from goth to death rock to synth pop. I recently started listening to Topographies thanks to a comment on this video, but I've still not hear Sacred Skin. Thanks for the rec, I'll check them out!

    Great overview on modern Goth/Darkwave artists. Consider the following acts for the next instalment - In Letter Form from the US, Talk To Her (Italy), Deathtrippers (UK), Golden Age Of Nothing (UK) and of course us - The Scarlet Hour (UK). We’ve had over 3k views on our video for Torment, released our debut album Warnings last year on vinyl and released our 2nd EP Pursuit.

    There's this band from Mexico City called Stranger and Lovers. They play a blend of post punk, dark wave and even some EBM in their albums.
    If you're looking for something that sounds straight out of a vampire club, this is the band for you.
    Songs: Death song, Masochistic love, Atado junto a ti, and Blood dance

    Informative video. Always looking for new music in this genre. I find goth and darkwave can sound samey , samey at times , so I feel good songwriting, is even more important in the genre.
    My top artists are Actors, Cold Cave, Zola Jesus and most definitely Boy Harsher. Glad you mentioned House of Harm, being from Boston, have seen them 3 times and feel their song writing has improved quite a bit.
    I’ve just discovered an artist called Silent Mass, a bit shoegaze as well as goth.

    • @eclecticism-uk
      @eclecticism-uk  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooh, that's a good list. I thought about Cold Cave and Zola, but both had been around too long for this particular topic... but I'm sure I'll cover more goth and goth-adjacent artists in the future.
      Somehow I'd actually never come across Actors until I started seeing their name in these comments. I'm not sure how that happened... actually, I suspect when people have mentioned them I've assumed they were talking about Actress, who I've been a fan of for a long time. Now that I've started listening, I'm really enjoying them. And Silent Mass makes gorgeous music... I'm listening to their debut for the first time right now and can already tell I'm gonna be into this.
