FOH Engineer POV: Saosin | Lost Symphonies | Live at Irving Plaza, NY

Would recommend to listen with headphones but I thought it would be cool to show you one song from the Saosin gig I am working. This is one of their songs called Lost Symphonies. This is my point of view at show time! If this video does well I will make a video of a day in the life of a touring FOH engineer.

I've liked Saosin pretty well since 2007, but I never cared to check out the first EP until today. Lost Symphonies is definitely the best song on the EP, in my opinion. So I just went around watching old videos of them performing it in 2005-2006. Finding this video was extra cool! I love FOH videos or when we get board uploads of the audio, sooooo good!

I've been a recording engineer for the most part, and I'll be interning as a live sound engineer soon, so watching this vid really helps give an idea of what to expect/care for during live (plus Saosin is one of my favorite bands). Thanks for posting this.

Sounds totally disjointed and not in the same space. I don't know if it's a culmination of all the individual pieces or it's just the over all mix. Saosin being one of my all time favorite studio bands, are like the SmashingPumpkins and can't pull it together live. No harmony or coherency, just cacophony - and not the good kind. Again, it's not the music or the musicians, it's the production and how it's presented.

Keep in mind this is raw board audio for FOH engineers. Meaning what the board is putting out to the L&R speakers and subs. Most video productions you hear of live shows don’t show the true board audio but show the polished re-record “live” show. I will say that with amps and being in the room it’s a worth seeing show.
