This escort quest was the first time you formally interact with Mirano, but she's actually one of the more prominent NPCs in Trails in the Sky. She's a traveling merchant from Bose, who you can first meet right at the start of FC, at the bar in Rolent (she was in town to buy some lumber and septium). Her father--also a merchant, and in spite of that (because of that?) a fierce business rival of hers--was one of the passengers aboard the hijacked airliner, and in spite of their rivalry, she dropped her own operations in order to keep his afloat while he was missing. Estelle and company frequently run across her and her assistant Simon (a Ricky lookalike) throughout Liberl, always searching for new business opportunities.
I really like the interactions we see between Joshua and Josette because she's very similar to FC Estelle and you can tell Joshua is clearly being reminded of Estelle whenever he talks to her, his whole dark brooding demeanor drops a bit every time. But at the same time, as much as she reminds him of her, Josette isn't Estelle. She doesn't have that connection, history, or bond with Joshua that would let her *really* understand him. She does her best, but he just keeps pushing her away no matter what angle she tries. It's also really funny because you KNOW if Estelle knew any of this she would hate the idea that Joshua would see any hint of her in that greasy, annoying tomboy.
@@SpanishFly120 They might be similar at first look, but their inside is different. They are described as tomboy because they are both unyielding and firm on their belief. Yet, Josette is the one to "wait until he comes back", while Estelle is the one to "i'm gonna chase after him". This might be due to their life experiences. Josette had too many things not going her way, that she has a tendency of being afraid of failure. Estelle has always been the star of everyone (literally, estelle means "star"), and she will not accept being failed at something. If you are comparing, Josette is very similar to Cloe in this regard, as they both take a step back.

When you think about it, Josette is basically Tron Bonne from Mega Man Legends! She’s a tomboy sky pirate who runs a crew with her two brothers with a giant airship and has a crush on the male protagonist! All she needs now is an army of loyal Servbots that do her bidding on top of her human workers.
The series consistently makes it a big deal to go to a grave to pay respects and everyone leaving eachother alone. I’m thinking it’s a nice ceasefire moment for writers to be able to have characters interact that would normally not peacefully talk.
So Nico this is where that space art Dark Matter starts to become really broken. You were wondering how to get all the enemies together for Zin to destroy with his Thunder God Kick? Well Dark Matter has a suction effect that brings all of the enemies to the center where you cast it putting them all together for a brutal combo if you can time it right. It can trivialize pretty much any mob fight in the game from here on out.
That's Dark Matter Ex you're talking about and it isn't usable by players in this game, only in 3rd. The Lost Mobius art does the same thing, though, but it requires quite a few elemental points.
People say Josette should watch out for Estelle later, but honestly I’m more worried about what Kloe would do to Joshua. That girl won’t take any excuse from the guy for her best friend Estelle.

There's side characters and even random NPCs that get that in side content. It's one of the themes I really enjoy about these games, even if they do make it weird sometimes with the whole "step siblings to lovers" type, but like, overall, I enjoy it.
Before continuing on with the story there is a fairly minor missable you can get by going to go talk to the fisherman Kuwano's wife. It's really unimportant if you're going for max bp (which is why it wasn't mentioned in the guide), but it is really funny.

First off, the fact that Hamel is a state secret in Liberl means that there's more to what had happened to it. And it's a high chance that the landslide which Olivier had mentioned was what the people of Erebonia were told by their government. Of course, Joshua and Lowee both being from Hamel do mean that they're the only ones who truly knows what had happened. Second, guess Cassius wasn't the only dad who gave his daughter a person as a present. Since that's what Maybelle's dad did when he took Lila in. I mean seriously, the aftermath of the 100 days war had allowed for Joshua and Lila to have a chance at happiness even if the circumstances are different, as it was five years after that Joshua was taken in by Cassius while Lila was taken in by Maybelle's dad shortly after the war had ended.
You know what tends to cause landslides?? Mining recklessly without regulation or risk prevention, the residue is piled up but it takes one rain to produce a "natural" disaster... oh hey, is that an abandoned mine near bose?? how did that end up there, i wonder... (you made me realize this)
Wow, these few sidequests with Lila and the Jaegers are interesting. Thinking about it, those Jaegers did mention going to Lake Valleria. Calling it now, this will be when Estelle and Josh reunite again (but I don't think he'll be joining us . . . . yet). Basing this off of 2 factors- Story wise when you have separations like this, there's always a brief reunion before separating again- *Points to Kingdom Hearts 2 when it comes to King Mickey* and gameplay wise, our crew still has to catch up to Josh's level.
judging by the amount of how he likes it, I would be surprised if he doesn't play it. Question is if he takes a break after SC or jumps right into 3rd. I could see it going both ways.

I love how the game kinda parallels the relationship between Lila and Maybelle with the relationship between Joshua and Estelle. Lila and Joshua were both traumatized as children and both reacted to their trauma by shutting down. Maybelle and Estelle provided them with the love and support that they needed to start healing their mental wounds. At the same time, by not discussing the past, Lila and Joshua weren't able to process what happened. Lila began to view Raini as deceased and Joshua viewed his life with the Brights as a dream. Estelle realized that similarity during this quest, and it was something she needed to see. Now, we wait for some npc somewhere to confirm that Lila and Maybelle got married as we wait for Joshua and Estelle to do the same.
It's not like you need is since, the aqua master is superior in every way to every other rod. but you can get a new fishing rod at this point by going back to bose and talk to that old man's wife in the first house to the left. She was my least favourite NPC in the original game.
Where are the badges the bracers are wearing? They aren’t wearing suits with lapels so they can’t present them like a certain attorney we all know and love.
That Maybelle and Lila quest and little mini-storyline is one of my favourites in the Sky series. It shows how much they've gone through together and gives a greater example of how the 100 Day War has impacted people. Also yeah, things show how close the two are. They really are quite gay for each - I mean, good roommates with each other, and it's actually really heartwarming.
Hamel: A small village in the middle of nowhere that suddenly got destroyed by some kind of natural/unnatural event with little to no survivors...sounds like another small village that got destroyed in another JRPG...I swear if you end up going to Hamel either in this game or the next game and it's fully undamaged and the people who live there gaslight you into believing that nothing bad ever happened to it I might be a little suspicious

Josette calling Joshua "un-cute" got me thinking of Ranma 1/2.
Wonder if she changes into a boy if we splash her with water?
Wow, I can't believe they showed the most omnipotent character in the whole series.
It's not like you need is since, the aqua master is superior in every way to every other rod. but you can get a new fishing rod at this point by going back to bose and talk to that old man's wife in the first house to the left. She was my least favourite NPC in the original game.
Feels like this entire playthrough you never pick Schera, damn you. XP
That comment of the day made me laugh out loud for so long! Thank you for that funny comment.
Y'know what song I just realized would be perfect for Gambler Jack?
"Shape of My Heart" by Sting.
Nico please dont forget to report this quests.
Look at you! You are already almost 60 hours in, and you are half done...
Eh this is really more like 65-70% of the way through.
Yeah it's a bit more than half. Still a good chunk of game left though.
I hope Josette becomes a party member
I'm kinda surprised you didn't recognize Lila, I knew it was her before my pc finished rendering the picture
I clicked so fast
Too bad Kurt found It only after It ate Wilfred Brimley!
Nico has problems recognising blue haired women.
"Who's the blue haired jaeger?"
Nobody whose name you need to remember... be sure to tell him that when you run into him. XD
😊🏆🏆🏆
All I can say is, I'm glad I never shipped Joshua with Estelle.
