I got my 2022 model 8 or 9 months ago. Absolutely loved it, aside from the infamous frame cracking around the seatpost. Someone just stole it a few days ago and here I am missing it and watching other Giant Revolt bike reviews and videos at 2 am :(
Someone just stole my Giant Contend 3 last night. I had a kryptonite U-lock and they cut the sign post in half with a saw. To look on the bright side, the bike was only $600 USD and now I get to buy a better beauty. Sorry for your loss.
Nice review, I've been shopping for new gravel bike several months now; not much in stock, still. Great job, appreciate your candor about pros and cons.
Hey Steve! Thank you. What bikes were you considering? I have ended up purchasing a Cervelo Aspero but I’m still waiting for it, having ordered it in august but delivery times are a nightmare! Only buy what you can see is in stock with your own eyes imho
I agree with pretty much everything you said here. I’ve owned this exact bike (different color) for about two years now. I upgraded to some Just Riding Along sub 1400 gram carbon wheels which *really* livened up the bike and improved its cornering. Also launches easier now. The stock wheels were so heavy. Also a swapped out the entire groupset for a mismatch Shimano GRX 1x12. Also found a steal on an Easton carbon handlebar. Those upgrades dropped the bike to under 20lbs. However, the seat post is a legit reason I would consider getting rid of this bike. No structural issues with it but I’ve started riding some gnarlier gravel bike races and a dropper post would really be incredible to have. I still have all of the original components and will likely put those back in and sell, then build up a frameset or buy a lower tier carbon build. Either way, great bike overall and the fact you can find them for $1500ish used is a great deal, especially if you are able to slowly upgrade. The dang seat post tho!!
i was very interested in this bike until i heard ab the seat stay issue. ended up buying the salsa Fargo. I'm more into mountain biking so the Fargo has been a great winter option for me
Hi Patrick I have this bike and I'm having trouble with a creaking seat post. I agree with you I wish the bike came with a normal seat post. Did you have this same problem and how did you fix it. Thanks
FYI, have your frames seat tube inspected thoroughly because there is a known issue with the 1st gen Revolt Advanced frames where they will crack right where the end of the seatpost is just above the water bottle cage. Giant is aware of the issue and will replace your frame with a 2022 model if you are the original purchaser.
Great video. I appreciate the honest and clear evaluation. I want to try a carbon Revolt but I have heard about issues with the “press fit” bottom bracket. Can anyone comment about my concerns? Many thanks in advance.
Press fit SUCKS!! Compared to BSA, it’s just so stupid. You literally have to HAMMER OUT the BB to change it. So I personally will always opt for BSA if possible. But, having said that, I have never had problems with any of my press fit BBs so far, so it wouldn’t be a dealbreaker if I were to choose a bike. I hope this makes sense haha
Great video Patrick! May I ask how tall are you and what is your seat height? I am thinking of buying a similar bike and I ask these to choose the right frame size. Thanks!
Hello! I'm 190cm and my saddle varies but i believe it is around 78 to 81 cm depending on cleat setup. This giant is an XL size, I wish I had gotten the L
Really enjoyed the video! ...As stock is still very low where I live (Philippines), I cannot find a Giant Defy but I can get a 2022 Giant Revolt Advanced 2 and wondered whether if I can just swap out the 38mm tyres for 32mm version on the same rim?
Hi pokeken, yes I believe you can; personally I would suggest u try out some specialized pathfinder pro tyres if you do any sort of mixed road + off-road riding, they really roll super well
Hello! please do you know if it is possible to use absolute black chainrings for praxis alba 2D cranks? Unfortunately my original set is broken and I would like to "upgrade", but have only old cranks... Thank you very much for your reply
Great video Patrick! Really well done! I ordered a 2022 Revolt and I'm wondering if you thought about changing the handlebars and if so, to what model? The one I ordered comes with 42cm wide bars but I run 38cm with 12 degree flare on my road bike. I'm guessing if I use the same bar dimensions from my road bike bars, the width in the drops won't be wide enough for stability on rougher trails. Good luck with the Aspero! I heard it's fast and aggressive!
Hey Ivan, thanks for watching. Coincidentally I have taken the revolt with me on a trip, and before leaving I switched the bars with the ones I had on my road bike (40c no flare). I did this because I needed the bike to be a hybrid that could switch between road and gravel. The bars feel the same tbh. I’m not sure I understood your question correctly: Would you like to have wider bars in the drop? Cheers
@@PatrickDelorenziThanks. Good to know it didn't feel much different. Because I will ride 50/50 road/gravel, I would like to match the width at the hoods with my road bike. But for gravel and rough roads, it would be nice if it was a fair bit wider in the drops for stability, especially on descents. Anyway it's good to know you think it feels the same. Cheers
Great color, the naff braking setup put me off the Revolt, I think they look nice but a rider I met that had a Santa Cruz Stigmata said he rode one and it handled like a truck, you kind of confirmed it with your review.
Hahha that’s a great comparison 😂 it’s so slow to react on flats and climbs. The only benefit is on downhills, it is really stable. Personally I don’t think I would buy it again, unless it was a very very good deal and came with some lighter wheels
Got myself a Contend Ar with cxr1carbon wheelset(sub 1400gr, challenge getaway 40 mm tyres, slr carbon seatpost180gr, saddle170gr and handlebar192gr.easton ec90sl crankset 47/32-586gramm...ready to ride with pedals283gr, 2bottlecages and wahoo bolt ...8,5kg...not Bad for aluminium frame. Crankset and saddle seatpost and handlebar i had from another project, so Not too much spend.
@@PatrickDelorenzi yes I found that it’s an older model of advanced 2. I think I got confused because there is revolt 2 and there is revolt advanced 2. I could be wrong though but thanks for the clarification

Noooo that sucks!! So sorry man

I just got my trek mtb stolen last month, now considering buy a gravel bike for commute

Awesome vid man, up in the air between the new advanced 2 or advanced 3 and after watching your video I think I'll be splurging on the 2!
PS. when I took one for a test ride, I tried a large size (I'm 188cm) and it feels super comfortable.
Thanks for the vid!
Hey Beige! I think L will fit you perfect 👍
@@PatrickDelorenzi thanks brotha!

Hey James, my post creaks but very slightly, and is slightly pointing to the right 😂 but unfortunately I have no solution up to this point

Thanks for the reply. Your comment makes sense. I’ll see what kind of a price I get from my local bike shop. Merry Christmas and thank you.
I’ve got a Revolt Advanced Pro 1 and have had it a couple years now and have had zero issues with the bottom bracket.
Want to get this bike but man that external cable is unsightly, its a turn off. This day and age that dangling cable is quite a sin in bike design.
Hahha send giant an email

Hey Ross, I have gotten a Cervelo Aspero GRX 600 with a 2x setup

Swap the px wheels for a good lighter set up. Px2 are heavy, bout 2kg.

Man that’s really light! I agree the wheels need to go.. clunky AF
Even Giant is Asian brand but its bike is always bigger than others. I found mine S sized CX bike is equivalent to M size Trek bikes.
Truly “Giant” bike frames 🤣
Booking 2022 model
Nice man! Solid choice, I love mine
Why does the title says advanced 2 and in the video you’re saying revolt 2. It’s confusing to me because I can’t recognise one from the other
The bike brand is Giant, and the bike model is called "Revolt Advanced 2"
