Okay so you probably won't believe this but I just arrived home from work after a bit of a rough day so I put my supercompressor on to cheer myself up and stuck on TH-cam and the first video is this one. I definitely feel cheered up now 🙂 The wife's brutal gas meter comment notwithstanding, I love this watch.
Circula, a German microbrand, also makes a genuine supercompressor. The owner, Cornelius, is a great guy and he might just be willing to send in a review sample 😉
Sadly, the RZE doesn't appear to be in stock. However, you are spot on where Farer is concerned. They have their titanium Aqua Compressor for USD $1200. It's rather nicer looking in a minimalist style.
Thanks for putting this watch on my radar, Russ! My Longines Heritage diver is just a compressor style case but this is the real deal. Love the decompression scale dial.
Farer have a Supercompressor in Titanium. The technology is a little different. It's still based on the compressor principle. RZE also had a, supercomputer but I don't think that's currently available.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Do look up the Milus Archimedes - it is a proper super compressor. The Archimedes is historically faithful to the original Milus Archimedes from 60 years back. It is as expensive as the CW compressor.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR True, but smarte an cheaper, if you ask me. The two-piece case back which allows tightening of the back with a minimum of gasket deformation. The crystal solution is much less common and may even be unique to the Vostok design. Initial water tightness depends on a compression of the carefully designed crystal cross section for insertion to keep the edges pressed tightly against the inside front ledge of the case. From there the design of the crystal cross section takes over to transfer increased water pressure on the crystal to increase pressure between the crystal edge and case.
My question exactly. I like CW but what were they thinking? All the hype about being a real super compressor, and it is depth rated less than their regular dive watches? I can't "fathom" why they would put this out with less than a 300m rating.
@@bmjamesThank goodness they didn't. Vintage super compressors were only expected to perform to 150m. There's a reason they fell out of favor. To make it 300m it would have become a hulking chunk of steel on the wrist instead of this lovely little number you can wear every day for all the same desk diving it would experience whether it was rated for 300m or 3000m.
One thing I've learnt from this channel... usually 150m means 15ATM atmospheric water resistance, which is good enough for swimming and snorkeling. However, if it is ISO diver certified, then the 150m water resistance is actually 150m water resistant. In the literal sense.
My Seiko SRPE93 has 50M MORE water resistance (ISO certified as well), better lume, and a day/date function in 2 languages for 1/3 of the price. I will definitely not be buying this one.
Welcome back Mr P! Nice to have some originality back on the channel 😂 Very cool to see a genuine super compressor case from Christopher Ward. It’s probably not for everyone but that’s ok, there’s a watch out there for everyone. Christopher Ward continue to do a great job of giving watch enthusiasts loads to be excited about! Fantastic show MWC 👏👏👏👏
Just pray that you don't have to deal with the headache of their customer service! Over the last few years CW prices have gone way up and their customer service has gone way down! Dissapointing to see from a brand that was doing everything right for so long.
It's neat but how is it less water resistant than the 90's SKX on my wrist right now? Not that my desk goes down to 200m, just figured a watch called the Supercompressor would go a bit deeper. These are odd times, glad the illustrious Mr. P is here to pull us through. 😂
That’s an awesome watch. I did not realize they were the only ones making a “true” super compressor. Now I swim as well as a mob snitch so I don’t need my watches to super compress or even mildly compress. Super cool watch and review. Thanks!
2 things: 1) mad watch collector would be awesome to have a beer with! 2) the watch has neat colors, but seems gimmicky and like it would fail underwater in my opinion
I just purchased the other Christopher Ward supercompressor - the standard version - as I thought it was more handsome (and cheaper). Farer have also been making a supercompressor for a while.
Really like this one! Just the width of the inner rotatable bezel is a bit beyond me. Sherpa watches brought back the true (EPSA) Super Compressor for me personally in the most intriguing way. But different price category!

@@DaveHughes-t5d I suppose I agree up to a certain point but $1500 for a "dive watch" that can only do 150m is excessive. Especially with this overhyped "super compressor" case.

I have the super compressor before this one. Blue dial with the twin flag logo. Great watch for the money where the quality shines through. I like this new one, but is too limiting for my taste. Mine can be a dive watch, every day watch, even gets away as a dressier watch when wearing a suit. Though overall if you want that funky retro look CW has nailed it again!
I love the wifie’s comments. Can u tell us what kind of work she does? She seems so normal, so practical. I’m guessing she is in either the medical or accounting professions???
Props to CW for their re-innovation of the SC technology. For comparison look at the Mido Ocean Star Decompression model, with a similar dial based on 60's era diver dials. Both Jenny and Ocean Crawler produce similar de-comp dial models (neither is a super compressor) Neither the CW or Mido watch is a simple decomp chart, proper dive training would explain how those dials work. BTW, the CW is chronometer rated. Compared w/ the original CW SC I find the new version less visually interesting, the wide timer ring and the orange stripes seem very 'simple' and not in a good way. The tiny indices further limit the watch for actual dive use. I do like your review, it's the watch that's a let down, not your work.
Apart from styling what is the point of this old tech in making a divers watch when it's dive rating is only 150m which is far less than even the average cheap divers watch that are 200m. Even my Christopher Ward C60 pro has 300m rating. So this watch that you go on about its water depth rating system is a far worse watch than the other divers they sell. And if its just for styling then it can be had in a normal diver that is made to look like a super compressor.
