I also agree with your take on the X's cost. There was a discussion on WatchCrunch specifically on whether or not this is too expensive, this was my thought (fwiw): The Twelve X is a titanium sports watch with an in-house COSC movement with 120 hour power reserve for $4865. The Bell & Ross BR05 Skeleton is stainless steel, uses a Sellita SW300 and charges $6900. The Maurice LaCroix Masterpiece Skeleton is in stainless steel, uses a base Valjoux 7750 and they charge $7400. If we want in-house, the closest is the Oris ProPilot X in titanium with a 10 day power reserve for $7600 or the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 for $13,500. I personally think that there is a resemblance of the CW to the Piaget Polo Skeleton, but that one's $28,500. My point of course is this: is the Twelve X a lot of money? Yes, $5k is a lot of money for most people, absolutely. Is it a lot of money for what you are buying, relative to what the market is for watches with a similar design or features? Not even remotely. I don't see what the problem is, beyond the complaint that it's a CW. Everyone's favorite watch company, Seiko, sells watches anywhere from $50ish dollars to $420,000. I have no issue with CW offering a premium watch with excellent finishing and excellent mechanics at an off-the-shelf price, even if that off-the-shelf price is higher than most of its collection.
THIS IS EXACTLY IT! And I wish I thought of comparing it to similar watches that are out there!!! Because I think that's what drives home the fact that it is reasonably priced for what it is. I agree completely with everything you said here!
There's that way of looking at the question, the -other- way I look at it... through the second hand market. You can get a Zenith Defy Extreme 1/100th Chronograph with patience for a bit more for example. That's not an apples to apples comparison, for sure, but in the end we all do that when we ponder what to get with the money we earn with our sweat. They price hike is very very steep per se, and CW decided to forget about its core value just when the horology market has been going down the drain, two years steady, so idk who's buying the watch, this is not going to be a Bel Canto. I hope CW makes a 36 case version so Britt buys it and I can say I know one person who owns it :D
CW isn’t a price bracket, it’s a price multiple. They are open about pricing at 3x cost. I think it’s great that they do higher horology as well as more entry stuff
@Antonio-qn2el they haven't forgotten their core value at all, this watches retail price is still set at 3 X cost ..the reason its expensive is because its expensive to make.
@@davids.2317 idk about that, more like x5. I doubt the cost is higher than $1k. SH21 watches are $2k-ish, isolate the cost of the movement from that price range applying the rule inversely. Then, there are full titanium sport integrated watches in the market for less than $500 -selling for a profit as everyone in the business-. Isolate the cost of the titanium parts. You can also follow another route, take a twelve titanium ($2k-ish) and account for the added cost of the SH21 movement. How's that $3k? Math does not check.
Wow, your channel is really growing! Those exclusive interviews were next level access! Im with you: I'm sized out of this one, but if it was smaller (which, of course, it won't be), I'd be saving my pennies as we speak. As an aside, I'm always interested in watch collector's opinions if skeletonized dials - it's such a divisive design choice among collectors, yet the two skeletonized watches that I own in my collection (I'm counting the Bel Canto in that) get BY FAR the most attention and comments from non-collectors. For the average individual, they think that it's fascinating.
LOL, honestly, I think the top tier content like those exclusive interviews are really causing my channel growth. Just amazing access... ;) hahaha! You know, this kinda feels like an entire video: skeletonised watches: yay or nay?! ;) It's niche! But that's what we do around here!
Thanks for this video Britt! Loving CW and what they are doing - this is a watch I’ll be checking out. When I saw the CW team in San Francisco last month, I didn’t even know about the Twelve X - was completely bore sighted on the Moonphase (now happily on the wrist).
I like the Twelve and ordered one in Ti with the expandable Twelve X bracelet. I tried the X when they launched it at Worn & Wound in San Francisco. Nice watch -- unless you want to tell time. Serious legibility issues. But go CW!
Great company. I got an original sh21 dress watch half price because they were changing the font, still perfect after nearly 10 years. No need for Nomos or Vachers
Agree that CW has been doing amazing stuff. As an owner of the Bel Canto and Twelve Ti, they are great watches. Will be looking at this one closely as well. Thanks Britt!
@@TheBajamin definitely. A watch that chimes on the hour at that price point? Nothing comes close to it. This one is a bit more money and I can appreciate what they are trying to do here but the Bel Camto still wins for me
I really like this watch! I'm currently waiting for mine! it looks really cool! I showed my wife this watch and she loved it! so much that she bought the "blue ice cream" twelve. it looks really cool on her wrist and she swapped the Rolex for the CW. not saying its better, but she gets asked a lot about her CW. no one asked her about her Rolex...
I own the 12 and it is my daily wear; a lovely watch but I can’t see the date (eyes not as good as they used to be). Have an “X” on order and also a Bel Canto which I think will now both arrive around the same time. Really like that this is a great English brand delivering superb quality at what I feel is great value. Will need to resist wearing them all the time though as I do with the 12! Always looked to get a Rolex, but still don’t own one, moving my sights to a brand that really seams in touch with its customers. The 1908 Rolex does look a beautiful watch however…
It's always fun to watch your videos also because you are very talented in creating pleasant and clear videos, and also because I, as a man, also have a narrow hand like yours, and I always get from your videos information about the wearing experience if I had the watch, which is very helpful 🙏 And you really need to review the 12 36mm in titanium
Whaaaat! Thank you so much! this comment has absolutely made my day! I really have been trying to become a better watch reviewer, and I am just trying to get a little better with every video.
100% agree. CW is always here for value. They are the epitome of transparency with their 3x rule. Was quite impressed when I handled it a few weeks back. Just a handsome watch all around I gotta say. People would never give Zenith rubbish for pricing a Defy Skyline at where they are🤷🏻♀️. It’s just the reality of things. Congrats on 200k!!!
Great review! I agree with your conclusion that this watch is worth the money and I can say that with authority since I own the predecessor to this watch, the Christopher Ward C60 Concept, which sold for £3,495. Both watches are incredible examples of modern watch engineering and would cost 2-5X if sold by some other brand.
Impressed you have access to these people to interview about their high end products😂😂 I love your edits Brit and love the fact you don’t take yourself too serious 👍
I wish Mido and Christopher Ward were available in my country. Even Nivada Grenchen is available, here. Can't wait for CW. This looks better than the Oris PPX.
What a very very very nice looking watch 🤩 Love that they even made the twin barrels open. And yes, not inexpensive but you do get something nice for your money. Nice going on the editing 😃 Cheers Britt 🥳
I mostly love it. I'm not put off by the price. I am put off by the thickness, especially how it seems to "float" rather than "rest" on the wrist to me.
I would buy the stainless 12 if it had the sw300 because I don’t like the look of titanium and I want the cosc movement, i would gladly pay extra but i emailed them to no avail. Can you pull some strings?
Really appreciate your sizing commentary. In this age where the majority of us will purchase watches without the benefit of trying them on I think your guide is a major value add.
Just received mine after a 6/7 month wait and I love it, just ordered a black rubber strap as my normal twelve on the rubber strap is very comfortable.
You provide useful information and an entertaining commentary. You might want to reconsider the facial distortions, for emphasis, as they truly detract from your presentation. Thanks and best wishes in the coming weeks to you and your husband.
Great video. I love the piece except for 1 thing. The hands seem to blend into the skeleton and make it a little harder to read the time. Perhaps in person that's not the case. But from all of the videos and photos I see of the watch, it does seem to be a challenge.
Oh my goodness, you’re funny. I like how you throw in your sense of humour into your reviews. It’s makes for a fun and entertaining watch (😉) all while delivering thoughtful commentary.
That is a very neat watch. Looks great. I had a sort of skeleton phase some years ago when I was really into skeleton watches, but I am not into them as much anymore. But this has been done quite well. Decently legible with a nicely executed in-house movement that looks very nice in a skeleton watch. However, I still very much love the dial of the original Twelve, with its pattern and especially the dark blue fumé dial version, which also costs less, so I would probably prefer that. I do agree with you, the price is quite reasonable compared to other skeleton watches, some with lower quality off-the-shelf movements. This looks quite premium, placed above the original Twelve. Perhaps CW wants to bring out more premium models, which would me interesting, but I hope they do not ignore their ~$1,000 segment watches, which they have definitely not been ignoring lately.
I would have to agree it’s worth the price tag, except on Joma shop, there is an Oris Big Crown skeleton for just a little bit more so now I am really torn in this hypothetical situation where I have $5000+ to spend on a skeleton watch.
CW fan boy here. Currently own three and gave another to my Son. Great value for money and great designs but this is doing nothing for me, even if I had the disposable cash to purchase it. Must admit though, I thought that about the original C65, with the 12 and 6 markers, blue dial. Until I got my hands on it. Now its one of my favorite watches. To me, CW are making a statement about their skills and pushing for a wider customer base. Understandable, I knew someday they would try to add to that "best watches under £1000" banner.
I am currently considering this watch,Longines conquest heritage power reserve,Tudor BB 58 gmt and Cartier Tank must extra large … Make me struggling for few weeks already
the lavender is still my favourite and i hate that they didnt make a matching strap for it, only the black which ruins the look. This one is ok. the backside is interesting but the front only shows 2 big barrels which doesnt do very much, and i am not into grey/black but i like CW for trying new things. Im curious what comes next :)
The CW Twelve X can also be compared to the very similar Oris Propilot X calibre 115, which is twice the price - making the CW an even better value proposition.
This is the same price as a Tudor which is machine finished aswell, with the cw you get 120hours of power reserve and a beautiful timepiece that not everyone will own, I would also bet this goes up in price In the future where as the Tudors will go down. Excellent watch
Yes! I've heard someone else make that comparison when I was doing research for this one. But you're absolutely right± The CW definitely = a better value proposition when compared to it's closest competition!
As with the iPhone X, the X is the Roman 10 here, I assume? - On the Belcanto the entire case is grade 5 titanium and the entire watch is so special that £3500 seems fair. For £4000 you can get a used Panerai Titanio 8-day. Exhibition case back and 300m water resistant. 192 hours of power reserve. Yes they are not known for great finishing, but if you have the wrist - for example 7” and above - then it’s a good fit.
The micro-adjust butterfly is the best looking I've seen. Other manufacturers' look a little funky when extended. Hopefully, this clasp will be used more often.
This is a beautiful watch. And I can carry it off. I like a bigger watch and this would not be the biggest in my collection were I to acquire one. I just don’t think it’s the style for me. I’m kinda partial to watches with dials. 😎 It seems to be a trend toward “in-house” movements and “in house” movements tend to be big. Personally, I perfectly happy with off-the-shelf movements, many of which are very high quality, very robust, and certifiable for accuracy. For this CW, in-house makes sense because it’s part of the design. But otherwise, I don’t really see the need except for bragging rights.
Albertus! You nailed it! This is my biggest problem with the trend towards in house - everything gets bigger. -.- Even when you think of OMEGA, like when you wear the neo-vintage Seamasters - they feel so dang elegant! But the co-axial doesn't help in the thickness department either ;) But off the shelf movements are great! Easy to service, tried and tested.
I’m sure this is sponsored by CW. How else did you get those exclusive interviews eh? ;-) Great review BTW - thanks. Regarding the watch, I really like the view from the back! It like the movement is occupying the box of the crystal. Looks great!
I do believe this is a great value watch, however has everybody forgot about the full ceramic case and bracelet ,high tech skeleton watch for around £3800?
CW makes excellent watches. I started buying them over 5 years ago and back then people were still very iffy on the brand, compared to now. They’re finally getting more credit and pushing boundaries too, is great to see.
Fairly recently bought a 12 Ti, upgrading the one notch for the COSC movement and thinner case. I can't stop wearing it. I could justify the upgrade to the titanium due to the upgrades on offer, but can't justify the the Twelve X. I don't love the look of it, and is *thicker.* Nice flex from Christopher Ward though.
@@BrittPearceWatches I bought the TI blue in November 23, loving it, constantly +4 sec per day, and only some light scratches on the clasp which is better than I expected for grade 2 Ti. I live in Australia where it's hot and humid, a thin light watch is perfect for summer, in Winter I can wear my BB41 diver. Thanks for the informative videos.
Christopher Ward is becoming quite the juggernaut. That is one very cool statement piece. A bit above my financial comfort zone, but it's a helluva watch. 👍
I'm a fan of skeleton watches. I think the choice of black as a secondary color is what throws me off. I'd be expecting something warmer to offset the gray of the movement works. It needs a bit of brightness or even gold to offset the starkness.
Love the watch, always been fascinated with skeleton watches. Thanks for showing us cool and nice watches. There one Christopher Ward watch that I would like to get later [C60 Pro 300 Bronze].
just FYI grade 5 Ti is not "better" than grade 2 Ti. They have different alloy compositions and are used for different things. It is apples and oranges. If anything, grade 2 can be preferred because superior corrosion resistance is a more desirable property than superior tensile strength on watches... Really dislike whichever industry person that came up with the grade 5 > grade 2 selling point
Not sure that this is their most expensive, and it’s not their first skeleton. These signature pieces come and go. Unless I’m missing something, CW doesn’t provide an online archive of their discontinued watches for the public. For example, knowing the SH21 movement has been implemented previously, I couldn’t search for watches with that movement (prior to the Twelve X). Perhaps seeing precedence would take some of the steam out of the novelties.
The watches from Christopher Ward are amazing and the prices are compelling. I just can't get myself into buying a watch named after a person. I don't know why. For me it does not matter if the name is Christopher Ward, Girard-Perregaux, Daniel Wellington or San Martin. Rolex, Tudor, Longines, Oris, Casio etc. - these names roll very smoothly over the tongue and let one identify with a timepiece rather a person I do not know personally.
To me it may be worth it but I think it will be a harder sell for them. The price point mentally will be hard for people to get into even more than the bel canto which has an interesting complication.
Bahaha only the REAL ONES who have made it to the end know about the eggplant! ;) OUUUU, THERE'S NOTHING MORE THRILLING than being on the website contemplating ! ;) LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU DO!
Your money and preference but as an owner of both Tudor and Grand Seiko, neither brand makes a watch as interesting as this at anywhere near this price point. Tudor literally has nothing skeletonized and you’d need to spend $350K to get something skeletonized from GS.
I wanted to ask some questions about the color of your husbands trousers, and how secure you must be in yourself to go that route, but I am not sure that this is the right forum. Great video Britt.

How else did you get those exclusive interviews eh? ;-)
Great review BTW - thanks.
Regarding the watch, I really like the view from the back! It like the movement is occupying the box of the crystal. Looks great!
I do believe this is a great value watch, however has everybody forgot about the full ceramic case and bracelet ,high tech skeleton watch for around £3800?
Must have 🤷🏻♂️
CW makes excellent watches. I started buying them over 5 years ago and back then people were still very iffy on the brand, compared to now. They’re finally getting more credit and pushing boundaries too, is great to see.
Waiting for them to release all of the Twelve models (specifically the Ti) w/ the microadjust bracelet before making a purchase 🤷🏻♂️
I think you've bought the right one! What a great choice! Biggest congrats on owning the Twelve Ti COSC! What dial colour did you go for ;)
@@BrittPearceWatches Blue..
I love what CW has been doing. They have the formula dialed in.
I will get the Twelve X when it becomes available in December.
Christopher Ward is becoming quite the juggernaut. That is one very cool statement piece. A bit above my financial comfort zone, but it's a helluva watch. 👍
When you said they sent you the watch, did they give it to you, or loan it to you?
Ordered mine, so beautiful.
what color are they?
ok SOLD. Adding one to my grail list.
Sincerely, humble Seiko-Citizen-Orient level guy
I love the face distortions. Keep it up. Very funny. Greta videos btw.
Thanks for another great review!😊
Huh, Mike France's lipstick game is surprisingly on point
I tried one on at windup and it's an amazing watch for sure
I'm a fan of skeleton watches. I think the choice of black as a secondary color is what throws me off. I'd be expecting something warmer to offset the gray of the movement works. It needs a bit of brightness or even gold to offset the starkness.
Your singing is definitely improving.
The Christopher Ward Forum, which is independent but supported by CW, has a full archive site of all their releases.
I own a CW MK3 600 Triton pro and I love it!!!
Love this watch, and compared to the Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton at £10k, this is a steal 🤩
The edits on this one 😂😂😂
🙌🏽🙌🏽🤣🤣
Date is difficult to read.
Im not a skellie guy but its better horology for the price than any equivelent.....
Best eyebrows ever. Ever.
For that amount of 💰 o think I would buy the Bel Canto instead. That being said I don’t disagree with the price and I do like the watch.
Can you review the Hermes h08 please !
for all specifications this watch is great , still skeletonized watches are not for me
To me it may be worth it but I think it will be a harder sell for them. The price point mentally will be hard for people to get into even more than the bel canto which has an interesting complication.
LOL I wasn't expecting the eggplant with the honk! I'm on the website thinking about throwing down that down-payment.
Bahaha only the REAL ONES who have made it to the end know about the eggplant! ;)
OUUUU, THERE'S NOTHING MORE THRILLING than being on the website contemplating ! ;) LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU DO!
Just waiting until the CW perpetual calendar then the Art Deco model then ultimately the Tourbillon before 2030.
It's cool that they made this but at that price point I'm picking up a Grand Seiko or a Tudor.
Your money and preference but as an owner of both Tudor and Grand Seiko, neither brand makes a watch as interesting as this at anywhere near this price point. Tudor literally has nothing skeletonized and you’d need to spend $350K to get something skeletonized from GS.
Unrelated: Are you originally Canadian? (Because how you say 'about'.)
Originally and still is! 🇨🇦
I really like the CW The Twelve. However, I'd like mine with a dial... 😅 😉
I can't fault you there! I have the Nordic Blue and I love it!
Another great review... also you are very cooo😎
Putting the price aside, That lug to lug will turn off a lot of people. Not to mention the huge CHRISTOPHER WARD on that rotor making it looking cheap.
What is wrong with machine finishing?
Christopher Ward did a beautiful finish on this ⌚.
I wanted to ask some questions about the color of your husbands trousers, and how secure you must be in yourself to go that route, but I am not sure that this is the right forum. Great video Britt.
I’m sat here very secure in some pink shorts right now……. Ask away 😂
