I remember when downtown used to be where everyone went shopping. I used to live like Twenty minutes away from downtown. I used to work on the sixth floor of the Landmark theater. It was a collection agency. Now people go shopping at the big malls that’s why downtown is like it is now. If they ( the people who did this video) would ask someone they know the reason why there’s no more shops. Just offices. There used to be several movie theaters downtown now there is movie theaters at Destiny USA. Our biggest mall.
You passed Several Movie Filming Locations, Big Time Adolescence ,The Binge , Adult World Etc ... Also You Over Looking The Walk Of Fame Under The Moniker Of The Landmark Theater.And Funk n' Waffle is where MGK Filmed Loco music video and Walton Street was in a Local lawyer commercial
4:39 That's Hanover Square. Back in the mid to late 00's that place was absolutely hopping. Great restaurants and bars back then. The real anchor places closed down a long time ago and so did the people. A lot of places seemed to close right at their peak. Bars that were packed Thursday through Sunday with live music and dancing, really good long time restaurants that just up and shut down, nobody buying them or taking over the spaces. The only two real originals left I can think of are Pastabilities and Kitty Hoynes, two of my all time favorite places. Either that, or they went and changed their winning formula for something "new" and lost all of their business.
I uesd too work to Syracuse and downtown Syracuse and everything has changed downtown and the bus route in Syracuse has changed every since I left Syracuse but I still go visit in Syracuse in summer time and fall times
Quite a bit of the area you walked around used to be the old bus terminal downtown, used to be overwhelmed with panhandlers. Difficult to develop an area with that history
Syracuse is truly a city in decline! All of the big industries that once provided employment for most of the population are now gone; Carrier, GE, Chrysler, GM and a host of other smaller companies have left. The only “employment “ left is insurance and financial services……….and of course lots of bars! But don’t worry; Micron is coming and in about 10 years some people will have a job (the current politicians keep telling everyone!). And don’t forget all the new housing projects coming once Route 81 is torn down and people start to find it impossible to get from one end of the city to the other! Syracuse will have so many new housing units/apartments and no one will be able to afford them! ………..but Syracuse will have them ( thanks Biden , Schumer, Walsh, McMahon, Hocul)…….you all will be gone but Syracuse will have to live with your “legacy “ forever!
I would be willing to bet you didn't walk down South Salina Street into the projects, they have murdered every day down there..Syracuse is one of the Cities with Black Crime out of control....Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, all have the same issues.....
