Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of MG 4 Electric 2022

  • Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
    - a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
    - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
    - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
    - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
    A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
    Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.
    All details on the Euro NCAP Website:

    "Lane Support : 3/4 - Euro NCAP" Can't say that in the real world. As a MG4 owner, I can confirm : the LKA/ELK can be really unreliable. It's baffling how what is meant to make you safer, is trying to kill you and/or the others. Gotta love the tedious steps to deactivate those EVERY SINGLE TIME you start drivng. Easy to forget and drive away.

      @@shaunpowelluk With all electric cars after 5-10 years . I like these MGs but EVs are not the answer for the future they are no better for the environment with how the batteries are made . The best solution is what a few manufacturers are doing it's Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars.

    • @shaunpowelluk
      @shaunpowelluk ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @ben3291 I own a hybrid which has a 13kwh battery from 2014 with 63,000 miles on the clock. It's arguably more hard-working than a traditional EV, as the engine never drives the wheels, but maintains a low state of charge when the battery runs out, and I always charge it to 100%. If you think about it, it fast charges the battery whilst the car in drive at highway speeds (the car in question is the Chevy Volt)
      At most, I've noticed a 10% drop in range. This is based on a technology built in the early 2000s.
      Hydrogen Fuel Cell has already been seen as impractical for normal consumer use. Perhaps for haulage, shipping and aircraft it has a place, but passenger vehicles requires lots of refuelling locations and HFC doesn't allow for that infrastructure as well as electric and ICE fuel.
      It's also notoriously more dangerous than even a traditional ICE car due to the high pressure storage under the passenger compartment. At least with modern batteries fire and other hazards are far less likely.

    • @benrgrogan
      @benrgrogan ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The majority of that section (vulnerable users) is weighted on how well the car protects the user, I guess because in many cases outside of the test scenario, the car will still hit a pedestrian, even if it has slowed. Unsuprisingly the emuch smaller MG4 does better at this.
      Interestingly you would expect the cars both to do as well as each other on the emergency braking, they presumably both have the same technology.

    if only the lane assist actually worked like that in real world scenarios, i had my mg4 for less then a day and the lane assist tried to drive me into oncomming traffic, and tried to drive me off the road repeadetly, not once did it actually keep me in my lane it always tried to make me depart from it in potentially fatal ways, the system is so dangerous i won't even do short trips with it enabled... also due to the stupid regulations forcing it to turn on every time to get a good ncap rating, they ruined an otherwise good car, especially because MG has software issues so even if i disable it before driving it'll come back on.

    • @sbomorse

      I had a ZS EV and it's lane assist was also somewhat lacking. The most irritating thing of all was the damn bonging it did constantly. I HATED that car and I would never have another MG again. My ZS spent 2 months off the road in its first 10 months for various things, one of which the dealer couldn't fix so I rejected it.
