  • Thanks for watching, this was a long segment of various stepped filmed.
Bought in Nov 2022, Started trying to figure the handle upgrade, got side tracked as I didn't have all the tools and Penn released the parts to resolve the freespool issue. Then finally finished the handle before my July trip. All in all, a decent step up from the Fathom 40nld2 for more drag.
    All the parts I used
    Penn Fathom 60nld2 amzn.to/3sz4ipq
    VSW handlw and arm www.mysticparts.com/PennParts...
    2-56 threading tool amzn.to/469CiGx
    Adjustable tool amzn.to/3MHjDv5
3727A Hillman Stainless Steel Screws from Ace Hardware for holding the 2spd mechanism

    Great video. Great detail.
I'm a fan of and fish Penn reels.
I use the Penn Int 16 VISX for my 100# night jigging. Biggest fish on it BFT 245#
    July2021.
I also use the Fathom 40 2 speed (Gen 1) . It has 100# braid but I fish it like 80# (20-25# drag) Big YT dropper loop, big YT yoyoing and night BFT jigging. Biggest fish on it is 135# BFT. I installed a Tiburon power handle on it and am very happy with it.

I have the original Fathom 60 2 speed lever drag. We were catching school size at night, nothing bigger than 60 pounds, hopefully this year I can put my reel to the test with a bigger size tuna.

It’s a solid reel. I used a gen 1 60ld2 for a season. Convenient having the tuck away lugs. Good size. I believe line cap is exactly like a VISX16

Solid video and an amazing break down! I definitely want to buy a 12visx and try that out for night time. A friend used one and did amazing. I used a 16visx for a 80lb BFT.

Good video. Love the engineering process. Personally use a VISX 20 for nigh time heavy knife jigs & sinker bombs and a Talica 25 for daytime sinker bait rigs & heavy flat-falls (and back up to the VISX 20)

Thanks Tyler, greatly appreciate the feedback 🤙 I’m with you on that, gave it two shots with this reel and went back to my VISX20, feels more confident in my hands if or when I hookup. I use VISX16 for day time sinker but does just as well at night jigging. I just added a 30 this season, but not sure when I’ll put it to use.

@@Seastheday88 you got it! A 30 is no joke of a reel & looks like you are covered for anything within a 5-7 day drive from San Diego for sure. Unless you are regularly sending flyers out the back on a kite a 16-20-30 is handling it all just fine. Awesome setups! I enjoy your videos a lot, keep up the good work.

Is there a significant difference in a 40 vs 60 fathom? Or are they really the same just more line capacity on the 60?

    • @Seastheday88
      @Seastheday88  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

You will get a larger diameter on the 60n, which gives you larger size spool for more capacity and larger drag disk and plates for 10lb more drag on 60n. Penn adjusted the gear ratio between the two giving the 60n and lower low gear.
