Great video! So sad to be losing such a high percentage of the population though. We visited Portland for the first time in 2021 and honestly didn't stay too long. We definitely saw a lot of the same things you mentioned. It's such a beautiful state though and the coastlines of that region are unreal!
I love Portland. I love living here. But i dont wanna ignore the issues. We need affordable housing, and we need a nationwide approach to solving the causes of homelessness. So many times its one unexpected emergency in someone's life that makes them homeless, and that should never happen in a country as rich as America. Moreover, these things are nationwide problems and must be addressed as such, and it tends to get the worst in cities where people are most concentrated. If we can treat addiction as the real medical issue that it is, i think we can also help so many people.
Yeah sadly the ‘issues’ with portland are present in every American city. And in portland they’re only bad in the downtown area of portland, which is the same as every other single downtown area of every major US city. I’ve lived in LA and grew up next to NYC. Both are way worse than portland. Also portland has way more affordable housing than LA or NYC too. Plus unlike LA they are constantly building new housing structures that add housing to the market.
I just moved out of there September 2023. Lived there 9 years. The reasons I left was the high cost of living (you have to be making at least 75k annually to even enjoy the city regularly cause rent is so high), super far left view point that is rampant there and the frequency of crime (vehicle and homicide) that made me want to move. So I did, and I don't regret it. Oh yeah, and also the cold rainy gloomy days, which will be commencing now.
