So Cris announced that you dont have a P.O. Box anymore. We had a box ready to go out and its just sitting here. How do we send your box. My wife and I love both of you and we have been sending things for years. 😢we are so sad.
Hey Jay, new subscriber here. Really enjoy your roadside/abandoned videos. Surprised to find out that you were Hoosier born like myself (younger me spent time in Springport, In which is about 10 min from Spiceland). Teenage years was spent in Lee County, FL before moving back to central Indiana. If you get back to Indiana I'd love to buy you and your wife dinner (I'm the proprietor of Pizza King of Elwood). Keep up the great work my friend.
Right? I’ve never even been to Florida, but I love these videos. They’re so peaceful, and I just love hearing about all these places time has seem to have forgotten.
I lived in Gainesville and I had a friend who lived in Starke. I used to pass through Waldo to get to her house! I always made sure I was doing the speed limit. One time it was a holiday and the cop was waiting for people to go faster than 15 mph, near a school. School was out but the light was still flashing! I was so glad when I heard they stopped them from passing out so many tickets!!
Tampa Jay, So glad you are back to doing your normal videos. Loved this one as I have been to Waldo many times, I live in Alachua, north of Gainesville & west of Waldo. That flea market is huge & packed with vendors & buyers on the weekend. Maybe you could revisit there & make a video?
i go to that Flea Market all the time, and the Antique store as well, buying the greatest priced stuff i personally have ever seen, i come away with something EVRY TIME. ..AND..also i live 25 minutes away here in Gainesville Florida, and it is really easy for me to pick up and go on the week ends, and to that Antique Mall you were in is supposedly HAUNTED..did you feel any thing. i also with a heavy heart would like to dedicate this video to my Girlfriends mother who passed away today, your intro music was very sad sounding and brought me to tears, i will always remember this video on the day i got the call, thank you for you visit to my area .
Thanks Jay for another great vid and adventure. Waldo may be getting what it deserves with the speed traps from the past... but that type of stuff is better left to higher powers :) Have a great one
Hey Tampa Jay. 👋You know your stuff, I was just about to make a comment on how this area is notorious for speed traps,so look out ! 😅Thank you for showing us more of the town. Drive safely. 👍
the headstone of the little girls at 42:13 : one was born in 1876, the other in 1867. your vlogs are always good; glad to see the off the beaten path segments!
that two story building at 5:50 was an old bank that was for sale a while back. My wife worked in Hawthorne and we had actually considered buying it and converting it to a single family home. It didnt work out for us but we still love the town.
When we lived in Ocala from 1979-1987 we drove through Waldo many times heading to family gatherings in Jacksonville. We never stopped and explored, not even the Flea Market. Thankfully we never got a speeding ticket. Between Waldo and Starke there was a place I always wanted to stop and take a picture of but never did. It was a motel that had a sign that read Motel and Taxidermy. That always sounded like a rather risky place to stay!
How sad that the train station is no longer running! I read since 2004. In 1985 I was a safety patrol and during the summer we went on the amtrak train to Washington D.C. to tour the area. It was so exciting and I went in that old closed station and got this candy shaped like tropical fruits with powdered candy inside! We met right there at that station and boarded the Amtrak and I recall going to the restroom and when I flushed the toilet, I saw the bottom of the hole open and saw the railroad ties below! I will never forget that unexpected surprise!! First time I road a train somewhere. Sad to see such an exciting and once busy place long ago closed down. The memories remain.
Thank you for sharing this video! My aunt and uncle lived near Waldo fla in a place called Hampton just outside of Starke in the late 70s and early 80s. They used to take us to the flea market whenever we visited there. We traveled alot on US 301 in those days. There was a drive in theater between Starke and Waldo, still in operation on 301.
I grew up in Gainesville (still here) and going through Waldo (to the Waldo Flea Market) every weekend with my dad is embedded in my childhood. I remember taking one of our family members to the Amtrak station there because they were on their way to Miami in the mid 90s. So many memories! I remember when that town was actually thriving with Feed stores and boiled peanut and fruit stands. Also...you were THAT close to the original Sonny's BBQ. It's on Waldo Road in Gainesville! Next time!
I used to stop at that former Hardee's in Waldo all the time when I would either go to the Flea Market or on my way to Jacksonville &/or Georgia (I live in Gainesville). It was always my go-to on Christmas morning when headed to see my family in Savannah. It closed in either 2015 or 2016. I'd then stop sometimes at the one in Starke (rhymes with Park). I remember the old speed trap billboards as well when I first moved down here from GA. I was waiting to see if you would have headed into Gainesville, as the original Sonny's BBQ location is on Waldo Road (FL-24), past the Gainesville Airport a bit on the right. Maybe next time.
Waldo was a nice looking abandoned town and I know a lot places like this that have speed traps but beware of speed traps in ghost towns that you don't get stopped by the Ghost Police but have a wonderful week and Thank You Tampa Jay. ☕👻🇺🇲
Hi Tampa, I've been watching your vids since just before halloween. It's nice to see you back, thx fir given a brit a little taster of florida, keep safe, you & cris 😊
I remember years ago, AAA would route people around Waldo to avoid those speed traps. They used to really target out of state drivers. Think that's how they kept their economy going from all those fines. Thanks, Jay! Some beautiful scenery!
Hi Jay. Glad you're back to exploring Old Florida. I wonder if that old brick building with the blue trim in Waldo was once a bank. Wish you had gotten a closer look inside.
Another Nice video. I would go to the waldo flea market every other weekend. Last time i went i found someone selling an original poster from from the Ringling brothers circus in Venice.
Evening Tampa Jay nice to see you back again after Halloween 🎃 great video I guess there's much ahead love from Michelle over here in Nottingham in England ♥️ ❤️ 😘 💖 💕 💙 😊😅😂😮
Once visited U of FL Univ Library years ago; recall an ice cream - snack store in town which featured old black-white 1950-60's photos of Gainesville on its walls. Football photos included stainless-steel sleeper train parked in town (probably chartered since not much availability of hotel space in those days). By the time Amtrak inter-city passenger train service was formed, train tracks into Gainesville were abandoned and - or torn up; Waldo, FL was (and from your video it appears still is) the nearest passenger train stop to or from Univ of Florida. Observation: the above may have been a method to create a great demand for roadway expansion near the main campus of the University of Florida which included removal of rail tracks and bridges.
Great video and so much included that is so interesting. I believe the owner of Annie's was killed in a car wreck near Oklawaha a while back. These old towns are special for memories of days long ago. Also during the 1800s, so many babies and children died because of different diseases. Sad times for the families that lost their young children. Thank you Tampa Jay for this video
@TampaJay I know you lived here and we always wish to see you around. Let us know when you plan to come back and hope we can meet. After all, I was born on Halloween in 1941. What a combo. Hope we can see you one day.
i ve been searching for someone who visit antique shop or pawn shop , but could nt find anybody , today your video popped up on my youtube screen , and u did all what i want , abandoned places visit , antique shop visit ,cemetery visit . that was perfect mate of my choice ❤❤ so i subscribe the channel . by the way , why did u take a risk to be at place where gators can attack .!? be careful bro .
34:17 that is a beautyberry shrub. The berries are very colorful and ripen around September. I've heard that the berries could be made into a jelly, but are not good raw. Birds like them though. Not sure about your part of Florida, but these are really common here in northeast Florida.
Oh man, wish you had looked at the expiration date on that dip in the fridge at Annie's so we'd know when the last people were there. I'd wager a cash bar (no pun) is one reason they closed. That is too tempting for a lot of bartenders. You can still find little bars in lots of places on the side of the road, but I'm not sure I'd go in, but I don't drink, so I wouldn't. Thanks for the tour!
I like the old towns. Waldo doesn't seem that bad if ya like quiet places. But I guess ya have to drive to find entertainment. Those tombstones are probably the only things left of the people from the 1800's? Thanks for the show TJ
I used to live off of County Road 225 there in Gainesville, so Waldo was an area where our post office was and I think when they lost their Hardee’s and their school system there they really went downhill as a town.
Ok, first, bro, I subscribed 2 days ago, and have binged almost all of your abandoned florida videos. The videos, such as this one marked "fundraiser" Does that simply mean you chose to monetize it, or is there something specific you have Marked it for? I was born and raised in the panhandle. I loved the videos you do in that area...well...Tally and east. Have you done any toward the west. I know it is a bit of a hike from Tampa if these are mostly day trips. Just wondering. I'm glad to support you either way. I don't think people realize how isolated florida was from many other places in the US because of all the Marshall's, mosquitoes, and malaria, of course, being a huge factor(speaking of your mosquito bites😮) did you know, from daytona all the way to Orlando used to be called Mosquito County? They changed it in the hopes people would move in.
Waldo Florida had a very large flea market But because of the speed trap, a lot of people didn’t go They used to hand out tickets like they were candy I guess it changed now. I don’t know. I haven’t been up that way.
Your radar detector would go off as you passed the city limits and change of speed sign. There would be a police car parked in front of the station and usually a cop in a chair out front. As you approached the bcop car lights came on and you'd be signaled to pull over. Yep, speed trap
Thank you for watching!
So Cris announced that you dont have a P.O. Box anymore. We had a box ready to go out and its just sitting here. How do we send your box. My wife and I love both of you and we have been sending things for years. 😢we are so sad.

Right? I’ve never even been to Florida, but I love these videos. They’re so peaceful, and I just love hearing about all these places time has seem to have forgotten.
Glad to see you back with a roadside attraction, abandoned places video. Love you TJ.😀

Well done and quite interesting. Thanks Jay.
Thanks Jay for another great vid and adventure. Waldo may be getting what it deserves with the speed traps from the past... but that type of stuff is better left to higher powers :) Have a great one

These are always a great palate cleanse from a horrible, hectic world
Enjoyed this very much, brought back old memories of going to the flea market over 20 years ago.

I love this video I was hoping you would have spent more time in Ocala though.

I drive by there everytime i go up to NC and back 301 is my primary route out of the state, always wondered what that was!
We live down the road from Annie's! ❤❤❤
That population graph was spooky. In 30 years Waldos population hasn't changed. nobody comes nobody leaves 😂
@TampaJay those old churches gave me Jeepers Creepers vibes.
My favorite breakfast item i like from Hardee's is the porkchop and gravy biscuit.
I like the old towns. Waldo doesn't seem that bad if ya like quiet places. But I guess ya have to drive to find entertainment. Those tombstones are probably the only things left of the people from the 1800's? Thanks for the show TJ
The old Florida roadside watering hole only survived when the term was DWI and not much was done about it.
Florida, old Florida is my family's world.
Nice job I been thru waldo many a time seen some cops some people get tickets and most follows the speed limits never stopped to check it out thanks
I used to live off of County Road 225 there in Gainesville, so Waldo was an area where our post office was and I think when they lost their Hardee’s and their school system there they really went downhill as a town.

Webbs Antique Mall is closing in April for good in Lake City, should go before they close.
Much ahead in this strange world
👍👍👍
another great video. just a note: bivouacked sounds like "biv" + "oo" + "akt"
Florida is the only state where you still have constant buay traffic even in an abandoned town.
I watched so many haunted house videos of yours that I forgot you did abandoned places
thanks for watching
Waldo Florida had a very large flea market
But because of the speed trap, a lot of people didn’t go
They used to hand out tickets like they were candy

I was from Gainesville Florida 😅 we all drove carefully had it was true it was a speed trap.😂😂😂😂😂😂
TAMPA JAY YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO SILVER BULLET LAWTEY, FL POLICE CHIEF YOU'LL BE SURPRISED AT WHAT YOU'LL FIND OUT
I always warned people not to speed through Waldo.
I think I saw that dog somewhere from poor that's a hornet doll ghost
I received a speeding ticket in Waldo in the early 90s; the cop was the biggest a$$munch I ever met
