REO Speedwagon (REO pronounced as individual letters) was a light motor truck first produced in 1915, and manufactured up until the 1950s. The R.E.O. Speedwagon was the ancestor of the pickup truck, and the letters R.E.O. come from Ransom E. Olds who designed the truck, and was the founder of Oldsmobile.

One thing I'd like to point out. I'm an 80's kid and I love the music to this day, but we were still trying to figure out how to put together music videos. 😜
You said it. Most of them were something the director of the video threw together, because most had no interest in doing them. Of course, that had to change, and did.
I'm 60 years old and have a son that was born the month before you. But I just love watching the youngsters reacting to the music I loved from the seventies and eighties.
REO Speedwagon was one of the first rock bands to score big with power ballads in the '80s. They had the good fortune of being one of the hottest bands in America when MTV launched on August 1, 1981, so the network played their videos, even though they were low-budget affairs. With director Bruce Gowers, they shot four videos in one day, including the clip for one of their greatest songs "Keep On Loving You," which lead singer Kevin Cronin said "made us look like even bigger dorks than we were." 😅

REO Speedwagon are from Champaign, Illinois. I saw REO live in concert March 22, 2024. These guys rocked the house. REO is one of those bands who sound better live than on the record. If REO comes to your area, please make plans to go. You'll have a great time. When most groups disbanded, or stopped touring altogether, REO Speedwagon never stopped touring. They have been going hard at it for 50 years or more, year after year. Kevin Cronin is the lead singer, and he will be 73 years old in October. He still sounds good and his guitar playing is still on point. They are currently on tour with Train, when I saw them they were touring with Rick Springfield who also rocked the house as well. One of the best concerts I've been to. Their lead guitar player the late great Gary Richrath is by far the best guitar player out of all the rest, who has never gotten the credit or recognition which he deserves. Kevin Cronin, when he sings, his proper enunciation of his words when he sings is fantastic (mind blowing to most), (listen to Roll With The Changes and you'll hear what I'm talking about). Which makes him such a great singer. Do check out Roll With The Changes (a great driving down the road song), Keep On Loving You (a number 1 song on the charts, also Can't Fight This Feeling reached number 1 on the charts as well), Take It On The Run, Time For Me To Fly, One Lonely Night, Don't Let Him Go, That Ain't Love, Keep Pushin', Ridin' The Storm Out (written by Gary Richrath after they were snowed in during a snow storm in Colorado after a show), Golden Country, Live Every Moment, Variety Tonight, In Your Letter, Here With Me, Back On The Road Again (Bassist Bruce Hall wrote this song and does the lead vocals on this song). The list of REO Speedwagon songs is deep. Ride the storm out with REO, more songs for you to add to your playlist (GAURANTEED).
REO Speedwagan's "Keep On Loving You" is an amazing #1 hit power ballad featured in numerous films, beginning with the 1982 coming-of-age comedy movie "The Last American Virgin." The song fits so well with the plot/context of this movie.

Not all live stuff is up to snuff...depending on the band ,the talent ,the decade, and the toll of constant touring and partying. I've been to many many shows of THE GREATS and believe some ,disappointing.
I got to hear them about 10 years ago. The lead singer's voice is just as clear and beautiful as it was ever was. And the best part was the audience sang every song with them.
The single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and held the top spot for three consecutive weeks from March 9 to March 23, 1985. It was the group's second and last number-one hit on the U.S. charts (the first being 1980's "Keep on Loving You." The group is phenomenal.

I grew up in Paris, IL and this small little band played at our fair. That small little band was REO Speedwagon. It was before they became famous and I remember my best friend and I were amazed and said "those guys will definitely be famous one day".
I saw them for the last time at a concert on the Navy base in Va Beach. I remember this so well. They were singing this song and beach balls were being tossed around. One made it to Kevin, the lead singer and he pointed directly at me, toss the ball to me and I was in heaven!! 18 years later I STILL have that ball. I think I have seen. REO 5 times in concert
Really love this band! REO Speedwagon ( the REO is said as individual letters not one word) was formed in Champaign, IL in 1967. The have a lot of great songs through the 70's and 80's. "Ridin' the Storm Out", "Keep Pushin'", "Roll With the Changes", "Time for Me to Fly", "Take It on the Run", "In My Dreams", "Don't Let Him Go", "That Ain't Love", and "Here with Me" are a few. I don't usually remember the names of albums, but their 7th album released in 1978 is one I always remember for it's wacky title: You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish. The cover art is a large fish with a tuning fork stuck in it's open mouth. Apparently the band wanted a title that would match the "out of the box" and stylistically diverse songs on the album.
Saw these guys live, finally, a while back. Huge sound live and one of those bands you know all of the songs' words without really thinking about it. Lot of my music comes from a couple of my aunts that weren't shockingly older than me and friends whose older sisters who had sizable music collections. REO has a ton of really great songs.
I have a special place in my heart for REO. In 1971 they were just starting to go regional and my HS hired them for the Homecoming dance (my brother did their lighting). A few years later they were bigger and I saw them at my University (1975 IIRC). A few more years and they were huge and I saw them headlining Summerfest in Milwaukee. We kind of grew up together.
I love that song. However, there are plenty of other awesome 80s rock ballads. One that I'd prefer over "Sister Christian" would be "Still Loving You" by Scorpions. Another one that comes to mind is "Alone Again" by Dokken. "Alone" by Heart is beautiful, too. Then there's probably my favorite of all..."The Search is Over" by Survivor (1984). All really awesome songs.
“Golden Country”, “Riding the Storm Out”, “Being Kind Can Hurt Someone Sometimes”, and “Roll With the Changes”, are just a few of their classics! The late Gary Richrath was an amazing guitarist. You must hear his solos on “Golden Country”. Link below. th-cam.com/video/HR8CnXn8LY0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7yUdBQCkVKttY10M
I knew Gary Richrath from 1965 in Peoria, IL when he was a member of the Suburban 9 to 5. When I was a student at Eastern Illinois University in 1970 - 1974 I would drive up to Champaign to see REO Speedwagon at Chances R, a college bar. When the band released their first album, with Terry Luttrell on lead vocals, Circus Magazine gave it a full 5 star rating, stating " Play it 'tiĺ the grooves wear out". When REO Two came out, with Kevin Cronin on vocals, every song was great. I still don't know why the album wasn't a smash hit. Kevin left and the third album, Lost in a Dream, had Michael Murphy on lead vocals. "Ridin' the Storm Out" was released, but wasn't a hit. Michael left and Kevin returned. Only with the release of their live double album, You Get What You Play For, after endless touring, did the band achieve real success. I grew to resent Kevin Cronin because he took the hard rock edge off of REO and pushed the band into the ballad era. I now recognize that the radio format dictated the need, as the ladies love of ballads drove sales and hits. Ultimately, Kevin's direction was correct, but Gary slipped in as many hard edges as he could. If you want to hear the best of Gary and REO, listen to REO TWO, and the live album. Especially the song "Golden Country".
R-E-O = REO Speedwagon - seen them live a couple of times and they are just as great live! They became the "Kings" of the Rock Ballad in the 80's, and MANY bands tried to copy them. Along with Journey, these two bands may have had something to do with the burst of teenage pregnancies in the 80's...haha. Yes, he is from America. He started as a folk type of singer. When Kevin Cronan was brought in, Gary Richrath, the guitarist, and he had to blend two styles. Gary was an incredible hard rock guitarist. REO was transformed. Absolutely frickin' wonderful.
I grew up with this music, but I mostly listened on the radio, so on a lot of reactions, including this one, this is the first time I've seen the video.
R.E.O has so many great hits. Journey and R.E.O. were my favorite bands for some time. I wore out several Albums of theirs. Kevin Cronin has a lovely voice.
REO Speedwagon was my very first concert and were a different band from when this song was released. Oh and the band Angel opened for them back in 1978. Anyway you should react to the Angel song called "The Fortune". Quite the journey of a song.
Check out REO’s live version of “Like You Do”. Then go down their rabbit hole for “Time For Me to Fly”, “Blazin’ Your Own Trail Again”, “Take It on the Run”, “Keep On Loving You”, “Lucky For You”, “Tough Guys” and more
Yes, yes, yes!! My favorite all-time from REO is Like You Do, even though it never made the charts. Saw them in concert many many times, having grown up in IL. Went to church with the keyboard player’s family.
Oh, yeah, and the song you were thinking about was “Jessie’s Girl” from Rick Springfield. Another guitar singer/song writer musician who played in a movie “Hard to Hold” in the 80’s.
Thats a long time to finally go for it. You two probably pulled your hairs out waiting that long. Congrats on not killing each other . My Captian's hat is off for you two.
Nothing like this sound for me to revisit my 80s teenage self aaah. Lots of angst and crushes and power ballads! And yes lots of bad hair days LOTS and music videos that didnt make sense but we loved them and they were new!
REO still tours. I've seen them in Wes Palm Beach probably 5 times over the years at our amphitheater with everybody from Poison, to Kiss, to Styx. Great summertime tradition to go see a bunch of 70's and 80's bands playing together.

One of my favorite groups. Kevin Cronin has such a great voice. So many incredible songs. Time For Me To Fly. Roll With The Changes. Blazin Your Own Trail Again. Great in concert.
Great band. One of those bands that were part of the Arena Rock groups from the 70's and into the mid 80's. This included bands like Journey, Foreigner, Styx and others. Their sound was classic rock n roll. They played incredibly live and sounded great without all of the technology. R.E.O Speedwagon had a lot of hits - "Take it on the Run", "Keep on Loving You", "Roll with the Changes", "Back on the Road Again" and more. Keep going down this rabbit hole.
Back in the day it was all about the music and the words and not looks. While some artists were nice to look at we got the feelings from what they were saying to us. It was talent that only a certain few had.
R - E - O Speedwagon was so much fun - they had some great songs. I wrote a good review of them for a music magazine & got 2 responses - one was a guy who said he never heard of anyone who liked them, and the other was an invitation to join their mailing list. They sold millions of albums.
My absolute favorite band from my high-school days, and I still love 'em 40 years later! And you think this video is weird, check out the one they did for I Do' Wanna Know. 😂
And I just want to say, though REO Speedwagon made their songs more user friendly and became very popular, they definitely pay those dues and deserved to make it.
Saw REO in a bar in a small college town, Macomb, IL, right before they hit the big time. What amazing talent and I consider myself lucky to have witnessed music history.
I love REO Speedwagon!! My best friend and I would listen to this album non-stop! This was her fav band in the world. When I hear their songs it brings back some great and some sad memories. She was in the 12th grade and I was in the 11th grade and we were like sisters and had grown up together. She was hit and killed by a drunk driver in April 1982 on her prom night. A big part of my heart is in heaven. Thanks BP!!
That is tragic. Im sorry to hear that. I know what it feels like . My best friend died last year, we were best friends ever since grade school in 1969.
R E O (the letters said individually) Speedwagon... the music of my youth! This is mine and my husband's song!! We were really good friends for several years before he risked our friendship and kissed me one night... Nov 5, 1997. This August 28th, we will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!! THIS is the 80's!!! I just went to my 40-year high school reunion this past Saturday. If you want some great music from the 80's to check out, they put the list that was given to the DJ on Spotify!! "LHS Class of 84" is the playlist... 61 songs!! REO Speedwagon is on it too!!
R.E.O. Speedwagon. They are the band that you can sing the loudest to, good or bad, sing along with that song!! I'm singing loud and proud with my pretend microphone 🎤 😂 I had to close my eyes so I wouldn't see that crazy video. I love your reaction!! The hair 😂😂😂
When I first heard it as a senior in high school it made me think of a girl I had a crush on. Now that I’m a father of 4 I think it is a band that realizes that they miss their kid’s life too much as they were touring. Great band and great song. Love your channel.
Not just 80s love. They started in late 60s and we loved them in the 70s. The 70s taught the young 80s hair bands how to do it. 70s had the hair long before.
They were never a hair band, just basic hard rock until the mandate that all metal bands must have a ballad. This is theirs, and it was crazy popular. "Riding the Storm Out" is more their wheelhouse.
You absolutely cracked me up with your comments to us about pausing in the middle of the solo.....we give you such a hard time.....we love you....we really do....but we are like a grandmother who never hesitates to give out criticism.....
They named the band REO Speedwagon, from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck designed by Ransom Eli Olds. My favorite R E O Speedwagon songs are Time For Me To Fly ( th-cam.com/video/54OtWleMQeQ/w-d-xo.html this version is my favorite besides the studio version), Riding The Storm Out, Keep On Loving You, and Roll With The Changes. They are a rock band who have enjoyed success over the decades since their beginning back in the 60's. As far as the video goes, it was the early days of MTV and everyone was just figuring stuff out. The weirder the better (it seemed at times). If you want to see weird, react to Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, it was so weird it actually won video of the year lol (along with 8 other awards at the MTV music awards for that year).
I live in North central Wisconsin. Growing up, our county fair had REO Speedwagon play every year. I remember going and seeing them every year growing up. I'm 46 now and still ❤ REO 🤘🤘
I think this style of cut is shaggy like the character in Scooby-Doo. Look at him and see why the character has that name. Keep on loving you is one of their song usually used in movies. They are super band still touring. I have watched them performing twice in the 80's. The second time the singer said when he sang this one years early, he couldn't hear his own voice because the crowd was singing along the song.
This song bring me back to adolescence, listening to this jam & pumping yourself up to ask out that girl in math class that you've been crushing on all year!
Hey BP, it's NOT "Reo” Speedwagon, It's “R.-E.-O.” Speedwagon, or just R.E.O. The BAND was named after the forerunner of the PICKUP TRUCK, “1915 REO SPEED WAGON” WIKIPEDIA: 1915 REO Speedwagon = The REO Speed Wagon (alternatively Reo Speedwagon) was a light motor truck model manufactured by REO Motor Car Company. It is an ancestor of the pickup truck. First introduced in 1915, production continued through at least 1953, and made REO (the initials of its founder, Ransom Eli Olds) one of the better-known manufacturers of commercial vehicles in America prior to World War II.

A few years later they were bigger and I saw them at my University (1975 IIRC). A few more years and they were huge and I saw them headlining Summerfest in Milwaukee. We kind of grew up together.
This album was on repeat my entire middle school days. One of the best of all time.
Ridin the Storm Out is one of my favorite REO songs. Huge banger.
Gary Richrath is one of my favorite guitarists. Great song, great band.
Gary looks so young here....haha
He's missed. He was one hell of a guitartist.
We were the first generation to make music videos, a BIG learning curve! Just listen to the music, R.E.O.!
The best rock ballad of the eighties: Sister Christian by Nightranger. You'll love it, I promise!
Facts!
I second this one!! This is an awesome song!
Agree, Night Ranger was as talented as any band and while they had several hits to me they always seemed to be underrated/appreciated.
@@rebeccacurtis6680Klaus has an amazing voice, still loving you is a beautiful song. All those ballads are great, but scorpions killed it
“Golden Country”, “Riding the Storm Out”, “Being Kind Can Hurt Someone Sometimes”, and “Roll With the Changes”, are just a few of their classics! The late Gary Richrath was an amazing guitarist. You must hear his solos on “Golden Country”. Link below.

I use to sing this song every day walking home from school grade 9. 80’s were the best of times
Oh man Chances R! Gargled more than a few barley pops in there back in the day LOL
REO Speedwagon is performing this Fourth of July with a bunch of bands. They’re still doing it.
I love this song, definitely playlist material ❤
You probably heard this on TV. It's played on the Tums commercials. These guys were the sh.t. They were a hit machine. 🤟
Its an Old Truck manufacturer. Pronounced R..E...O...speedwagon Peg. Nice pick....great song and react man !☘️
Saw them in the 80's. Fantastic group and this is the first time I've ever seen the video. My all-time favorite group ever!
Champaign Illinois’ finest! My uncle used to room with a couple of these guys when he got back from Vietnam. An incredibly underrated band!
R.E.O has so many great hits. Journey and R.E.O. were my favorite bands for some time. I wore out several Albums of theirs. Kevin Cronin has a lovely voice.
Kevin Cronin said about his hair was 'do was more of a 'mull-fro'...equal parts mullet and Afro" Yes, He's American LOL
@@margaretschorfheide5952 that’s terrific! I saw them at Jones Beach in NY the summer b4 Covid - they opened for Chicago. Great summer night !!!
Oh, yeah, and the song you were thinking about was “Jessie’s Girl” from Rick Springfield. Another guitar singer/song writer musician who played in a movie “Hard to Hold” in the 80’s.
I always loved Ridin the Storm Out
❤❤❤ This song is what had me and my husband finally go for it!!!! We just celebrated our 25th Anniversary a couple weeks ago!🎉🎉🎉
Mine too we made it 38n 8 months before I lost him
@@BrendaTovo-ek8el I love to see couples last. Yet I'm sorry for your lost.🤗🤗💞💞❤️❤️
Thats a long time to finally go for it. You two probably pulled your hairs out waiting that long. Congrats on not killing each other . My Captian's hat is off for you two.
Kevin Cronin, singer. "Time for me to Fly" Reo Speedwagon
My favorite song of theirs
I saw R.E.O. Speedwagon 8 times in consert...love that band
REO Speedwagon is from Champaign, Illinois. They started the band while in the University in Champaign/Urbana around 1970.
Nothing like this sound for me to revisit my 80s teenage self aaah. Lots of angst and crushes and power ballads!
And yes lots of bad hair days LOTS and music videos that didnt make sense but we loved them and they were new!
REO Was Ransom E. Olds. An early American automotive inventor/manufacturer. The REO Speedwagon was one of his vehicles. He further founded Oldsmobile.
You have killed me over the hair🤣🤣🤣REO was BIG back in the day. Lots of great songs to dig into.
Yep I love 70’s and 80’s music. I loved ice skating to REO, especially the love ballads with my crush. Brings back so many good memories
REO still tours. I've seen them in Wes Palm Beach probably 5 times over the years at our amphitheater with everybody from Poison, to Kiss, to Styx. Great summertime tradition to go see a bunch of 70's and 80's bands playing together.
please do more REO Speedwagon they have so many great songs you should do music man take it on the run time for me to fly don't let him go
It was a song I loved as a child. Of course, I still love it now.
Wikipedia-They named the band REO Speedwagon, from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck designed by Ransom Eli Olds. Doughty had seen the name written on the blackboard when he walked into his History of Transportation class on the first day they had decided to look for a name. Rather than pronouncing REO as a single word as the motor company did ("REE
Their album Hi Infidelity was a staple of my graduating year. Still one of my favorite bands even though I didn't get to see them live until 2017...
Great reaction! I'm a 68 year old female. I remember this song back in the day. Good song but not one of my favorites. You had me laughing all the way through this! Thanks for the smiles!
Gary Richrath on the guitar solid way underrated
One of my favorite groups. Kevin Cronin has such a great voice. So many incredible songs.
Time For Me To Fly.
Roll With The Changes.
Blazin Your Own Trail Again.
Great in concert.
You cracked me up with the commentary on the hair style! I was literally laughing as I watched.
Wow. thank you. Someone finally reacted to REO!!! It's R E O Speedwagon. lol
I saw them in concert 2 years ago- they sounded just as good!! Lead singer still hits the vocals!!
My very 1st concert was to see REO. March 1985.
They STILL sound this good!
I'm singing loud and proud with my pretend microphone 🎤 😂
I had to close my eyes so I wouldn't see that crazy video. I love your reaction!! The hair 😂😂😂
157 Riverside Avenue is my favorite. Pissed me off whenever I went to one of their concerts but didn't play it
I was OBSESSED with them as a teenager!!🥰♥️
When I first heard it as a senior in high school it made me think of a girl I had a crush on. Now that I’m a father of 4 I think it is a band that realizes that they miss their kid’s life too much as they were touring. Great band and great song. Love your channel.
They’re from very close to my hometown played in our high schools. I did get to see them in 1980 at Boulder Colorado Sunday number five.
I was at that show. Cool.
Welcome to the 80s hair band era
Not just 80s love. They started in late 60s and we loved them in the 70s. The 70s taught the young 80s hair bands how to do it. 70s had the hair long before.
They were never a hair band, just basic hard rock until the mandate that all metal bands must have a ballad. This is theirs, and it was crazy popular. "Riding the Storm Out" is more their wheelhouse.
Perms were popular in the 70s & 80s. Why are you so judgemental? Different times, different styles,
Music videos were a brand new thing,
It’s R.E.O. Speedwagon I’m 61 and loved the eighties music. They are from America. 🇺🇸 lol
You absolutely cracked me up with your comments to us about pausing in the middle of the solo.....we give you such a hard time.....we love you....we really do....but we are like a grandmother who never hesitates to give out criticism.....
That is an 80s era permed mullet. It’s a sight to behold.
This so awesome. In my mind, 50's, 60's 70's and 80's were for the most part the best. There still are some good one's out there. Love your reaction!
70’s and 80’s, Muscle Cars, Loud Stereos, and Cruising the streets. We had a great life as teenagers.
They started in 1975/75 and this song is in the 80’s. Hair bands had started so they were in the mullet phase.
Roll with the changes, one of the best uptempo songs in rock history.
If I remember correctly the band hated this video. They tried to stop it's release, but it was to late, lol. Great reaction!! 😊
It's R E O SpeedWagon, its a truck manufactured from R.E.O Motor Car Company.
I listened to this song over and over as a young teen.
Hey BP, it's NOT "Reo” Speedwagon, It's “R.-E.-O.” Speedwagon, or just R.E.O.
The BAND was named after the forerunner of the PICKUP TRUCK, “1915 REO SPEED WAGON”
WIKIPEDIA: 1915 REO Speedwagon =
The REO Speed Wagon (alternatively Reo Speedwagon) was a light motor truck model manufactured by REO Motor Car Company. It is an ancestor of the pickup truck. First introduced in 1915, production continued through at least 1953, and made REO (the initials of its founder, Ransom Eli Olds) one of the better-known manufacturers of commercial vehicles in America prior to World War II.
