Allen Kristensen ways always my favorite judge. No matter how many times he saw you play, he was always SO into your performance. A guy that just LOVES the activity.
This is not NEARLY high enough quality to convey the preciseness of what he heard. The level of judging on these guys is beyond what either of us probably understand. That small of a difference between being clean and dirty is not going to come through on a 480p TH-cam video.
It's also about a billion times easier to hear dirt on snares than anything else because of how high it is tuned most of the time. Same with flutes and intonation and tuning
Maybe it's the quality if the tape, but he heard dirt where it sounded clean. And there were 2 spots where there was a little dirt where he said nothing. His lack of comments about the difficulty and musicality lead me to believe he might not be aware if how difficult this show was, and go well performed it was. But hey, he's a fan.
Holy bass is all I'm gonna say. Snare drums got nailed pretty bad for a lot of dirt, didn't sound that way on the finals mp3 I have, but yeah, there's a lot there.
He judged a few shows we were at. He was the field judge at prelims in Marion. He stepped out of the pit as I come by and I knocked him down. He actually called me an a**hole on the tape. That night he was judging from the press box.
After seeing Vanguard on the field before this, they're not going to be able to compare when it comes to musicality. I agree with the rest of your statement though.
Now that judges aren't on the field anymore, we'll never hear an Allen tape like this again.
Yeah man. I love Allen tapes.
Number 1 bass drum has SWEET rolls! Yeah Baby.
He gets a little Debbie downer on the snares, but keep in mind that all of them were rookies.... That's pretty awesome
I guess they just needed another year to mature 🤷🏾♂️

damn that ending... so much hype
I love the hype that this line had.
"Bass 1 has SWEET rolls, Yeah baby" haha that's got to be the best compliment ever given by a judge.

as a timpani player from another corps, I really looked up to this timp player. Soo talented
He was eating the snares for breakfast.
That number one bass drum has some SWEET rolls. Oh yeah baby
Agree with Robert Harvey. The pit was playing delicate phrasing and subtle expression that you normally only get with a single player. Well done!
Wow, that must've been a really good timpanist.
i don't know something about when the judge says good evening cadets makes it sound awsome
7:52 "Those are great sleigh bells you have there." XD
I've never heard a judge comment on the timpani. This is cool.
To be fair, that timpani part was one of the coolest timpani parts I've ever heard.
It's also about a billion times easier to hear dirt on snares than anything else because of how high it is tuned most of the time. Same with flutes and intonation and tuning
that timpani player is fucking awesome
Way to go, Greg!
To recap: I love you tympani. I hate you snares!
Clovis CA represent!
thank you so. so. much

"Bass 1 has SWEET rolls, yeah baby!" Lol
i dig you guys!!!!!!
Allen during the closer. Snares🤮 basses😍
Holy bass is all I'm gonna say. Snare drums got nailed pretty bad for a lot of dirt, didn't sound that way on the finals mp3 I have, but yeah, there's a lot there.
Bass Drums that was hot!
so true. audio covers up alot of dirt and if you can hear dirt on a tape in reality it sounds so bad live
(in the creepiest voice possible) Those are great sleigh bells you have there...

2012's perc was the opposite of 2011's perc in terms of who got the compliments lol I just noticed that by comparing the two
7:40- Gets me every time.
Nice on the spawker quads! 0-O
Oh yeah timpani hahaha thi guys is something else!
"bass drums that was hot" yessss
He got cut from the 1990 cadets line
If i remember correctly...this year had an all rookie snareline. might be the reason for all the dirt comments toward the snares.
Yeah... and then 2013 came along!
After seeing Vanguard on the field before this, they're not going to be able to compare when it comes to musicality. I agree with the rest of your statement though.
Get it HB!
@XnathananX your welcome
As it should ALWAYS be.
So. much. hype. at the end
I wouldn't be surprised because I always considered to have the "melody" of the writing. Therefore, much more musical scrutiny.
timpani is so awesome in this
"OOOOooooOOOOooooo nice!!!!"
Great judge, wasnt he?
Hey, have you any idea how to obtain the Cadets' three finals judges tapes from 1987? I'd PAY to hear those!!!
literally all of them do, all the time
lol "yeah baby"
This judge is kinda tearing up the snares, lol.
Put the lawrence one up, Greg
Don't get mad at me if I dont know, but wasn't JJ Pipitone the percussion judge for finals?
Sleight Bells you have fans ;)
I thought so too....guess not...
9:52 lol
I broke this guys ankle in 1990 in Marion Ohio when he stepped in front of me .
YEA TIMPANI
I HEAR YA BASS DRUMS

not right there though! hahahahaha
*aware of, not aware if. Big fingers on small phone keyboard. ;-)
Exposure to error.
@8:23 judge jizzes in his pants
6:20
not all, 1 vet
Nose
They were all rookies
No vets.
all rookies
doesn't matter what corps... seems like the snares are always called out for dirt the most.
..except for the timpanist. lol
no. all lol
