The 3/8" spacer that is behind the crank gear I had to remove it with my new crank due to clearance issues with the timing cover and all of the gears were binding up. I guess with an aftermarket crank they don't need the spacer.
There's only 2 reasons I use silicone. If two gaskets touch. Like intake gasket and end seals. I put a small dab where they meet. And if I can't get a gasket. 80 gm cars were good for that. Came from factory with silicone.
Which gum did you put before putting the cover joined, I need to know the name of a good gum,I really have difficulties when putting front cover,after some time its will starts leaking
I used black rtv silicon only at the corners where gasket have a seam is not to much. The rest I spray the gasket with high tack gasket spray if you put silicone on the whole gasket it will push the gasket out and leak. Have a good day man
Hi Pete, really like your videos as I am doing some jobs on a similar Perkins 3 cyls engine. I got a question on the timing cover: would it be possible to remove the timing cover (i.e. in case I need to sleeve out the camshaft and/or changing the cover gasket) without splitting the tractor by taking out hood , radiator, / pumps / pulley Hoses? thx
I don’t think you can even get the pulley off the crankshaft. Without taking the front clip off the tractor and it would probably be less work. Once you have the front axle frame removed. The rad and everything comes with it. Then you have perfect access to the timing cover. Hope that helps thanks for watching
Does the front timing cover need to come off before the oil pan can come off? My AD3.152 is pulled out of my 254 MF, now I need to start tearing it down.
You can remove the timing cover first It doesn’t mater either way. You’ll have to change the oil pan gasket anyways you’re doing a full tear down. If you just want to change the timing cover gasket you can do that you just have to be careful with the oil pan gaskets when you remove the timing cover that the gasket doesn’t rip.

Actually before asking you what will happen am about to check the engine so when I uncouple the timing cover I see that all the gear has broken and the bolts are intact so I was wondering what might cause such this is second time plz help me out

Ever had one break the crankshaft?
I haven’t Seen a crank brake but they had a problem with caps coming loose on some of the 152.
Good to know is it a common problem or is it just occasional? My crank broke put in a new one during a full rebuild and got it running just today

What will happen if the big timing gear is not tite
The bolt could fall out and destroy timing gears so make sure it’s tight and the locking clip installed. You can never be too careful

Even the crankshaft gear broke as well as the Kim shaft broke into two and it affect the tapping valves
I watched most all Perkins videos I could find to get hints on the rear seal for the cam/ speed cover. Nothing around to watch.
